Chapter 3

“Macy I can’t believe that he’s doing this to me!” I cried.

“Alli, it’s going to be okay at least Nick will be going with you,” she offered.

“He’s ruining my life,” I countered.

“Look at it this way you get to travel and you don’t have to see your jerk of a mate with his wife. You and Nick can be together without Mr. Eastman getting in the way,” she explained.

“Your right I guess. Why don’t you come with us? I need you. You’re my bff.” I proposed.

“If you can get your dad to convince my parents I’m in,” she conceded.

“Yay, deal. I’ll talk to him as soon as he gets home.” I promised.

So this was what my life had come to; sent off by my parents so that my mate didn’t end up killing my boyfriend. Maybe I should go all psycho and threaten to kill his wife. Two could play that game I thought smirking.

“What’s so funny?” Macy asked.

“Oh nothing, just wishful thinking.”

“I bet!” she said laughing.

I was not going to let him get the best of me. He was a jerk and he knew it. I just needed to keep my mind on what I had going on right now and that was a track meet. I finished stretching and took my place beside Macy on the track. When the horn went off I took off running hoping to leave all this behind me. The reality of it was no matter how hard or how fast I ran there was no out running the mess that was my life. Crossing the finish line in first place I thought about how much I would miss my life here.

“It’s going to be okay.” Macy said coming up behind me putting her hand on my shoulder.

I wish that I could believe that but regardless of what was to come I had to go home and face my dad.

“Honey are you done packing?” My dad said from the door way.

“No! This isn’t fair dad. Why are you letting him do this to me?” I pleaded.

“Honey it’s for your own good. You may not understand this now but Matthew is an Alpha,” he rationalized.

“So what!” I yelled.

“He won’t give you up Alli he can’t his wolf would never let him. If you stay he will have you even if it is as his mistress. Believe me when I say that he’s doing the right thing for you. Alpha’s are very possessive of their mates,” he expounded.

“You’re an Alpha too dad you could protect me!”

“Honey if I try and keep you from him he won’t hesitate to go to war with us. Alli believe me when I say that I have no problem going up against him but I think that you would only be unhappy here having to see him with his wife. He’s giving you an out, take it. I’m by no means defending him honey, but you don’t realize how hard this is for him. Alpha’s always have the strongest bond with their mates he’s letting you go in the only way he can.” He defended.

“Fine, but If I have to go can you convince Macy’s parents to let her come with us?” I said giving him my sad puppy face.

“Done!” he agreed.

“Thank You dad.” I said appreciatively.

“It’s all going to work out honey.” He said hugging me tightly.

We decided that we would wait a few days before we left so that we could get through some tests we had. I knew that I would be seeing him in class but I decided that I would ignore him and only talk to him if it was class related.

“Love, you have all your things packed yet?” Nick said pulling me into his arms.

“Not yet but it’s getting there. What does one take into exile?” I said frowning.

“Will it be so bad to be with me?” He said kissing me.

Why, oh why, could Nick not have been my mate? I knew he loved me and I loved him.

“No, I’m going to love being with you. I love you Nick. I know you’re not my mate but I want you to be.” I explained.

Someone growled and I turned to see Matthew glaring at us. I knew he had heard me talking to Nick. Oh well I’m glad he heard I wanted him to know that I loved Nick. I grabbed Nick’s hand and we walked to lunch and away from Matthew’s glare.

She was leaving tomorrow and I had to get my wolf under control. I had to see her one last time. I drove to her house thinking that I was crazy to even be going there this couldn’t end well. I knocked on the door and she answered. All the breath left my body and I just looked at her trying to memorize every inch of her. Her brown hair flowed down her back in waves and her beautiful hazel eyes narrowed when she saw me.

“What are you doing here?” She said frowning.

“I just wanted to say goodbye to you.” I explained.

“Well goodbye!” She said trying to slam the door in my face.

“Please, can you just take a ride with me?” I asked.

“Why would I go anywhere with you?” She yelled. “Just do this one thing for me?” I pleaded.

“Will it make you go away?” She said her eyes full of anger.

