Having Fun

Jodi and I flew back to Grand Forks and headed back to the dorms for the last couple of weeks before spring semester started. Like Brad and I, she and Jason parted as friends and would see how things play out as time moves on. Honestly, I don’t think I’ll ever hear from Brad again, and I’m OK with that.

Spring semester began and it was the same old routine. I decided that I would just focus on school for now and nothing else. The semester flew by and before I know it finals were upon us including our jury performances, which I mastered and passed with flying colors.

I returned home for the summer and went back to work at the general store that I had worked in during high school to save up some money. I was planning on getting an apartment for my last two years of school, so I wanted something to put into savings.

Ian never returned home and his parents told me one day that he decided to stay in St. Paul. It had been over a year now since I heard from him. I guess he really has moved on.

Just before school was to start up again, I heard from Bethany that the apartment was ready to go and we could start moving in by the 1st of September. She told me Nikki was already on her way and Jodi should be there by the weekend. I let her know that I would come up over the weekend as well.

My car was loaded up with everything I needed for my own apartment and my parents had ordered some furniture to be delivered when I got there for my bedroom. The rest of the apartment was already furnished, so we just had to provide stuff for our own rooms.

I arrived early Saturday afternoon and Bethany and Nikki helped me unload my car. The delivery truck arrived a couple of hours later and I finished setting up my room.

“We are going out tonight,” Bethany said as we were all settled, except for Jodi, who should be arriving tomorrow.

“Where to?” I asked.

“There’s a party at one of the frat houses and we are invited,” she replied.

“Oh really,” I commented.

“Really. I met a couple of guys the other day who told me we should stop by, so I told them we well.”

“Then what are we waiting for?” Nikki asked and I laughed.

After making sure we had our phones and keys, we locked up and headed over to Greek row. Bethany knocked on the door and one of the guys she talked to let us in while eyeing us up.

We went in and the house was packed and the music was blaring. This is definitely not my cup of tea, but Bethany kept telling me to let go, so I tried. I had a couple glasses of beer and Nikki and I did a lot of dancing. When we found Bethany hours later, she was smashed and we practically had to carry her home.

Tonight’s party was the first of many this year and I found myself going out with the girls nearly every weekend. I still worked hard on my class work, but learned to let loose.

Just after mid-terms, we went to another party where I met Tim.

“Hey babe,” some guy said coming up to me while I was grabbing a drink. “Did it hurt?”

“Did what hurt?” I asked curiously.

“When you fell from heaven,” he answered, while eyeing my up and down.

I shook my head, smiled a little and began walking away.

“Hey wait,” he cried out while catching up to me. “Can you at least tell me your name?”

“I can,” I replied with a smirk.

“So, what is it?” he asked, waiting for me to give him an answer.

“I said I can tell you my name, but I didn’t say I will,” I chuckled and attempted to leave again.

“OK, OK. Will you tell me your name?” he asked again as he caught up with me a second time.

“If I answer, will you leave me alone?” He shook his head no with a smirk on his face. “Fine…it’s Sarah. What’s yours?”

“Tim,” he answered. “Wanna get some fresh air?” he asked as he nodded to the back door.

It was October, but still somewhat nice out and it was getting stuffy in the house, so I nodded my head and followed him out to the back of the house. He leaned up against the porch rails and I did the same facing the backyard which had a few people roaming around.

“So what are you here for?” he asked me out of the blue.

“What do you mean?” I asked.

“What is your major?” he answered me.

“Music Therapy and yours?”

“So you are one of the music freaks, huh?” he chuckled a little. “I’m here for accounting.”

“So a math geek,” I laughed back at him and he nodded and joined me.

“Yeah, I like math and I like money, why not do something with both? Do you play an instrument or something?”

“Yeah, I play lots of them, but focusing on piano and violin.”

“Cool,” he replied. “What kind of music to do you like?”

“Country mostly, but listen to it all. What about you?”

“Country, classic rock, shit you can bang your head to.”

“Cool,” I answered him with his same expression.

“So not to sound like a stalker or anything,” Tim started, “but I’ve noticed you have come here several times with some friends, but no guy. How is that possible?”

I chuckled, “Well, my friends and I like to party and I have no guy that I’m interested in. I just like to have fun.”

“I like to have fun as well,” he wiggled his eyebrows at me. “Would you ever consider going out with me sometime? Maybe to a concert?”

“Why would I want to do that?” I asked playing hard to get.

“Because I’m awesome and fun to be around,” he answered confidently and I laughed out loud.

