Chapter 18

Hudson’s P.O.V

“So, what do you want to do in California?” I asked as we sat in our seats in the plane. I booked First class as usual.

“I honestly don’t know but I do know a lot of places that we can have fun in,” she smiled. God, I love seeing that. I feel this uncontrollable joy out of nowhere when Sky is around. She is my source of feeling something after a long long time. I have never felt this feeling. Well, not after Camille... Ok, the whole point of going to California is to spend time with Sky and to take my mind off of things. I need to do that.

Sky’s P.O.V

“OK,” I started as I looked at him. We just got our food in the plane and were eating it. “I was thinking-”

“Which never goes well,” he smirked causing me to roll my eyes.

“As I was saying, before I got rudely interrupted,” I said and now it was his turn to roll his eyes. “We could go to a party because well, I know a lot of people that throws parties every single day and we could go to the beach and a lot of other places.”

“Sure, but where are we staying. I mean, a hotel or what?” Hudson raised a brow.

OK, this is the hard part. I know that I’ve gotten better since the day of the accident but I don’t know if going back to the house will give me a hard time. One of the reasons that I came to England was to forget my past and move on. But I already knew that wasn’t possible and that I’ll have to face this one day. Why not do it now? I didn’t want to be in that place where I go somewhere and remember the memories that I made with my family. They’re dead but is there really anything that I can do for them? No. So I’ll just have to suck it up and deal with it.

“Um, let’s stay at my place, I have a spare key,” I replied and ate my food.

“Ok,” he said.

****

We only packed a few sets of clothes since we’re gonna go back in like a few days. So, we got our backpacks and went up to the front door of my house.

I felt my tears rise but I just blinked them away.

This is gonna be alright. I’m going to be alright.

This is alright. I’m alright.

I slowly unlocked the door and stepped in.

It didn’t look like I expected it to, at all. It didn’t have cobwebs, dust and everything wasn’t a wreck. Grana must’ve called some cleaners to keep this place tidy. The furniture was covered in white blankets. I turned on the lights and it didn’t look like the place that I had all those great memories in. It looks only like a place of morning. Not like the beautiful and lively place that I called home. No, this is not a home, it’s just a house. A dead, negative house.

One that I could possibly change. One that I can change if I put my mind to it. But the question is, will I?

OK, that was overdramatic, even for me.

We all know that I’m gonna do something.

I felt the tears rise again but I couldn’t stop them now.

My family is dead. There’s absolutely nothing I can do about it. I have to move on. I can’t spend every second of my life dealing with this.

I can do this.

I looked at Hudson to see him looking at me already.

“Sky, are you sure that you want to stay here?” he asked. You see, that might’ve sounded rude but it’s sort of his way of asking me if I’m ‘OK’ even though he knows that I’m tired of people asking me that and that I’m clearly not OK.

“Yeah, all I have to do is get rid of these blankets,” I replied with a huff.

“When was the last time you came here?” he raised a brow.

“I didn’t come here since they died, which was almost 3 months ago,” I said as I looked around for a bit. “Come on, let’s see if the guest bedroom is OK.”

He followed me upstairs and I opened the door to the guest bedroom, which was right next to mine.

It’s clean and basically perfect. The bed was already made, the bathroom was clean and everything was alright.

“Why don’t you get settled in?” I asked as I offered him a smile which he returned with a nod.

I walked into my room and saw that it still had the pictures and decorations. The only thing was, it felt life-less.

I need a change.

****

“How about this?” I asked Hudson as he was tapping away on his phone.

He glanced up from his phone for a second and said, “It’s good.”

“That’s what you said for the past 20 ones,” I snorted.

“Because they’re good,” he said as he was looking at his phone.

I tried once to take away his phone but he just held it higher and happily watched me struggle.

“OK, why don’t you choose something for me?” I crossed my arms across my chest.

“What kind of dress are you looking for again?” Hudson asked as he put his phone in his pocket.

I scoffed. We’ve been here for 2 whole hours and he still doesn’t know what kind of dress I’ve been looking for?

“Jeez, I was kidding,” he rolled his eyes. Good.

He looked around for a bit and it felt super awkward that Hudson (a guy) was looking for a dress for me (a girl) in a lady’s section.

However, all the awkwardness came to a halt when I saw other girls (some are my age and some are not) were sort of doing the same thing with their boyfriends probably. Humans are quite fascinating.

“Here,” Hudson said as he handed me a dress. I went to the changing room and put it on.

It was a black dress that reached till my mid-thigh. It had a tiered skirt with a lace bralette back and it was sexy and also elegant. So, I basically just looked 10 times more hotter. I wore a pair of black stilettoes and then walked out to get Hudson's reaction.

"How's this?"

Hudson's P.O.V

I lifted my head up from the phone and looked at her. Gorgeous. She looked absolutely stunning.

Just like I thought, the dress hugged all her curves and fit her perfectly.

I felt the blood rushing to my southern regions. God, she looked so damn sexy.

I thought of a millions ways to praise her but finally settled on giving her a thumbs up.

"Finally, a different reaction!" Sky exclaimed. Cute.

Jeez, since when did I start thinking really sappy shit?

Sky's P.O.V

"Skylar Johnson," Hudson said.

We just finished shopping and was just looking around for fun. Even though I said that I'll pay for my stuff, Hudson payed for it.

I never thought he would do something so gentlemanly. No offence.

I turned around to face him.

"I dare you to get highlights," he smirked and nodded to the hair salon we were right in front of.

"Do I have to?" I whined.

"Yes. Unless you want everyone to know that you're a coward," he shrugged.

"Fine," I rolled my eyes. He would never do that.

****

"So, how the hair?" I asked. I got dark blue highlights and these are gonna look AMAZING with my dress.

"You look like a completely different person," he exclaimed.

"In a bad way or a good way?"

"In a good way," he smiled. God, every time he smile, it just takes away my breath all over again.

"You should smile more often," I blurted out and no I want to face-palm at how creepy I sounded.

"And why is that?" he raised a brow challengingly. Phew, he doesn't think that I'm creepy.

"Because I like it," I said before walking out of the hair salon like nothing just happened when I just had a mini-heart attack inside. What are you doing to me Hudson Walker?
