Alarix’s POV.

When we neared the castle, I tugged Lila back to give us some privacy. “I need to tell you something,” I whispered as she glanced at me.

She turned to me completely and raised her brow. “What’s wrong?” She asked.

“When you linked me, I was with King Darius. He knows what our marks are,” I replied. “He is getting someone to come to the castle. Apparently, we need to speak to them.” I added.

King Darius seemed pretty certain he knew why we had the crest. He wouldn’t say why or how he knew... he said was when I meet this person; I will instantly know. Why say something to me in the first place if he’s not going to tell me?

King Darius loves speaking in riddles and not telling us exactly what is going on.

Her eyes widened as she gasped. “Why didn’t you tell me?” She yelled in a whisper, swatting my arm.

“We needed to help Levi first... That could wait.” I sighed.

“When are we meeting this mystery person?” She questioned as we continued walking.

“No idea.” I sighed. “Soon, I hope.”

We reached the castle as Levi peered over his shoulder, “You coming?” He asked.

“Go ahead. We’ll be in soon.” Lila called out before turning to face me. I smiled at Levi with a nod before looking down at Lila.

She shuffled awkwardly on her feet, avoiding eye contact with me. I chuckled, holding her face and making her look directly at me.

“You know...because we aren’t dying... do you... do you...” She hesitated and took a deep breath. “Baby.” She blurted.

A smile spread across my face, and I chuckled softly. “Do you still want a baby, now?" She muttered.

I brushed my thumbs along her cheeks before planting a chaste kiss on her lips. “I want what you want; however, fast you want it,” I expressed.

Her eyes flashed to black before fading back to brown. I raised my brow at her as she roamed her eyes down my body. “I know your answer wasn’t technically sexual, but my goddess did that sound fucking enticing.” She smirked once her eyes landed back on mine.

I grinned at her, shaking my head. “Later,” I winked. I pushed a loose hair behind her ear and took a deep breath. “I know we haven’t known each other for long, but I feel like I’ve known you forever with all of your memories embedded in my mind. If you want to have a baby now, I want it too.” I smiled.

She nodded her head, and a breathtaking smile spread across her face. “We’ll see what happens.” She murmured, wrapping her arms around my back, snuggling into my chest.

I hummed, resting my head on top of hers. “Shall we go see if the king will tell us more about the crest? Or if the person has arrived?” I asked.

She sighed, nodding her head, still pushing herself against me. “In a minute, though.” She mumbled.

I nuzzled my face into her hair and pulled her as close as I could get her. “I feel so sorry for both Levi and Elias, but I am so glad we were meant for each other.” She whispered.

I hooked my finger under her chin, lifting her gaze to mine. “I love you,” I breathed before brushing my lips against hers gently.

She stumped in my embrace, moaning as she pressed her lips harder into the kiss. I curled my arm around her back and settled my other hand on her neck.

I swiped my tongue across her bottom lip as she groaned. She parted her lips with a little gasp as I slid my tongue into her mouth and deepened the kiss.

She pushed her hands into my back pockets and squeezed my ass as she rubbed her centre against mine. As the kiss quickly got heated and our breathing became erratic, I pulled away.

I rested my forehead on hers, taking in deep breaths trying to regulate my breathing. “As much as I would love to continue this, we need to go inside before I can’t hold back,” I mumbled breathlessly.

“Later,” I promised again before detaching myself completely from her. I pulled her towards the castle, despite her digging her heels into the ground.

I peered back at her, chuckling, shaking my head. “If I have to throw you over my shoulder and march you back to the castle, believe me, I will.” I glared playfully.

“You wouldn’t dare.” She quipped with a glint of amusement in her eyes.

I spun around and hoisted her up and over my shoulder. I laid my hand on her ass and squeezed as she giggled.

The sound was like music to my ears. She doesn’t often relax and enjoy herself. Since I first met her, we have been fighting or planning. We haven’t had a real chance to enjoy each other. Now, maybe, we can. We can enjoy ourselves without the dampener of one of us dying.

She slapped my back and wiggled around in my hold. “Put me down! Rix, fuck sake, I’ll walk.” She squealed.

“No can do, babe.” I snickered, gently swatting my hand against her ass.

Her nails dug into my back as her breathing hitched. “Don’t do things like that.” She groaned. I swatted her ass again, eliciting a breathy moan from her. “Rix... we are in public, fucking stop it.” She hissed.

I chuckled, wrapping my hands around her legs. “You’re right... save it for the bedroom.” I chuckled.

