Chapter Fourteen

Shae’s P.O.V

As soon as Darien got home, he immediately called me and we spoke on the phone all night. He said he already missed me and just wanted to cuddle me forever and ever. He’s so sweet and I’m going to miss him these next few days. I’m going to be in New York, doing album promo, interviews, and showcasing my mom’s latest line. My mom had been making the clothes I’ve been wearing publicly and it’s a win for both of us. I get to look cute and she gets more exposure.

We had arrived in New York a few minutes ago and it was still a little chilly. It was June but it was still cold on the East Coast. I mean, I was wearing a sweater, jeans, and doc martens just to stay warm.

“Alright girly.” Adrienne smiled as we set our things down in my hotel. “You’ll be performing on the Today Show as well as doing an interview. Tomorrow, you have a meet and greet in central square; where you’ll be signing early release albums, posters, and taking pictures. After that, you have an MTV unplugged to do and you’ll be all set and back in sunny, warm California! Next month, you’re off to Boston, Chicago, and Miami.” Adrienne said and I sighed. Geez.

“Damn...busy schedule!” I yawned.

“Yes, and your homework and notes for the week are in your backpack. Mariel got everything ready for you and my new assistant; Maree will be here to help with whatever you need.” I smiled and thanked them both for everything. I can’t believe my album; Unmasked drops tomorrow! Eek!

“Wait, I have to do homework?” I whined.

“If we have homework then you do too,” One of my bandmates said. I jumped on his back happily.

“I missed you guys!” I said looking at my band. I’ve been caught up in school work and crap that I haven’t been working on music as much.

“We missed you too,” They all said. I hugged each of them before we had to head out.

“Alright, the car is here and we need to vamoose!” Adrienne clapped.

Darien’s P.O.V

All morning, I moped around while getting ready. I’m going to miss Shae so much this week. I wish I could’ve gone to New York with her. I sighed, reminiscing about last night. It was so amazing and man, we talked all night long and I’m exhausted. I slipped on some joggers, a tee, and my sneakers before running my hand through my damp hair. I grabbed my things and walked downstairs like a zombie.

“Morning mom,” I said kissing her cheek. I hugged her tightly.

“I don’t understand how you and your father’s breaths always smell like a mixture of mint, fruit, cinnamon, and chocolate.” She laughed before planting a big wet kiss on my cheek.

“You’re crazy darling,” Dad said, walking down the steps. We fist-bumped before he grabbed mom by the waist.

“See!” She said after dad kissed her lips.

I chuckled. “ toothpaste is just minty and I eat a fruit.” I shrugged. “The cinnamon and’re crazy,” I said laughing and dad nodded.

“Whatever and Hunny, why are you so tired?” She rubbed my cheek softly.

“Didn’t get much sleep” I yawned.

“Then get off the phone with Shae earlier!” Dad joked.

“I can’t, she’s addictive man.” I laughed. “Plus, I won’t see her for a few days.” I sighed dramatically.

“What’s wrong?” Mom asked.

“She’s in New York, promoting her album,” I said happily. I was so happy for her, I’m going to buy ten of them.

“Oh boohoo. No kissing for a week. You’ll survive.” Dad teased.

“That’s not all we do...” I said rolling my eyes playfully.

“That’s all I hear,” Mom drawled out cheekily.

“Just be safe son. I don’t need grandchildren. I could hook you up with some condoms anytime.” Dad added and I looked at him in horror.

“Oh god. Dad, we’re not even having sex...yet” I said honestly.

“Well, that explains why you’re in the shower a lot longer these days but when you do, I got the hookup.” He winked. Jesus, my parents are nuts.

“And that is my cue to head to school,” I cringed. I said bye and left. I hopped in my Rolls Royce Ghost. My parents recently got me this car and I loved it. I mean I go to the academy, you have to either be rich or have a scholarship to attend that school. I put on my music and checked my phone as it beeped, reminding me that I had a shoot today with Dior. Shit, I’m too tired for this.

I finally got to school and parked my car before getting out. I sighed dramatically and stretched my joints before walking over to my friends. I quickly felt arms wrap around me from behind and I tensed, untangling them.

“Babe. What’s that for?” Miranda said. What the fuck?

“Because I’m not your babe?” I said bluntly and confused.

“Oh? What is this? You disown me because your friends are around?” She said with a cruel smile.

“What are you doing?” I asked, with annoyance and slight anger.

“I know your secret.” She whispered darkly.

“What secret?” I asked, tilting my head to the side.

“Oh that you’re with Shaeleigh. Don’t even try to lie. She already tried that.” She spat. I growled and grabbed her arm ignoring the confused looks. I slammed her up against the sidewall. “Mmm...I love it rough, don’t you remember?”

“What the fuck are you talking about? Keep Shaeleigh’s name out of your mouth. We’re nothing.” I spat.

“You’re nothing? Then why are you so angry and defensive?” She asked with a devious smirk.

“What are you playing at?” I asked, pinching the bridge of my nose.

“I have no clue what you’re talking about.” She trailed off.

“Cut the fucking bullshit,” I spat growling.

“I want you, Darien!” She said coldly. “You’re supposed to be mine! Mine and mine only! What happened to us before?”

“That was the fucking past! I fucked you a few times because you’re fucking easy!” I said frustrated. “Get over yourself! I don’t want you.” She slapped me.

“Excuse me?”

