I FaceTime Tony to show him the apartment Mary has decided to set me up in. It’s a beautiful fully furnished one-bedroom space. The art on the walls is exquisite, the bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom are spacious, and the televisions are ginormous. If this is really where I get to live while working for Mary Ashford, I can’t picture myself ever going back home to my high school bedroom in Indiana.

“It’s amazing!” Tony says, admiring the aesthetic as I walk around the apartment getting every glimpse of it on camera.

“Isn’t it?!” I exclaim.

I sit down on the edge of the bed and stare at his handsome face through the screen.

“There’s something I really want to ask you when we’re face to face again,” he tells me.

“There is?” I ask.

“Yes. It’s just not something that can be done over the phone. This is 100% an in-person type of conversation.”

“Alright,” I say to him, smiling. “I can be patient.”

I know for a fact he wants to ask me to be his girlfriend. He wants to make things official.

“I really miss you,” I tell him.

“I really miss you too… But this is a once in a lifetime opportunity for you. I hope you take it all in and just enjoy it. You deserve it.”

I absorb his words and really try to absorb the reality of my present moment.

Monday morning is my first day of work, reporting to Mary Ashford at her office. I walk into the building and look at Kate as I pass her by and head to the back. It feels good to walk past Kate after she spent the entire week last week silently judging me, sneering at me, and rolling her eyes at my efforts.

Mary asks me to spend the day going over some of her own personal designs and adding any creative tweaks I might deem necessary. I sit down in a separate office away from her to have some privacy as I delve into my thoughtful creative side.

A super tall, good looking guy with dark brown hair and an amazingly full beard passes by. He slows down when he sees me there and peeks his head in.

“New girl?” he asks.

“Um. Yeah. Hi, I’m Nora.”

New-Girl-Nora,” he says with a grin. “I’m Lucas. Lucas Parsons. I work here also. I’m one of the lead marketing managers for Ashford Designs.”

“Oh, okay… that’s cool.”

“You’re a designer?”

“Yeah, I guess you could call me that. Today’s only my first day.”

“Trust me, I know. I would have noticed someone as hot as you in the office if you’d started before today.”

I can feel myself blushing as I smile at his flirtatious remark.

“See you around, New-Girl-Nora.”

That whole entire interaction just evoked some serious romantic emotion inside of me. I immediately pull out my phone to text Tony and send him a message.

I send, “Thinking about you. Hope you’re having a good day :)” in an attempt to completely clear my head of Lucas Parsons.

Despite my weak attempt to return my thoughts to Tony, I'm suddenly stuck thinking about this Lucas guy and how much I enjoyed his flirty banter.