“I’m sure you are,” I started out.

“But…” he urged me to continue.

“But I’m not someone who most people would go out with.”

“Why not, you like girls or something?” I shook my head and laughed again. “Then why not go out with me?” he asked again. He was persistent, I’d give him that.

“OK fine, I’ll go out with you,” I replied and he smiled like a kid who was just given a bucket of candy. “But it had better be a pretty damn good concert.”

“I’ll make sure of it. How about a dinner and movie while I do some searching?” he asked.

“I suppose that wouldn’t hurt. Next weekend sound good to you?”

“Friday at 6:00?” I nodded. “Just tell me where to pick you up.”

“Give me your phone,” I said and then put my number in his phone and sent me a text so I could send him my details later.

He took his phone back and smiled as he saw what I did. “Come on, let’s go back inside and dance a little,” he said holding his hand out for me. I took it and we joined the crowd once again and danced the rest of the night. He was actually a fun guy and I think I’m going to have fun on these dates.

Friday night arrived and Tim was right on time to pick me up. I put on a pair of skinny black jeans, a pink blouse and jean jacket, and Nikki did my make-up and hair.

“Sarah, Tim is here!” Bethany yelled from the door.

I left my room and met him at the door. “Bye ladies, don’t wait up,” I smirked, and took Tim by the hand and he led me to his car.

“Thank you,” I said to Tim as he held the door open for me. I climbed in and buckled up as he came around to the driver side.

He took to me a nice sit-down restaurant and a waitress led us to a table for two near the back.

“Have you ever been here before?” he asked. I nodded. “I like the steak, what do you like?”

“I like the grilled chicken with dressing and potatoes,” I answered. He smiled and nodded.

The waitress came over and took our orders. After she left, we made some small talk.

“So Tim, where are you from?” I asked.

“I’m from Nebraska, corn country,” he chuckled. “What about you?”

“I’m from New Salem here in North Dakota, so not too far away.”

“Ooh, a farm girl, I’m guessing.”

“Yes, I am a little farm girl. Raising cattle, horseback riding and gathering up those crops, which I so thoroughly enjoy,” I answered sarcastically. Tim laughed at me.

“So do you plan on getting out of there when you are finished here?” he asked.

“I don’t know. There is a hospital in Bismarck that I was hoping to get a job at after graduating, but I don’t know. Part of me wants to get far away, but I also know I would miss home too much.”

“Yeah, I get it. I wanted to leave my hometown and didn’t end up in a much bigger place here, but I heard good things about the school. I only have a semester left and not sure where I’m going after that. How long do you have left?”

“I have a year and a half of classes left then a six-month internship, where I’m looking at Minnesota right now as one of my options.”

Our food came then and we ate and talked throughout dinner. Tim was actually a pretty nice guy with a smart head on his shoulder, unlike some of the other frat boys I’ve met. We talked about past girlfriends and boyfriends since he just couldn’t understand how I was still single. He actually had a pretty bad break-up less than a year ago himself and was just getting back out there.

We left the restaurant and headed over to the movie theatre where we saw an action flick with a little romance in there. When the movie finished, he took me home and he walked me to the door where he leaned in for a kiss and I allowed him.

“I had a really good time tonight,” I told him.

“I did too,” he replied. “Oh, before I forget again, I got us a little something.”

“You did?” I asked curiously.

He handed me two tickets for a Luke Bryan concert in early December. “No way, I love Luke Bryan!” I gave Tim a hug.

“So it’s a date?” he asked.

“It’s a date,” I replied and kissed him again. After breaking up, Tim headed back down the walk to his car. “Hey Tim!” I yelled and he stopped. “Since it’s still only October, I’d love to go out with you a little more before December.”

“I’ll hold you to that,” he smiled. “I’ll call you soon to set another up.”

“You better,” I said smiling. I opened my door and went inside and leaned against the door after closing it. “This was a good night,” I thought to myself and headed toward my room.

Tim and I spent a lot of time together after that night. He’d come over after class to hang out or I’d go to the frat house. We’d go to the parties together on the weekends or would go out with the just the two of us. He even came to some of my classmates recitals with me.

Tim picked me up for the concert a couple hours before it was to start so we could go to dinner first and then get our seats. He actually got us seats in the tenth row from the stage, and I couldn’t believe how close we were. We sang along with Luke or danced in place and I had an amazing time.

I knew the girls were at another party that was still most likely going strong, so I brought Tim back to our place after the concert. After taking my coat off and hanging his on the back of a chair, I wrapped my arms around his neck and kissed him passionately to thank him for the night.

