I leaned back on the porch swing in our private garden. Alarix was sitting by a little pond with our daughter.
She is beautiful, a vision of her father; long, black silky hair with mesmerizing dark eyes.
They both stood up and sauntered towards me, laughing with each other. “Mum, are you sure they’re coming?” She asked.
“Yes, of course. They’ll be here real soon.” I answered, smiling.
“Even Uncle Athan and Auntie Celeste? Uncle Levi and Uncle Elias?” She probed.
I chuckled and rose from the swing. “Sweetie, they wouldn’t miss your first shift.” I smiled warmly at her.
"Come on, squirt.” Alarix ushered her towards the door. “It’s almost time for school.”
“I hate been called Ashlyn.” She sighed, rolling her eyes.
“It’s not going to be forever. You know how sacred your identity is, Alora.” I affirmed.
“I know, Mum. I’m still a threat.” She whispered.
“You are not a threat, Alora. The rogue army feels threatened because you are stronger than any of them and us. You are your mum and me... You are a wolf and a vampire. Never feel ashamed about that.” Alarix declared.
“We’ll always keep you safe,” I vowed as Alarix wrapped his arms around us both.
“We did it, my queen... we made it. We survived.” Alaris whispered, planting a kiss on my head.
“Vos magistes, vos familles sont arrivées.” (Your majesties, your families have arrived.)
I jolted awake, sitting upright. Tears were pooling in my eyes. The dream seemed so real. It showed me what our future could have been if it weren’t for this damn prophecy.
“Are you ok?” Alarix asked, smoothing my hair out.
I know I went into shock when Melanie told us. Now I want to spend whatever time we have, training and spending time with Alarix, not being sad or angry.
I need to put on a brave front. If I break down, no one will treat me normal. Yes, everyone, including me, are terrified, and occasionally we might need a good cry, but I want to make the most of our time left.
“I had a dream.” I inhaled deeply. “It seemed so real.” I insisted.
I glanced around, blinking a few times. “This isn’t our room or the guest room we used.” I drawled.
“You were in shock, and your dad said to bring you to this room... it’s next to his office.” He answered.
I dragged in shaky breaths, trying to shake the dream off. “Do you want to talk about it?” He questioned, sitting up, rubbing his hand up and down my back.
“We were in a garden. There was you, me and... and our daughter.” I replied, twirling my fingers around the blanket.
He sucked in a sharp breath but stayed quiet. “We named her Alora, but when she attended school, she was called Ashlyn.” I took a deep breath. “The threat wasn’t over, but we survived... We lived in France.” I remarked.
I peered over my shoulder at him. He was holding his breath, clenching his fists together. I turned to look at him and placed my hand over his. I shook him gently, “Hey, it was just a dream.” I chuckled.
“What if it wasn’t a dream?” He mumbled. “I had a sister called Alora... she died when she was younger.” He whispered.
“I’m so sorry,” I sighed sadly.
“It’s ok... Well, it’s not ok, but it was a long time ago.” He muttered. “It just shocked me to hear her name... Probably just a dream, as you said.” He nodded.
“If we were to have a pup... if our future wasn’t so...” I shook my head and dragged in a shaky breath. “It was just a dream. I don’t have premonitions or anything.” I responded. “It was just a cruel dream.”
Alarix hummed, snaking his arm around my waist, pressing his chest against my back. “How are you feeling?” He murmured against my neck before brushing his lips against his mark.
I gasped, a small moan escaping as I pulled my bottom lip between my teeth. I lolled my head against his shoulder. I felt him smirk against my neck as he gripped my waist tighter.
“I’m... ok.” I breathed.
“Are you sure you’re ready for this?” He whispered cautiously. “King, queen, France...” He drawled.
“Not even a little bit.” I sighed.
He moved my head to look at him as he planted his lips over mine. His tongue swiped against mine. I moaned, reached up and tangled my fingers through his hair as his tongue found mine.
I was panting, breathing heavily as I pushed my body against his. His hand rubbed along my neck. He grazed his fingers along my collarbone, over my breasts before slowly trailing them over my stomach.
“Alarix,” I moaned against his mouth.
He grazed his fingers along the band of my trousers. I breathed in, jerking my hips up slightly. He slipped his fingers inside, “open your legs, baby.” He groaned in my ear.
I pushed back against him, letting my legs fall open. He shoved his hand further into my panties, sliding his finger between my folds.
“Oh.” I gasped, arching my back.
“Wet for me already.” He growled before delving his tongue into my mouth. He lightly touched his finger against my clit.
“Please...” I panted.
