Home Sweet Home

“Sarah, over here!” I saw Stacy waving to me as I picked up my luggage from baggage.

“Stacy!” I reached her and gave her a big hug. “Wow, you are definitely looking like a pregnant lady,” I said as I stepped back and she laughed. “Let’s go, I can’t wait to just rest for a couple of days.”

“The car is waiting for us and yes, I feel like a pregnant lady. Only two and a half months to go.” She said rubbing her hand over her stomach.

I grabbed my bags and wheeled them out to the car where Aaron grabbed them and put them in the trunk while Stacy and I climbed into the backseat.

I heard my phone receive a text message, but I left it alone. “How are you are Stacy? You are looking beautiful as ever.”

“I’m really good and I do not feel beautiful right now.”

“Oh come on, you have the perfect glow about you.”

“Thank you little sis. You look really good as well.”

Ding

“Thank you. I’ve never had so much fun, but I truly am exhausted.” I responded still ignoring my phone.

“I’m sure you are. Jake is working the next couple of days, so it will be pretty quiet around the house with just you and I there. I took off Monday, so we can spend some time together the next couple of days until I send you home on Tuesday morning.”

“He’s working on a Sunday?”

“Yes he is. Since the end of the month is nearing, he has to take care of some financial things, but should only be there for a few hours in the morning. He’ll join us for the afternoon and is planning on taking us out to dinner if that is OK with you.”

“Of course it is.”

Ding

“Please answer that Sarah. You don’t have to ignore it anymore,” Stacy said as my phone alerted me to another text.

“Sorry, I just didn’t want interrupt you.” I took my phone out of my purse and noticed I had three new texts. When I opened them up, they were all from Brad.

“Hey gorgeous!”

“I told you I’d contact you again.”

“Hope you made it home safely.”

“Who is Brad?” Stacy asked seeing his picture at the top of the messages.

“Ummm…just a guy I know.”

“Just a guy, huh?” she chuckled.

“Yeah, I met him in London one night.”

“And now he has your phone number?”

“Yes, he gave me his number and I gave him mine, but I never thought he would actually reach out to me.” I turned red in embarrassment.

“Hey, no judgment from me. How did you meet?”

“We were at a club and he came up to me while I was dancing. We danced and got to know each other a little bit.”

“Send him a message back; let him know you made it back home.” Stacy smirked and winked at me.

“Hey Brad, I made it to Chicago safely.”

“Hey! I wasn’t sure you’d respond to me. How was the rest of your trip?”

“It was great, but I’m glad to be back home.”

“Same here, but I’m glad I went.”

“Yeah, why is that?”

“Because I met someone while I was there.”

“You did, huh? What’s she or he like?”

“SHE is gorgeous, loves to dance, and is easy to talk to.”

“I see, well I hope you get to see her again.”

“Oh I plan to…maybe over winter break if not sooner.”

“That could maybe be arranged.”

“Good.”

“I have to run; we just pulled up to my sister’s place. Talk again?”

“I’ll call you later. Bye”

“Bye”

I smiled to myself as I put my phone away. I caught Stacy looking at me with a smile on her face as well. We got out of the car and up to their penthouse. I put my bags in the room I usually stay in and then came up and plopped myself on her couch. She sat on the chair and we spent the rest of the afternoon catching up and I told her all about my trip.

The next couple of days went too fast. I showed Stacy and Jake all the pictures I took; I talked to Brad each night and discovered that he was easy to talk to as well; worked on some of my assignment to wrap up the summer program and then was dropped off at the airport Tuesday morning to head back home. I gave Stacy a hug goodbye and went on my way.

Mom and Dad met me in Bismarck and we drove back to the house. We ate lunch when we got there and then I went to my room and took a nice long nap. I swear I slept through the rest of the week, because before I knew it, it was Sunday and time to drive back to school.

Classes resume on Tuesday, but I wanted to take a day to get unpacked and grab my books that I wasn’t able to get before now due to the trip. Yes, it was Labor Day, but the campus bookstore would be open for part of the day, which was enough time to get what I needed.

After I got my books and supplies, I returned to the dorm and noticed that my roommate, Jamie, finally arrived. I shared the room with her last year as well and it was good to see her again. We spent the afternoon getting her unpacked and catching up.

Tuesday morning, classes resumed. Hello sophomore year!

“Sarah, over here,” Nikki waved me over to sit next to her, Jodi and Bethany in class.

“Hey ladies,” I said and gave them all a hug. “Did you recuperate over the past week?”

“I tried,” Bethany replied.

“Me too, but I had too much energy and actually wanted to get back here,” Nikki answered and we all chuckled a little.