“Yes, I promise I will let you go in peace if you just give me this.” I promised.

“Fine, but I can’t be long I have to finish packing.” She conceded.

Alli was leaving tomorrow and I knew Matthew was going to her. I couldn’t stop how my heart was breaking. I knew that he loved me but I also knew that he loved her and more so than me. I should do the right thing and let him go but I couldn’t he was all I had my parents were both dead and I had no siblings. I was alone Matthew was all I had. I admired Alli I respected her not a lot of wolves would have done what she did. She had every right to Matthew she was the one that was made for him she was his other half. Instead she decided to respect our marriage and for that I would forever be grateful. I had just found out yesterday that we were having a baby. I was scared to tell Matthew. I was not sure how he would react. All I did know was that this baby would be loved no matter what.

What the hell was I doing going anywhere with Matthew? I wish I knew. I guess I did know, I wanted to spend what little time I could with him and I hated myself for it. We got to the park and he opened my door for me.

“Tell me what it is you want to say so that you can take me back!” I said coldly.

“Can we not at least be friends?” He asked softly.

“Friends, are you kidding me, you’re my mate. The one that I was supposed to grow old with. You’re the other half of my soul. You were supposed to be the father of my children! So no we can’t be friends!” I exclaimed my eyes starting to glow. I knew that I was being unfair but so was he.

“Calm down Alli!” He exclaimed.

“Are you seriously telling me to calm down?” I growled.

“You know what this was a bad idea, take me home.” I said trying and failing to calm myself down. “All we do is fight when we are together.” I yelled getting madder by the second.

“I really do love her Alli. She has been my wife for 5 years. What kind of man would it make me to abandon her? She has no else but me. She’s innocent in all this. She’s a good person Alli,” he explained.

“Do you think it matters to me that you love her!” I growled.

“When you go to bed at night it’s going to be her that you’re sleeping next to. She’s going to be the mother of your children. She is the one you’re going to grow old with!” I yelled.

“You’re so worried about hurting her, why can’t you see how much you’re hurting me. I don’t want to be the reason for why a marriage breaks up. I don’t want to be that person. It’s just so hard not feel how I feel. That’s why I made the decision I did. You know who am I kidding I’ve know from the start that you were never going to leave her.” I whispered. “FYI I’m a good person too.” I said walking back to the car.

I needed to get away from him. Why could he not understand how much he was hurting me? Love, ha it didn’t matter that he loved her or how good of a person she was. He had chosen her and that was the only thing that mattered. I needed to just let him go. All he could do for me was bring me heartache!

“Alli, why can’t you understand?” He requested.

“I understand perfectly, painfully so. I met you too late, there’s no room for me in your life. You didn’t wait for me, that’s what I understand. You jumped the gun and now we ALL have to suffer” I said laughing.

“You do what you have to do for you. And you better believe that I’ll do what’s best for me!” I said smiling.

“I guess I owe you a thank you because you’re shipping me off.” I said glaring at him.

“Nick and I can be together and he can be all the things to me that you will never be.” I stated forcefully.

“Since you’re the one that’s keeping us apart you have to promise me something.”

“Anything!” I said. “Promise you will never come after me. You will never try to get in between the life me and Nick are going to make together.”

My heart stopped and it was hard for me to breathe. Could I let her live in peace? I knew that it was the right thing to do even though my heart was breaking and my wolf wanted me to keep her here with us. I loved her and I wanted her to be happy I just had to try not to think of the fact that she was going to be happy with someone else.

“I promise!” I whispered.

“Thank you.” She said tears in her eyes. “I won’t forget this sacrifice,” she said sadly. I drove her home in silence and the closer we got to her house the faster my heart was beating. I knew this would be the last time I saw her for a while. As she climbed out of the car I grabbed her hand and she turned and looked at me.

“Alli always remember that I love you and if you ever need me day or night call me and I’ll be there.”

She just nodded her head. “Good bye Matthew,” she said with tears in her eyes.

“Good bye Alli.” I said watching her walk away my heart breaking with each step she took.