“You heard me and that little slap to the face won’t do shit,” I growled. “Now stop trying to ruin stuff and get it through your head that I do not want you. Leave Shae alone, she doesn’t need your crazy ass attacking her. Leave me alone or else.” I spat. Anger was radiating off me and I couldn’t stay in school today. I let her go and walked off back to my car. Shae needs to just let us go public, this is getting ridiculous now.

Shae’s P.O.V

“I need a superhero to save me. I need someone to be there to hold me. I need a lover...a good guy because I always chase the criminals...” I sang. The crowd was going wild and I was in my zone. The thrill, the vibrations, the love-- it was all pumping through my veins like my own drug. I loved the love and attention and I put my all into this performance. I ran my hands down my body, softly, and gripped my skin-- pretending they were Darien’s. The sexual energy rubbing off me right now was so intense, the crowd felt it. I finished off the song and dropped to my knees singing out a loud tone. A guy tried to jump on stage but the security guard stopped him. I chuckled and blew him a kiss. “I love you all so much!” I whispered into the mic and they screamed.

“Give it up for Shaeleigh and her band!” The reporter said. I sat on the stools and they began to question me.

“Thank you for having me!” I beamed.

“You’re always welcomed here. And you were amazing!”

“Now, UnMasked-- if all the songs sound like that one you just sang, I’m definitely playing this every day!” She said and the crowd went wild.

“Well..they’re all mixed. I wanted it to be me. I’m not just one thing, I’m complex. But, I’m pretty sure everyone will love it.” I said smiling.

“Now, why did you name it UnMasked?”

“Well, as you know my background, I was basically unmasked! I dropped my shield and showed the world my real self. Each song embodies that. It’s just me showing the world who I am.” I smiled.

“I like you. You’re different and you just make things different... hard to explain but you’re cool.”

“Awe...shucks,” I said batting my lashes, causing everyone to laugh.

“Alright then. New music videos? What’s next?”

“Well...I have a few videos, some photoshoots, magazine,s and a very cool book deal!” I squealed. “Also, a few sponsors that you guys can look out for.” I winked before zipping my lips.

“Nice! And a book?”

“Yes, a book about me. A full indepth on my life and how I got here.” I squealed.

“Can’t wait!” She said genuinely. “Now, what everybody wants to know and it’s probably going to break some hearts but...are you single?” The crowd went wilder.

“Hmm...? Am I?” I asked, staring into the crowd. “So many handsome faces in the audience.” I said looking over and giggled as some people started jumping and going crazy.

" Are you?” The reporter raised a coy eyebrow.

“Maybe I am...maybe I’m not...I’m not sure.” We laughed.

“Rumors spiraled out after you and the newest model; Darien Parker, were seen at the awards together...hmm, what can you say about that?” I laughed. I got this.

“Well...we went together considering I had a broken leg and he’s a good friend. Who knows what could happen with that.” I winked.

“Oh alright.” She said cheekily. “But, would you date a fan?”

“Why not? People get so worked up about this and I think honestly it’s the best because fans are dedicated people. And in a relationship, you need a dedicated person. However, I can see the issues surrounding it but...I wouldn’t be opposed.” I smiled.

“Interesting! Well everyone, there you have it. it was nice having you here, Shae. UnMasked drops tonight at midnight and hits the stores in the morning. Make sure you get a copy!” She hollered.

“Whoo! Thanks for having me!” I said. We hugged and I signed my autographs and took some pictures with the fans.

Darien’s P.O.V

After driving around town for a while, I went to the gym to let off some steam. Man, I’m getting fed up with this secret relationship. Her career is booming and people are in love with her! Why can’t she let us just go public finally?! I’m sick and tired of lying to my friends about what I’m doing and who I’m doing it with. Being asses to girls because I keep turning them down and they don’t understand why. I just can’t take it and Miranda really pissed me off. I mean she’s threatening Shae and pulling shit on me-- nah, fuck that. But, sheesh! Not being able to have fun and do things like normal couples because someone might catch us is draining. Honestly, I feel like she’s ashamed to be with me or something. No one would go this long without at least telling their friends. For fucks sake, It’s been five fucking months.

I pulled out my phone and sent her a text. “Shae, I don’t know if I can deal with this secret relationship anymore. I’m lying to everybody, I’m being an ass to people, I can’t even enjoy my relationship that well because we’re always hiding...and I can’t deal with it anymore...we really need to talk.” <Darien> I hope she reads this soon and replies soon.

“I’ve told you my reasons. Please...I’ll call you later. I’m busy.” <Babygirl :)> I rolled my eyes annoyed and slammed my fist down, sending my next text before thinking.

“Alright then. I can’t fucking keep going on like this. You always shut me down whenever I bring this up. What’s more to do?! It’s always ‘my career this, my career that.’ You’ve been hitting it big for half a year! You’ve transitioned into your career beautifully! Miranda is fucking on to us and today, she tried it and I felt like just blurting everything out. I feel like you’re ashamed of this relationship and I honestly can’t deal with this. It’s a headache and it’s pissing me off...” <Darien> I angrily sent the message.

“What are you trying to say?” <Babygirl :)> She replied 2 minutes later.

“I think we should take a break...until you figure out what you want.” <Darien> I let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding. It hurt to do that but I couldn’t deal with it anymore. It’s stressing me out and I’m fed up. Sneaking around...lying. This is bad and annoying. I know that I just lost the best thing but...honestly, it’s up to her. If she really wants this, she’ll know what to do.