“Guess who I talked to after getting home?” Jodi piped in.

“Who?” I asked.

“Do you remember the guys we met in England that first night we were there?” We all nodded and I smiled. “Well, Jason, the guy I danced with, contacted me and we spent a lot of time on the phone. Why are you smiling Sarah?”

“Jason’s friend, Brad, reached out to me as well. We may meet up over winter break,” I replied. “Maybe we could both go to New York together?”

“That would be so awesome if we could,” Jodi replied.

Just then Mrs. Jennings walked in and handed out the syllabus for Music Theory III. We turned around in our seats and class got started.

This was another semester of class after class, such the life of a music major. Each semester, we probably take at least ten classes and barely get 15-18 credits. There are the music specific classes like theory, technique classes, primary instrument lessons, group performance like choir or orchestra; then there are the therapy specific classes like psychology, practicum; and then general education classes like math, English, science, etc.

Each semester we have to attend at least ten concerts and turn in the programs for one class. These concerts can be fellow student recitals or group performances. In addition to all of that, as part of practicum, we have to go to various places one to two times a week to provide a session to a group of clients.

Oh, don’t forget all the practicing that we have to do: primary instrument, piano, guitar, voice and whatever else you are learning as part of technique class. You almost need more than 24 hours in a day to get it all done.

I also work part-time for the music department as part of a work-study program. That doesn’t leave a lot of free time, but I do try to spend the weekends with friends if I don’t have a lot of studying or homework to do.

By mid-semester, Jodi and I finalized our plans to go to New York after the holidays to meet up with Jason and Brad. Now I don’t know if anything will really come of it, but I was ready to explore the possibility.

I finished the semester with all A’s and headed home for a few weeks to celebrate the holidays with my family. Mom, Dad and I were planning on going to Chicago for Christmas this year since Stacy and Jake just had a baby girl in November and didn’t want to travel too far. We arrived the day before Christmas Eve and were met by Aaron to take us to the penthouse.

“Mom, Dad, Sarah,” Stacy whispered as she greeted us at the door and gave us hugs. “Hope is sleeping in the living room, so please keep quiet.”

“Congratulations Stacy,” I said as I hugged her back. “You look really good. I can’t even tell you had a baby a month ago,” I chuckled.

“Thanks sis,” she gave me a small smile.

“How are you sweetie?” Mom asked Stacy.

“I’m OK, but haven’t been getting a lot of sleep.”

“Well we are here to help, so you will get plenty.”

“Thanks Mom.”

“Sam, Ryan, Sarah…it’s good to see you,” Jake greeted us as we walked into the living room. Stacy gave him a look to be quiet. “Sorry babe,” he whispered.

Too late, Hope woke up crying and Stacy walked over to her and picked her up and rocked her. “Shhhh, Mommy’s here.”

“Give her here,” Mom said as she took Hope from Stacy’s arms. Mom bounced her in her arms and rubbed her back and she quieted down almost immediately.

“She’s gorgeous Stace,” I said. “She looks a lot like you.” Stacy agreed and sat down on the couch inviting us all to join her.

We spent the evening catching up and taking turns holding the baby. She was so small, but had a set of lungs on her to keep anyone awake.

We celebrated Christmas together with Jake’s mom, sister and brother-in-law. It was good to see them again, since we last saw them at the wedding. Hope was definitely the star of this Christmas getting many, many gifts from all of us. Too bad she slept through the gift opening to Stacy’s frustration.

Mom and Dad agreed to watch Hope on New Year’s Eve, so I went out with Stacy, Jake, Lizzie, Todd and Jake’s friend, Jordan and his newest girlfriend, Tina for the evening. We celebrated late into the night and welcomed 2022 with a toast.

The next day, Mom and Dad went back home, while I headed off to New York City to meet Jodi. We were both set to arrive around the same time, so when I exited the plane and went to collect my bags, she was already there waiting for me.

We went outside and waited for about fifteen minutes for our ride. I was just about to call Brad, when I heard him shout my name as they pulled up in front of us. Both Brad and Jason got out of the car and took our bags, then came over to give us a hug.

“Hey gorgeous,” Brad said while hugging me. “I’m glad you made it.”

“I am too. It’s good to see you again,” I said stepping back. “Hey Jason,” I waved over to him. We got into the car and drove back to their apartment near NYU.

“How many live here?” Jodi asked as we entered the apartment.

“There are three of us, you remember Andy? He was with us in London also,” Brad answered.

I nodded, vaguely remembering him. He must have been the one dancing with Nikki. I was too focused on Brad, that I didn’t pay that much attention to the others.

