|anything to keep her safe|
“Athan... Stop!” I hissed.
He kept hold of me tightly. “Alarix, this is going to be easier on both of us if you just come home.” He grunted.
“Just let me go... You’ll never see me again.” I pleaded.
I had no way to let Lila know I did want to go with her and that I did want her. As soon as I set foot in the house, I won’t be leaving again. She would leave thinking the worst. It pained me knowing she was going to be hurting because of me.
Athan ignored me the rest of the way down our street. As we neared the house, I could feel the anger. I was in for it when I walked through the door. I stopped outside of the house as Athan gripped hold of the door handle. He glanced at me and smiled sadly at me; worry flashed through his eyes.
Fucking hypocrite! If he was even a little bit worried for me... He’d act like a big brother and take me away from here. I could be with Lila right now.
“For what it’s worth... I’d disobey father for a piece of your mate.” He chuckled. I hissed, and my fist connected with his jaw.
“What the fuck, Rix?” He growled.
“Don’t ever say anything about her.” I snarled.
I pushed open the door and stepped inside. I wasn’t in the mood for a shouting match with my parents. I wanted to go straight to my room and wallow in self-pity. I slammed the door closed on Athan. He can fucking stay out there, like the little rodent he is.
“Alarix, get in here now.” Mother yelled from the kitchen.
I trudged towards the kitchen. I stood in the doorway and glanced around. My parents were at the table with a brown-haired woman. I sucked in a breath. I knew it wasn’t my Lila, but it made me crave her.
“We have a gift for you.” Mother grinned at me, but it wasn’t a grin you’d expect from a parent. She had a sinister look on her face, and I knew exactly what they had done.
“I don’t want anything from you.” I shot.
They are going to try and get me to feed on her. They constantly try, they’ve done it for years, and tonight’s answer isn’t going to be any different.
“Not even this beautiful Lily,” Father asked, stroking her hair. I clenched my fists together and hissed.
She’s called Lily...
What the fuck are they doing?
“I don’t feed on humans. You know this." I seethed.
I turned to walk out. I needed to get far away from them. “You either feed on her, or I’m going to find your beloved and feed on her, but I won’t stop.” Father hissed
I could feel my body shaking. I was in an impossible situation. If I feed on her, the human blood could become like an addiction... It’s been too long since I’ve done it. I don’t know how I would react; I could become feral. If I don’t feed on her, I know my father isn’t bluffing... He will. It’s a no-brainer, really... I’ll do anything to make sure she’s safe.
“Tell him, pretty. You want him to feed on you,” I heard my mother speak to her.
“I want you to feed on me...” The woman purred. She didn’t even sound like Lila. I could practically taste her desperation. She would probably be better with Athan; he’d definitely keep her satisfied.
I dragged in a deep, wrenching breath and turned slowly around. “If I do this... You leave Lila alone?” I choked.
“If you do this and you take your beloved tomorrow... I won’t go near her.” Father declared.
I glanced at the woman, trying to see any hint of discomfort, but like all the willing woman that prance through the house, she was ready and willing. I didn’t want to do this at all... I vowed I’d never do this again. My stomach was churning at the thought of it, but I don’t see any other way.
“Son, it’s been so long... You’re older now... Just remember, suck slowly.” Mother coaxed.
I glared at her and breathed out exasperatedly. I took unsteady steps towards the woman, she turned around, and my heart dropped. Her eyes were the same colour as Lila’s. She stood up and sauntered towards me, swaying her hips. If she thinks she’s getting anything from me, she’s got another thing coming. I’m not touching her more than I have to.
She stopped in front of me and bared her neck to me. My fangs elongated as I was panting. I was disgusted and felt like I was going to throw up. I stepped forward, placed my hand at the back of her neck as I leaned forward and sunk my fangs into her neck.
The taste was disgusting but euphoric. I felt stronger than I had in years already. My senses heightened, and I could smell how aroused she was. I had to withdraw my fangs as her scent made me gag.
“Lily, love, Athan is waiting for you.” Mother guided her to the kitchen door before coming back and standing in front of me.
“See... That wasn’t so bad now, was it?” My father chirped.
My rage was through the roof. I wanted to sink my fangs into someone again. This wasn’t good; I knew I couldn’t do it again... I wouldn’t be able to stop next time.
“Fuck you.” I seethed.
“Go to bed, Alarix. I will be keeping an eye on you, so don’t think about leaving. Remember our deal, and your little beloved will be ok.” My father grunted before walking out of the kitchen.
“We only want what is best for you, Alarix.” My mother sighed.
“No, you fucking don’t. If you did, you wouldn’t be keeping me away from Lila.” I growled. “You can keep me away, but it will never stop me from wanting her. I’ll do this unity with Lenora, but if you think I’m giving you grandchildren, you can get fucked.” I snarled.