I walked inside not turning back. It was killing me to walk away from him knowing that I would not be seeing him for a while. I needed Nick. I pulled out my phone and text the boy who had always been there for me.

“I need you can you come.” I text.

“Already on my way.” He responded.

He was a great guy and I was going to put Matthew in the past and start my life with Nick. I didn’t want to hurt him he didn’t deserve it. I was so lost in my thoughts that I didn’t hear Nick walk into my room.

“What you thinking about so hard, love?” he inquired.

“Just how messed up my life is right now.” I said half smiling.

“Nick are you sure you want to stay with me? I don’t want to hurt you.”

“Alli, I love you and nothing you do is ever going to change that. I’m willing to take what I can get. I know you love me, maybe not how you love him but you love me,” he rationalized.

He was right. I loved him.

“Get changed and get into bed. We have a long day of traveling tomorrow.” He told me.

“Will you stay with me”? I said biting my lip.

“How can I say no to that face?” He said pulling me to him.

“I love you Alli.” He said kissing me. When we broke apart I grabbed his face and looked him in the eyes.

“I love you too Nick.” I replied fiercely.

“Get up sleepy head.” Nick said trying to wake me up.

“Uhhh 5 more minutes.” I whined.

“No can do Love, we have a plane to catch.” Nick said pulling the blanket off of me.

“It’s so early! Is Macy here already?” I asked.

“Yup she got here 10 minutes ago,” he replied.

“Fine give me a minute.” I said getting out of my warm comfortable bed.

I grabbed the clothes that I was going to travel in and headed to the bathroom. I took a quick shower and got dressed. I guess this was it. I looked around my room thinking that it may be awhile till I was able to be in it again. I headed down stairs to see everyone already ready to go. My mom handed me a pop tart and a small jug of milk.

“For the road.” She said hugging me, “I’m going to miss you Alli.”

“I’m going to miss you too mom, but look on the bright side there’s always Skype!” I said trying to make her feel better.

“Alright kids you better get going.” My dad said hugging me tight.

“Dad I can’t breathe.”I choked out.

“Oh, sorry sweetheart.” He said letting me go.

“Nick you’re in charge of making sure that Alli and Macy are well taken care of.”

“Of course Alpha. I would never let any harm come to them.” He said grabbing his bag.

“All your things will be waiting for you when you get there. You have the keys to your house and you guys are already enrolled in school.” He said reassuringly. "Here is a credit card for all your expenses."He said handing me a black card.

"What's my limit."I asked curiously.

"No limit,"He said with a huge grin on his face. "If your forced to be away from home you might as well have fun."He said looking suspicious.

“Thanks for making sure everything was ready for us. Your the best dad."I said hugging him one last time.

" Alright guys, we better be going.” I said taking one last look around the house.

By this time Alli would be on a flight away from me. My wolf was angry that I let her go. He wanted his mate. I did too if I was honest with myself.

“Are you OK Matthew?” Mandy asked sitting next to me on the couch.

“I'm fine.” I said hoping that she believed me. “Listen, I’ve been wanting to talk to you about something for a few days. But with everything that’s been going on there hasn’t been a good time,” she said.

“What is it?” I asked worried.

“Well, um mm, the thing is that I’m pregnant,” she informed me.

My world shattered and I knew then that any hope that I had of ever being with Alli had just went out the window. My wolf was angry that our mate was not the one carrying our baby. No matter what, this was my child and I would love him no matter who its mother was.

“Wow that’s great news Mandy.” I said pulling her into my arms.

“Really? You’re okay with it?” she questioned.

“Why wouldn’t I be?” I replied.

“Well with the whole mate thing and all I wasn’t sure how you were going to take it.” She said uncertainly.

I knew that I was hurting Mandy but I was going to try my best to reassure her of how much I loved her.

“Mandy, I know that things have been crazy these last few days and I want to apologize if I have made you feel unimportant. Regardless of what you thought I’m happy that I’m about to be a father,” I assured her.

She was my wife and I was going to act like the loving husband that I had always been. Not the jerk that I had been to her the past few days. I made my choice now I had to live with it. No matter how much it hurt.
