I curled my toes into the cool grass as I lay on my back, my exposed legs soaking in the sun as my shoulders kept warm underneath the blanket. I curled my face into Kaine’s side. Smiling as he pulled me in closer.

“Thank you.” I said.

“For what?”

“For letting me come on this run with you.” I placed a small peck on his chest.

“Of course.” He kissed the top of my head.

I snuggled into him. My body loving the feeling of his naked skin against mine.

“So what happens now?” I asked, my mind wondering.

“Well, we have enough to take out the rest of the team that was trying to take down the company. We have enough that they’ll go away for the rest of their lives.” He said.

“Why didn’t you just tell me from the beginning that this was going on?”

“I don’t know.” He sighed. “I didn’t want anything to happen to you if they found out that you knew. I was young and stupid and I made so many mistakes that I will live the rest of my life making up for.” He squeezed my hip.

“We both will spend the rest of our lives making up for lost time, and mistakes. But we have forever, we have each other.” I sighed. “We have a lot of things we have to work on and move past. But we have a lifetime to sort those things out.”

“A lifetime with you sounds absolutely perfect.” He rolled, trapping me beneath him.

I smiled up at him as I reached out and glided my thumb across his cheek.

“Absolutely perfect.” I whispered before I pressed my lips against his.