I guess you could say things got pretty heated up after that and we ended up in my bed with our clothes removed and Tim kissing me all over. He kissed me lower and lower until he reached my heated core and flicked my sensitive nub with his tongue. I gasped as he ran his fingers through my wet juices and plunged one and then two inside of me.

I moved my hips against his fingers, but he held me still with his one free hand until he felt my release which he then licked up with his tongue before kissing his way back to my chest and then my chin and finally reaching my lips.

He climbed off the bed and grabbed his jeans to find a condom in his wallet and proceeded to put it on before climbing back over me. He leaned down for another kiss and he plunged deep inside me in one quick thrust and I moaned into the kiss.

I kissed Tim’s shoulders and chest while he moved over me. He was getting faster and deeper and I knew he was close to his release so I slid my fingers down his back and grabbed his ass pushing him into me further until we both released at the same time.

After catching our breaths, he climbed off of me and discarded the condom in my trashcan and rolled onto his side while pulling me close to him. He rubbed his fingers up and down my arm while looking into my eyes.

“Thank you for everything tonight,” I whispered.

“You are welcome,” he replied and kissed my nose and then my lips.

He went to get up and I saw him reach for his underwear and jeans, but I pulled him back. “Stay,” I said.

“Are you sure?” he asked me. I nodded and smiled up at him.

He climbed back into bed and pulled the blankets up and over us. I placed my head on his chest while he wrapped his arm around me and we fell asleep.

I woke up in Tim’s arms and a smile formed on my lips. This felt really good and I knew I moving in the right direction. I felt him stirring and I reached up and gave him a quick kiss before attempting to get off the bed. As I went to move, Tim grabbed my waist and brought me back to him and kissed me again passionately this time.

After a morning of fun in bed, I finally managed to get up and threw on a robe before heading to the bathroom. Tim followed me out with his clothes on, but his shirt was left open.

“Good morning,” Jodi said as she saw us both and gave me a wink.

“Good morning,” I replied before closing the bathroom door.

When I came out, I heard Jodi and Tim talking until they saw me. Tim gave me a big smile and came over to me and kissed me before telling me he had to run, but would call me later. I walked him to the door and he kissed me again before heading to his car.

After closing the door, Jodi jumped all over me. “Oh my God Sarah, you let him stay over?” I nodded and blushed. “You look so happy, even more so than the last guy you were with.” She, of course, was talking about Brad.

“Thanks Jodi. I actually feel really good about this.” I smiled again.

Tim and I had an amazing time together and he even came home with me for winter break for a couple of weeks before we came back to my apartment. Spring semester went just as fast as the previous year and then it was time for Tim to graduate.

It was bittersweet, but I was happy for him. He was heading back to his hometown as he was offered a job as an accountant for a local law firm. After the graduation ceremony, he and I went to dinner together and spent one last night in each other’s arms.

“I’m going to miss you,” I said as I leaned up on my elbow and looked down at Tim while running my other hand over his chest.

“I’m going to miss you too,” he replied bringing my hand up to his lips and kissing my palm.

“I don’t want to say goodbye tomorrow,” I said as a tear ran down my cheek.

“Then don’t,” he said while reaching up and wiping the tear away. “We can still talk and see each other when we have a weekend or so free.”

“Yeah, maybe,” I replied looking down. Sure I wanted to see where this could go, but I couldn’t help but think that this was it.

He brought my face back to his with his finger and thumb and pulled me down for a kiss. We made love throughout the night and I was in heaven. I didn’t know what was going to happen tomorrow, but I was going to enjoy every minute of the present.

I woke up alone as it was late and I knew Tim had to get his belongings together before driving back home. I saw a letter on my nightstand and read it:

This past year has been the best year I’ve had in a very long time. I don’t know where things are going to go from here, but I want you to know that you will always have a piece of my heart. You are an amazing woman and I know you will go far in your music and your career with your caring and loving heart. I hate to leave you while you are still asleep, but you look so comfortable and I knew it would be harder for us to separate if I waited until you woke up. I will call you when I get home so you don’t have to worry if I made it safely or not.

I felt a tear drop from my cheek to my hand and held the letter to my chest. I will always cherish my time with Tim and I do wish him well in his future.

I entered the kitchen to grab something to eat when the girls came in and all gathered around me and we hugged. “It will be OK,” I heard Nikki say quietly.

I smiled after pulling away and nodded at her. I will be OK!
