14 - "One Man Band"
I had no idea what I was doing. I sat at my computer looking up date ideas, romantic places, and the latest movies in theaters. Based on my research, I decided that going into the city was my best option. Still, there were thousands of restaurants to choose from, all of different ethnic variety. I narrowed it down to Mexican, Italian, Brazilian, Steakhouses, Seafood and Japanese. What was Hibachi? I, myself, would choose a good steakhouse or BBQ, but then there were still various restaurants to choose from and then I thought; Are steakhouses even romantic? Back to square one. Then there was the movie.
I sighed in exasperation. I did not know what any of these movies were about or if there was a particular movie she wanted to watch. I placed my hand on my forehead as I leaned forward on my desk when Keely walked in with files in her hand.
“What’s up with you?” She asked as she walked around to stand behind me. Her hands were on my shoulders and she began to knead the knots away.
“Tryna figure out where I’m takin’ Ellie Mae for our date.” I answered, stopping her hands and removing them from my body. I admit that I had used her in the past, but I did not want her to think there was anything between us anymore.
“A date? You never took me on a date.” Keely commented, turning my chair to face her. “Is she being a boring human and not giving in without a date?” She said as she sat on my lap, wrapping her arms around my neck.
I pulled her arms off me and pushed her off of my lap. “Keely.” I used my Alpha tone on her as a warning. “She is my Luna, and yours. You will respect that. I will always choose her. So, you better learn your place fast and understand that if you ever disrespect me or my Luna again then there will be hell to pay. Do I make myself clear?”
“Yes, Alpha.” She nearly snarled her response.
Joseph appeared at the door. He loudly cleared his throat to alert us of his presence, but that did not distract Keely from staring directly at me with a curled lip. “You’re dismissed, Keely.” I ordered her. She got herself up off the floor and huffed her way out of the room.
“Told you that you shouldn’t have gotten involved with her.” Joseph taunted as he walked in, taking a seat in a chair in front of my desk. I gave him my death stare; I hate I told you sos.
“It seemed like a good idea at the time. Besides, it’s not like you didn’t sleep around with other she-wolves.” I retorted.
“True, but they knew what it was.” He answered. “Keely was hopin’ Ellie Mae would never show up here and she could become Luna.” The look on my face must have asked the question I had in my head. “C’mon man, we all knew it was Ellie Mae. We couldn’t understand why you didn’t go to her when she arrived in Houston.”
“Her father wanted her to live a happy human life. I didn’t want to disturb her peace.” I answered.
“I call bullshit!” Hendrick said as he walked into the office. “You know it was more than that.”
“How was Austin?” Joseph asked pulling Hendrick’s collar down once he was seated next to him. A small bruise laid on his neck where a mark would go. “I see you hooked up with a girl.”
“Hendrick. Seriously?” I was annoyed with the fact that he had a hickey when he was supposed to be looking at bulls.
“How’s the mate situation here?” Hendrick asked us, trying to change the subject.
“That’s my question for you too, Joseph. What happened with you and Selena last night? You didn’t come back.” I watched as Joseph’s lip curled into a smirk. That could only mean they made progress.
“Well, let’s just say she ain’t gonna fight the mate bond right now. Her owl has the same diamond shape as my wolf. That was enough for her to question it and open herself up to the bond. She actually felt the sparks when I touched her.” He said to both of us. While my mouth dropped, Hendrick sat there with confusion written all over his face. Joseph gave Hendrick a quick explanation of what had happened the night before and continued to explain a little about her powers. It was definitely shocking and interesting to say the least.
“What about you and Ellie Mae?” Hendrick asked me.
“I asked her on a date. But I’m strugglin’ to figure it out. Maybe Selena can help?” I was desperate for some advice and Selena was her best friend so who better to help than her.
“Well, it wouldn’t hurt to ask.” Joseph turned his attention back to Hendrick to speak to him. “So, is there a girl in Austin we need to save? Why is it that you’re always the first to jump at the opportunity to drive to Austin or anywhere near, when there’s any business to be had?” Joseph worded our many questions.
“Well, you don’t have to save her. She’s a wolf. And to answer your question, it’s my job to help with the purchase of cattle. Austin is not the only place I go.” Hendrick scoffed and rolled his eyes.
“Huh. This is true, but you seem exceptionally happy when you have to go to Austin.” Joseph continued to inquire, causing Hendrick to become annoyed.
“I just like the city. It’s cool.” Hendrick answered, attempting to brush off the inquisition.
I had a little help from Selena as to what kind of food Ellie Mae would prefer and her stating that going to the movies may be an outdated idea. Still, she did not offer any other alternative options. Although she did tell me where in the city I should focus my attention.
I waited for Ellie Mae as she finished getting ready in our room. Granted, I, too, readied myself at the same time in the same room. I had managed to get her flowers this morning. I wanted to get her sunflowers, but they were not in bloom yet. Instead, I opted for pink lilies and roses. They sat in a vase on the nightstand next to her side of the bed.
I watched her as she dug around in the boxes for shoes and jewelry. During the week she had managed to hang some of her clothes in the closet, but most of her belongings were still in boxes. I knew she had been busy with school, and I offered to have someone come in and put things away because the clutter was driving me crazy.
“No, I’d rather do it. I wanna know where everything is. Besides, I need a favor from you.” Ellie Mae said as she took the item she was looking for out of the box that she was digging through.
“What’s that?” I asked, enjoying the way she looked in her mid-thigh black and white floral dress. She wore her long golden pink blond hair down and curled.
“I need some drawer space to put my non hang-up clothes. I also need some counter space in the bathroom. For such a large and beautiful house, it surprises me how outdated the bathroom is. We need more than one sink.” She stated as she walked into the bathroom, resulting in me following along.
“So, you need me to make room for your items? Or do you want permission to remodel the bathroom?” I asked her bluntly as I stood behind her while she used the mirror to put her earrings in. She had not fully asked a question, but rather made statements, and I noticed that she did this a lot.
“Well, I just need space. I don’t want to overstep.” She answered, turning around to meet my gaze.
“You wouldn’t be oversteppin’. If you want to remodel the bathroom, or redo the bedroom, or buy new furniture so you have more space, you are well within your right to do so. This is your home and you’re my mate and Luna. You can do what you want.” I said placing my forehead against hers. The things she does to me. I wanted to kiss her, take her right here and now, and show her just how much she means to me.
“I might take you up on that. I would love to have a his and hers sink, and a jetted bathtub. Maybe a rainfall shower.” Her hands were on my chest and I could see the desire in her eyes while she bit her lower lip.
“Are you ready to go?” I asked her. I had made reservations, which I was more than willing to cancel, but she made it clear what she wanted. The perfect kiss, to me it did not matter where and when. The moment her lips meet mine, the moment I taste her for the first time will be perfect because I have waited my entire life for that kiss. Perhaps, the reason she wanted it to be perfect was because she too has been waiting her entire life for our lips to meet. I reluctantly stepped back, pulling myself from her. “We have to leave in fifteen minutes darlin’.”
“I’m ready. Let me just get a sweater.” She said walking back into the closet, “Oh, hold on.” She said coming back where she placed her flat heeled shoes. She slipped them on and walked back into the closet, returning with a sweater in her hand. “Okay ready!”
I followed her out, running into her when she stopped again. “Wait, I need my purse and phone.” She walked around the bedroom looking for her phone until she looked over to me and asked if I had seen it. She was standing next to the bed, and I walked up to her, and grabbed the phone that laid on the bed right next to her.
“If it was a snake, it would’ve bit ya.” I said to her as I handed it to her. She blushed and let out a small giggle.
