Lila’s POV

I picked up the water bottle that was by my jacket. I twisted the cap off before gulping it down.

“As always, Lila, you bested me.” David keened, sat on the floor, clutching the side of his head.

I peered at him from the corner of my eyes with a sly smirk on my face. “You put up a good fight, nevertheless.” I chortled.

I picked up my jacket and tied it around my waist. After I had lunch with my mum, I needed to burn off some energy. I couldn’t sit around and wait for Alarix to get home... Though, that’s all I wanted to do.

I observed in admiration at all the warriors. Pride bubbled in my chest. They had all come so far. I’d trained fifteen warriors so far... They were all excelling.

“You’re an amazing trainer, Lila.” He beamed at me.

“You are a great warrior... A quick learner.” I countered with a smile.

He grinned at me, then bowed with a smirk. I snickered, shaking my head. “There are some new wolves arriving today for the centre... will you be meeting them?” He questioned.

I choked and shook my head. “No... I forgot.” I groaned, removing the hair tie and letting my hair fall loosely.

“That’s ok... Carson thought you would have, so he said he’d give the official greeting before they are arranged into their levels.” He returned.

I grinned and tittered. ” He’s never going to retire, is he?” I sighed. “At least he’s stopped with the extreme training.” I chuckled, rolling my eyes.

“No, the old wolf is persistent, but he and his brother started KS Guidance... That’s the only thing he has left of Caleb.” He exhaled wistfully.

I smiled sadly and nodded. “As long as he is happy and safe.” I stretched my arms above my head and yawned.

“I’m going to... go.” I yawned again.

“Go get some rest.” He chuckled.

I offered him a thumbs up and nodded before moping towards the packhouse. I was drained; my whole body was throbbing. I hadn’t done that much in training, so I don’t understand why I feel like I’ve done a three-hour intensive workout.

I arrived at the packhouse and headed inside. I’m going to go up to the Alpha’s quarters and use the guest suite. I can’t be dealing with the long trek to my house. I use the guest suite frequently. I left some bits for me in there, so it’s ideal in situations like these.

I wandered through the rear door into the kitchen. “Ah, Lila. How are you, my sweet?” Lilith, Elias’s mum, asked, smiling brilliantly at me.

“Drained,” I mumbled lethargically. I haven’t felt this worn out in ages.

She chortled and moved closer to me. “I heard the vampire finally revealed himself.” She remarked with a mischievous grin on her face.

I leaned against the wall and felt my cheeks warming. “He’s called Alarix King,” I explained.

My heart soared at the mention of his name. I closed my eyes and focused on our bond. I needed to feel him. I was swiftly overwhelmed with exhaustion. The tiredness I’m feeling is from him... He’s tired.

"Are you coming back yet?" I linked him. He isn’t going to tell them if he wants to come back. I don’t think he would even tell me he’s tired.

"On our way." He answered. He sounded so tired.

"I’m at the packhouse."

“You were just communicating with him.” She smirked. “You have the same look as your father has when he’s talking to your mother. I’m pleased you’ve finally found him.” She smiled.

“Me too,” I replied before giving her a brief wave and making my way to the stairs. I needed a shower and sleep. Hopefully, Alarix will be home any time now.

I hesitated at the bottom of the stairs and grumbled. I grimaced, staring at the stairs... There’s so many. I clutched each handrail and pulled myself up the stairs.

I huffed and stopped as I reached the third floor. I relaxed against the railing and closed my eyes. A few second breathers, and I’ll go on... Only a few further steps.

“Is our greatest warrior getting tired in her old age?”

A low growl slipped past my mouth as I gripped the rail tight to the point my knuckles turned white.

I glanced to the right of me and rolled my eyes. I had no energy whatsoever to deal with these.

The devil twins... Nellie and Nero Dantes.

We used to be friends years ago, but as they grew up, they became completely different. They were no longer the sweet, caring friends... They were rude and selfish. They don’t care about anyone but themselves.

I’ll give Nero credit... He’s a remarkable warrior, but that is precisely all he has working for him. Nellie couldn’t cut it as a warrior. She didn’t take too kindly to being ordered around.

“Lila, you’re looking as sexy as ever,” Nero smirked.

I scoffed and stood up straight before groaning and turning to walk away. I froze as Nellie spoke. “Nero... You do realize what her mate is, right?” I couldn’t see her, but I could hear the smirk in her voice.