He growled and pushed a finger into my heat. “Is this what you want?” He moaned. “So warm and wet...”
I tugged on his hair as my breathing became more erratic. “Yes, yes.” I panted.
I grabbed his hand and sat up abruptly. ”Lila, we need you downstairs." Dad’s voice appeared in my head.
“Fuck, I forgot to shut the link down.” I groaned as Alarix removed his hand. “Dad wants us,” I explained.
“Got it.” He nodded with a smirk on his face.
“I’m just going to clean up in the bathroom... so they can’t smell anything.” I cringed.
He nodded. “I’ll do the same.” He chuckled.
“I need to go to my parent’s house and pack.” I stood up and stretched before going towards the bathroom. “I’ll need to gather my things from the room on the Alpha’s quarters.” I glanced back.
Packing up everything is going to be hard. I’m going to have to leave my parents behind... my family, my pack. I’m going to be surrounded by vampires.
Holy fuck... Me and Levi going to be the only wolves there.
He stood up, nodding. “I’ll help once we’re done here. You don’t have to do everything alone.” He sighed.
“I’m going to the fucking slaughterhouse!” I squealed, gawking at him.
He raised his brow, pressing his lips in a thin line, trying to suppress a chuckle. I could see it in his eyes; he was amused.
“I’m one little wolf... There’s going to be a kingdom full of vampires.” I grunted. “I’m going to be eaten alive.” I shrilled.
He spluttered a chuckle before bursting into a fit of giggles. “Lila, you’re going to be their queen. I think you’ll be surprised at how welcoming they’ll be.” He chuckled. “Plus, I’m a vampire... They’ll have to get through me first.” He declared.
I took a deep breath and exhaled dramatically. “Don’t worry, beautiful.” He smiled.
"Lila, are you ok? You didn’t answer your dad." Mum asked.
"Yes. Sorry, we’ll be there soon." I replied.
“We need to get a move on. My mum has mind linked me.” I commented before walking into the bathroom.
After sorting ourselves out, we went up to the guest room. I quickly packed what little I had before we headed downstairs.
“King Darius will be here in twenty-five minutes. He wants to speak with you, Alarix.” Dad addressed Alarix as soon as we stepped into the living room.
“Oh, I’m not going to have time to pack.” I sighed sadly. “I want to let Lola out before we leave. I won’t go far, just around the packhouse.” I stated. Alarix gripped my hand and squeezed. He was silently letting me know he was coming with me.
“We’ll sort your things and send you them,” Dad responded.
“I don’t need everything. Just the essentials and my photos.” I remarked.
“I’ll sort it.” Dad proclaimed.
I glanced beside my dad after smiling at him. Mum was sat in the armchair with her hands knobbed together. She was focused on the floor, her bottom lip trembling.
“Hold on. We’ll go in a minute.” I whispered to Alarix before glancing over at Mum.
He gave me a gentle smile, bobbing his head once. I went over to Mum and kneeled in front of her. “Mum?” I whispered, placing my hands over hers.
She shook her head and sniffled before gazing at me. “Oh, my baby, are you ok?” She asked, leaving forward and squeezing my hands.
“Are you ok, mum?” I asked.
“Don’t worry about me, darling.” She muttered. “Go. You must get ready to... leave.” She whimpered.
I gasped, jumping up and wrapping my arms around her. “Thank you,” I whispered.
“For what?” She chuckled sadly.
“For choosing to be my mum.” I whimpered.
She pulled away slightly, scanning my eyes. “Baby, you gave me everything I never knew I needed.” She professed. “You and your brother,” she held her hand out towards Levi.
I glanced at Levi. Elias kissed Levi on his cheek before Levi came over to us and kneeled next to me. Mum took hold of both of our hands.
“You’re both my greatest treasure.” She expressed. “I love you both so much.” She snivelled.
“We love you, too.” We both replied together.
“I’ll miss you.” Levi whimpered.
Mum wrapped her arms around us and wept. I stroked my hand up and down her back and sighed.
She leaned back and smiled sadly at us. She brushed her nose against Levi’s, then the same on mine. “You’re both so strong.” She smiled wearily.
I stood up and took a deep breath. Dad laid his hand on my shoulder and a hand on Levi’s. “Remember, twenty-five minutes.” He sighed, squeezing our shoulders.
I placed my hand over dad’s and smiled. He gave me a tight smile before dropping his hand. Levi went back over to Elias and snuggled into his side. Alarix stepped beside me, curling his hand around mine. I glanced at him and smiled. He nodded as we moved towards the kitchen.
“Before you shift, I need to talk to you.” He murmured.