“So where exactly are we staying?” Jodi asked.

“Ummm, we were hoping you’d stay right here with us,” Jason answered.

“Of course we are,” I said, nudging Jodi in the side.

“So we are obviously in the living room, there’s the dining room and kitchen,” Brad said pointing to the other rooms. “Over here is the bathroom we all share, over there is Andy’s room, this here is Jason’s, and mine is over here,” he led me to his room. The room was small, but comfortable. It had a double bed, a dresser with a TV set up on it and a closet. Brad set my bag next to the bed while I dropped my purse on the bed and looked around.

“Did you draw these?” I asked looking at some drawings hanging on the walls of various buildings and skylines.

“Yeah,” he said coming up behind me. “I’ve always been fascinated with architecture and used to design when I was younger, so I decided to become an architect and designer.”

“These are really good,” I said stopping at one of a house. “Is this your family’s house?” I asked turning to face Brad.

“It was,” he said looking down. “It was destroyed years ago in a tornado.”

“I’m sorry; I hope no one was hurt.”

“No, everyone was safe, but we lost nearly everything. I was about 12 or 13 and we had to rebuild. I think that’s when I really started designing when we got to help decide what we wanted in the new house.”

“At least something good came from it,” I said and smiled up at him. He nodded and returned my smile.

“Are you hungry? Do you want anything to drink?” he asked nervously.

“I’ll take a soda if you have one, or water is fine. I ate before I got on the plane, so I’m good for a while,” I answered him and followed him to the kitchen.

After grabbing a couple cans of soda, we sat on the couch talked more about his career goals and he asked me about mine. Jodi and Jason joined us for dinner and after Andy got home, we watched a movie.

It was getting late and I yawned while resting my head on Brad’s shoulder as the movie ended. “You getting tired?” he asked.

“I guess I am,” as I yawned again and he laughed.

“Come on,” he got up and held his hand out for me. I took it and followed him to his room, as my heartbeat started racing.

I’m not a virgin, but I have only been with one guy before, so this was a little awkward for me. I didn’t know if I was ready to take things all the way with Brad, but I also know I came all this way to New York to see where it could go.

“I’m going to use the restroom,” I said shyly and Brad chuckled at me.

I grabbed my toiletry bag and headed to the bathroom where I peed, washed my hands and brushed my teeth. I changed into a pair of pajamas and gathered up my things and returned to Brad’s room. He had already changed as was just wearing a pair of pajama pants.

“Like what you see?” he asked as he caught me staring at him.

I blushed and looked down. I set my things on my bag and as I stood back up, I came face to chest with Brad. He lifted my chin with his finger and looked from my eyes to my lips and back to my eyes. I slightly nodded my head and he pressed his lips to mine.

I melted into the kiss and he picked me up and carried me to the bed. He laid me down and climbed over me while kissing my lips, my chin, my neck and back up. I moaned as he hit my sweet spot below my ear. Next thing I know, he had removed my shirt and was kissing my breasts one by one and I arched my back for more.

One thing led to another and all our clothes were removed. He grabbed a condom from his drawer, put it on and climbed back over me. He leaned down and kissed me while entering me in one quick thrust. It felt amazing as he pushed himself in and out and I came almost immediately. As he continued, the feeling built yet again and as he found his release I came again.

He climbed off of me as we came down from our high and caught our breaths. He threw away the condom and I curled up against his side. He covered us up and I fell asleep in his arms. Even though it felt wonderful, it wasn’t everything I was hoping it would be. There was something missing.

The next few days were a blur of activity. Brad and Jason took us around New York to show us some of the sites including the Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bridge, the World Trade Center and Memorial, Time Square and more. We toured NYU and they showed the different buildings and what the school offered.

Every night Brad and I had fun in bed and he certainly knew what he was doing to please me each and every time. I allowed myself to enjoy it and live in the moment.

We went out the dinner and they surprised us with tickets to see “The Phantom of the Opera” on Broadway the night before we left. It was a perfect ending to a fantastic week.

As Brad and I lay in bed after another round of fantastic sex, he looked down at me and said, “Sarah, I have no clue where this is going to go after you leave here, but I wanted you to know that I have loved every minute of having you here with me.”

I placed my chin on his chest and looked up at him. “I have really enjoyed being here with you also. Who knows, maybe we can connect in the summer.”

“Yeah, maybe,” he sighed. I laid my head back down and tried to fall asleep as silence crept between us.

I laid there for a long time thinking about the past week and how much I really liked Brad, but I don’t think it would ever turn to love. As I did fall asleep, I only dreamed of one man, and it wasn’t Brad.
