|you know what|
“So... The keyring.” I laughed.
“Nope... Not having this conversation.” She groaned. I chuckled and bumped her shoulder with mine. I spotted the keyring before she hid it. I thought it was amusing.
We were strolling through the forest, following the map towards the house. The house her parents had built for her... A house for both of us to live in. I was completely astounded when they told us.
I’m still blown away at how welcoming they’ve been. There was no hostility towards me at all. I suppose they’ve had years to come to terms with a vampire joining their family.
“I still can’t get over how beautiful everything is around here,” I stated again as I looked around.
I peeped at Lila from the corner of my eyes. She looked nervous and like she wanted to say something. I stopped walking and stood in front of her. She sucked in her bottom lip, looking like she was about to cry. I frowned and swiped my thumb against her bottom.
“What’s wrong?” I asked.
She shook her head and dragged in a shaky breath. “Lila, you look like you’re about to pass out.” I sighed.
I followed her head as she tried her hardest to not look at me. “Come on... Tell me, what’s wrong?” I ordered calmly.
“I need to tell you about the prophecy.” She whined.
I sucked in a breath and nodded. I glanced around, looking for somewhere for us to sit. “Come on. We’ll sit over there by that tree.” I stated, pointing behind me towards the tree.
She nodded as we made our way over to the tree. We both sat down, Lila sagged against the tree, and I settled opposite her.
She looked like she was about to throw up. I reached out and grabbed her hands. “Breathe, Lila. Remember, we have each other. No matter what the prophecy says, I’ll be here.” I comforted her, squeezing her hand.
She choked back a sob and hid her face in her hands. I pried her hands from her face gently. “Lila, talk to me.” I pleaded.
“No, you won’t be here.” She choked. “You will sacrifice yourself for me!” She cried out.
I sucked in a breath and pulled her onto my lap. I wrapped my arms around her body as she clung to my shirt. Her body was shaking as she was crying.
I’m not exactly sure what she means, but I do get the gist of it. I’m going to die to make sure she lives. She’s my beloved; I’d do anything for her... If I have to give my life, so she has hers, then so be it.
I held onto her as her body gradually finished shaking, and the only sounds that were coming from her were whimpers and sniffling.
“The undoing began when Levi and Elias completed their bond together. When our bond has been completed, it will be the undoing of all our species.” She whispered. “It’s us that makes the prophecy come into play.” She whimpered.
I sat listening to her. She’s anxious; I could hear it in her voice. I didn’t know what to say to her. I haven’t known about the prophecy as she had. All I knew was my beloved was a wolf... She’s had this on her mind for years.
“Um, the vampire king will give me an offer. Apparently, it will be paramount to my survival.” She muttered. I pulled back to look at her, raising my brow.
“What offer?” I asked. She shrugged and shook her head. “I don’t know...” She sighed. “When the final battle comes, you will sacrifice yourself...” She hesitated, looking down at her hands. “Alarix, we will have one heir when it happens."
I sucked in a breath, closing my eyes. “A hybrid, Rix. A half-wolf, half-vampire... I can’t do any of this without you by my side.” She whimpered.
My eyes snapped open, and I gazed down at her. “Listen... Even though our future is very uncertain.” I took a deep breath before leaning down and pressing my lips to her forehead. “I will be there for you as long as I can.” I professed.
I placed chaste kisses down her face before landing on her mouth. I pressed my lips firmly against her as she sighed and wrapped her arm around my neck.
“We aren’t completing the bond any time soon, by the way.” She murmured against my lips.
I chuckled, leaning back. “We’ll go at your pace,” I reassured her as I brushed my fingers along her hair.
“Never if I have my way,” She muttered as she stood up. I raised my brow at her as I stood up. “Never?” I chuckled.
“Yes, never. The prophecy won’t play out if we don’t. It means I get you for longer.” She smirked.
I chuckled and bobbed my head. I can understand why she doesn’t want to. The longer we put off completing the bond, the more time we have together. Although we won’t experience the full-blown bond together, I’m happy to be with her.
“I agree.” I beamed at her. It’s going to take a whole lot of willpower to get through this.
“So, shall we go see our new house?” She grinned at me.
I nodded and smiled at her. She looked at the map before pulling me in the right direction. “So, what do you know about wolves?” She asked, glancing at me.
“Not a lot, really. I know the hierarchy of a pack... Well, mainly just the Alpha, Luna, Beta and Gamma.” I confessed.
“Ah, yes... My Uncle Wade is my dad’s Beta. We don’t have a Gamma, though.” She explained.
I nodded, entwining my fingers through hers. I’m intrigued about our different bonds... I know how our beloved bonds are completed; I don’t know about their mate bonds.
“Our bonds are the same, but how different are the bonds completed?” I questioned.
She glanced at me, raising her brow. “Tell me what happens with your beloved bonds?” She replied. “What would you have to do? Like, what happens?” She continued.
“Um... When we have, um, have you know what... I’d have to bite you, then feed on you. That would solidify our bond.” I answered awkwardly.
She giggled nervously, nodding at me. “Well, a wolf’s bond is completed by mating and marking each other.” She explained, peering at me shyly.
“Marking? Does that mean... What it sounds like?” I asked, raising my brows.
“Well, mating is, you know what... That would bond us together more. I would have to bite you to mark you that would complete the bond. You’d have a mark on your neck.” She retorted.
“Forever?” I asked. “I’d have a mark forever on my neck from you?” I added, smiling at her.
She’d mark me... I’d have a mark on my neck showing everyone that I’m hers. There would be no mark on her neck. There would be no proof or evidence that she is mated and taken and mine. The puncture wounds would heal no matter how many times I would bite.
“Yes, forever. Everyone would see you’re mine.” She grinned at me.
I beamed at her and nodded. "Also, once the bond is completed, we'd be able to mindlink." She smirked.
"Mindlink?" I questioned.
"We'd be able to communicate with each other through our minds... You'd have my voice in your head and vice versa." She chuckled.
"Wait... What?" I choked.
"You'll get used to it." She chuckled. "Look... Through there." She gasped, pointing ahead. I followed where she was pointing and gasped.
I stared at the huge cabin-like building. It was stunning and massive. "This is for us?" I whispered.
"This is our home." She replied, smiling lovingly up at me. She leaned up and wrapped her arms around my neck. "You ready for forever?" She smirked.
"I'm going to hold you to that." I exclaimed.