“Doesn’t matter to me.” He cackled. “He’s a little sheep surrounded by wolves.” He added. I clenched my fists and gritted my teeth together. They were trying to provoke me, but I wasn’t going to give them what they wanted.

I continued walking towards the stairs, ignoring them. A hand grasped my arm, and another settled on my ass. I whirled around, and my hand immediately wrapped around his neck. I moved my leg behind his and shoved him forward, knocking him over.

“Don’t fucking touch me.” I hissed.

A vicious snarl sounded around us. I knew who it was. I felt him as soon as he crossed the border. He must have sensed my emotions and ran here.

I didn’t take my hand away from Nero’s throat. He was sputtering for air. His face turning a lovely shade of purple. I wasn’t going to do any serious damage... I just wanted him to know I wasn’t playing around. He couldn’t go around touching things that didn’t belong to him.

“Lila, stop! You’re going to kill him.” Nellie screamed.

“If she doesn’t, I sure as hell will.” Alarix snapped.

I glanced up. Nellie was frozen; her face had faltered. I directed my gaze behind her and locked eyes with Alarix. His eyes were blazing, his fangs were showing, and he was flaring his nostrils.

I leapt up, freeing Nero, and lunged at Alarix. As soon as I was in arms reach of him, he snaked his arms around my back and crushed me against him.

“If I ever see you lay a hand on Lila again, I’ll crush every bone in your body... got it?” Alarix growled.

Nellie reached her hand out in front of Nero. He slapped his hand against hers as she helped him up. He nodded hurriedly, and his eyes flitted to the ground. He looked embarrassed. Nellie had her eyes focused on me with a scowl on her face.

“Now, fuck off.” He grumbled. They both scampered down the stairs without glancing backwards.

“You’re amazing,” he breathed, peering down at me. I shrugged and chuckled. “You’re unbelievably strong. His neck has bruised already; I could see it.” He commented.

“I’m a warrior, baby,” I smirked.

“Where to, my warrior?” He winked.

I grinned and pointing above me. “Next floor,” I answered.

I spun around to go towards the stairs, but before I could move, he hooked his arm under my legs and swept me off my feet. He cradled me to his chest as I draped my arms around his neck.

“I can walk, you know.” I laughed before reaching up and planting a kiss against his cheek.

He shuddered and tightened his arms. “This is better, though,” he grinned. “Hold on.” He quipped.

He darted towards the staircase, and before I knew it, we were standing in the hallway of the Alpha’s quarters. I blinked a few times, gazing up at him in amazement.

“I can’t get over how fast you are.” I drawled. “I’m quick in my wolf’s form, but you’re something else.” I snickered. “The last door on the right,” I directed, pointing down the hallway.

He trudged down the hallway, keeping his arms securely around me. “I’ll be slow in situations that matter.” He smirked.

I sucked in a gasp and went rigid in his arms. I’m not certain what he meant by that... But that statement went straight to my core. He chuckled huskily before halting in front of the guest suite door.

“Calm down, Lila... Your heart is going crazy.” He whispered. “Don’t worry. I’m too sleepy to make a move on you.” He yawned.

I shook my head and took a deep breath. My stomach was still fluttering, and his scent was making me feel dizzy. “I know... I know you’re tired. Your emotions were projecting into me. I can sense your tiredness.” I sighed.

“Can you feel all emotions?” He asked, raising his eyebrow.

I nodded, dragging my bottom lip between my teeth. He was aroused; I could feel his desire. “If you focus... You can feel my emotions too.” I whispered.

He closed his eyes and inhaled deeply. His eyes popped open large, and he chuckled awkwardly. “Yeah... I can sense it.” He grumbled.

I squirmed against him until he let me go. “I’m going to get a quick shower, so I can get some sleep before King Darius arrives. We both need rest.” I remarked as I nudged open the door and went into the bedroom.

He followed me inside, scanning his eyes over the room. “Why is he coming again?” He asked, pausing by the bed.

I opened the bathroom door and glanced back at him as he sat on the end of the bed. “Well, now that you are here, it’s only a matter of time before the undoing will begin...” I replied nervously. “He probably wants to talk about what happens now.” I shrugged.

He nodded before tumbling back on the bed. “Don’t wait for me... You go to sleep. I’ll climb in next to you when I’m done.” I professed as I closed the door behind me.