“Goodnight.” I huffed before walking out of the kitchen.
I heard her gasp, and I knew she was shocked at my outburst. I’m usually the quiet one of this family... I don’t know what they expected when they forced me to feed on human blood.
I stomped my way upstairs, not caring about all the noise I was making. I reached my bedroom and swung open the door. Celeste was sat on my bed with a black eye and a bit mark on her cheek.
I rushed over to her and kneeled in front of her. “I never told them, I promise.” She whimpered. I wrapped my arms around her and cradled her to me as she wept.
This only added fuel to my rage. How could they do this to their daughter? I hated that she went through the pain because she was helping me. She could have told them and saved herself from it, but she didn’t.
“Did you get in much trouble?” She whispered.
“They made me feed on a human,” I replied, trying to stop the shakiness in my voice.
She gasped and shook her head. “Rix, that should never have happened! That’s dangerous for you and the human. How are you feeling?” She exclaimed.
I sucked in a breath and sighed. “I’ll do anything to make sure Lila is safe.” I declared.
I don’t know how I’m feeling. My body is buzzing with adrenaline, but I know that will pass and then the hunger will set in. I sighed and shrugged at her.
After we had spent a few hours together just talking, she called it a night and headed off to her bedroom. I fell asleep as the sun was rising with images of Lila embedded in my brain.
I woke up feeling like I couldn’t breathe. I clutched my chest and gasped for breath. My door opened, and Celeste peeked her head around. She glanced at me, and her eyes went wide. She rushed over to me and shook me.
“What’s wrong?” She fretted.
“What time is it?” I asked, coughing.
I think I’m feeling the pain of Lila leaving... She’ll be feeling this pain too. I sucked in a breath as I felt the tears forming in my eyes. I choked back a sob, shaking my head.
“A little after six in the evening, mother and father were coming to wake you in half an hour.” She answered.
I had a rough sleep. I kept tossing and turning most of the time. When I did fall asleep, I was plagued with her beautiful face.
“She’s gone, Cel.” I whimpered.
She wrapped her arms around my back and held me tight as I cried. The pain had vanished, which means she’s no longer in pain. I breathed out in relief and looked at Celeste. She looked anxious and nervous.
“What’s wrong?” I asked.
“The king is coming.” She replied.
I furrowed my brows at her. Why would the king be coming here? That doesn’t make any sense whatsoever.
“Something about this unity, I think.” She replied. “He’ll be here any time now, so get up.” She nudged me.
I groaned and stood up. My fangs pushed through. I was hungry... I needed to feed. “I hate that they’ve done this to you, Rix.” She whined.
I drew a shaky breath in, waiting for the hunger to pass. “Anything to keep her safe,” I muttered.
I pulled some clothes on and made my way down the stairs just as there was a knock on the front door. I joined the others in the living room as my mother went to the door to greet the king.
“If he asks anything about your beloved... You don’t want her. You want Lenora.” My father hissed in my ear.
I rolled my eyes but nodded. He glared at me before looking ahead and plastering a fake-ass smile on his face. He doesn't even like the king.
"I'm here about the unity between Alarix and Lenora... You know it can't happen, right?" He raised his brow.
Straight to the point... I like him.
"Yes, it can. Alarix doesn't want the werewolf. We've spoken about this." My dad grumbled.
"You don't have our permission to do this... If you do, you will be defying the vampire courts. Alarix needs to be with his beloved, the one the prophecy states." The king argued.
"You know about the prophecy?" I blurted.
He nodded. "You are destined for Lila Morris, a warrior she-wolf. Elias Kemp, the warlock, is destined for future Alpha Levi Morris of The Dark Wolf Pack." He explained.
My eyes went wide, and I gawked at him.
"You didn't know any of this, did you, boy?" He questioned.
I shook my head. I couldn't speak. I was confused and slightly irritated that I didn't know this.
"Well, it's not happening." My father growled. "If it means disobeying the vampire court then, so be it." He snapped.
My father turned to me and raised his brow. I sucked in a breath before turning to the king.
"I don't want the werewolf." I deadpanned. It felt like my insides were being ripped out.
The king nodded his head once before turning on his heel and zooming out of the house. "Well done, boy." My dad stated.
"Come now. We must get ready for Lenora's visit." He smiled what looked like a genuine smile, and I wanted to rip his throat out.
"One minute." I nodded.
He nodded and headed towards the kitchen. I went straight over to Celeste and pulled her into the hallway.
"Go to England, Devon. The Dark Wolf Pack... Find Lila. I have a shirt that smells like her... use the scent to track her and tell her everything. Tell her I was coming, and I want her. I need help, Cel. I can't do this on my own... Tell her she was right; we do this together. Tell her I believe what's in my heart... She'll know what you mean."