“Rix, everyone is staring.” She complained as I strolled through castle grounds. “We are supposed to be their king and queen... we aren’t exactly setting a good example.” She scoffed.

I waved at the few vampires that were standing around. They were chuckling, shaking their heads in amusement. I beamed at them as I continued towards the door.

“We are still allowed to have fun.” I chuckled.

She grumbled before pulling back and planting a wet kiss on my cheek. I let her slide down my body, planting her feet on the ground.

“Come on, beautiful.” I linked my fingers through hers before we made our way to the door.

Lila opened the door before gesturing her head for me to enter first. I raised my brow at her as I chuckled, “Shouldn’t it be the other way around?”

“Age before beauty, my darling.” She winked as I stepped through the threshold.

I threw my head back, laughing. “Well, you’re older than me… Grandad.” She smirked.

“I’ll show you old later.” I quipped.

“Alarix, Lila, you’re back.” Adeline blurted, standing at the bottom of the grand staircase. “King Darius is waiting for you in the throne room.” She announced.

“Thank you, Adeline,” I nodded with a smile.

She curtsied before scurrying off towards the kitchen. “Do you know where the throne room is?” Lila asked, tapping me on the arm.

I nodded and led her down the side of the grand staircase. “I was in there with him earlier. You’ll love it.” I answered.

Once we reached the double doors to the throne room, I knocked and waited for King Darius to answer.

“Come in,” he called out.

I opened the door, gesturing for Lila to go ahead first. She stepped inside, darting her eyes around as she looked around the throne room.

I could hear her little gasps as she took in the gold and red decor. She examined each portrait, taking in all the details. I was so busy watching Lila’s reaction to everything that I completely missed the two people standing at the back of the throne room behind King Darius.

I glanced at Lila as she was looking at the portraits again. “Lila,” I whispered, trying to get her attention.

She continued wandering around the room, completely oblivious. “Let her look around; it’s ok.” King Darius chuckled.

“Are these the people you wanted us to meet?” I questioned, motioning my head to behind him.

Lila spun around, her eyes landing on the man and woman standing by a portrait hung on the wall.

“Why didn’t you tell me there were other people in here?” Lila whispered as she came and stood next to me. “That was so incredibly rude of me.” She grumbled.

“Oh, he tried, Lila, but you were too engrossed in this room.” The king tittered.“It’s ok, though. We understand. This room can be mesmerizing.” He sighed, craning his neck and looking around the room.

A cough echoed throughout the room as someone cleared their throat. My eyes snapped to the man and woman who were now standing beside the king.

“Oh, Alarix, Lila, I would like you to meet Alaric and Rosa.” The king introduced them as they were darting their eyes all over me.

Alaric was staring at me; his gaze was scrutinizing and intense. For something that should have made me feel uncomfortable, it didn’t feel like that at all. I felt a connection to him, and I couldn’t work out why.

“It took me a while to figure it out, but I finally put all the pieces together. It was your mark that did it...” King Darius sighed. “I think I’ve always unconsciously known... I was drawn to you when I first saw you, I thought it was because of the prophecy, but now I know it wasn’t.” He added.

“Oh, I’m flattered, but I’m taken, Your Majesty,” I smirked.

He quietly chuckled, shaking his head. “Your fighting style mimics Alaric’s. Your whole temperament and the way you carry yourself is Alaric too. Even your bloody name... I can’t believe I didn’t work it out.” He groaned. “I told you about the previous king and queen losing their child... Well, I didn’t know the whole story...”

I linked my fingers through Lila’s as I took a deep breath. I have an idea what he was hinting at... I’m the lost son... I held my breath as Alaric stepped forward.

“For this to make sense, you need to know Rosa is my chosen beloved. I marked Rosa, severing all ties with Carmel. Because I’m a royal, I can take as many chosen beloveds as I desire, just not at the same time.” Alaric started.

I hacked as I choked on my breath. Carmel? My mother is called Carmel... “Please, let me continue before you speak.” He pleaded.

Carmel was my beloved. Everything was great at the beginning, or at least I thought it was. When she fell pregnant, she decided I wasn’t enough for her. She didn’t want the royal life.

She wanted to be with someone else. She had found someone who could give her a normal life. Before she left, we made sure the baby she was carrying was mine. I told her she could leave. I wouldn’t bother her again; I just wanted my son.

She came back a few months later with my baby. I didn’t think she would, but she said her new beloved didn’t want a royal vampire in his house. I was happy; he was all I ever wanted. She asked me to name him Theodoric, so I did. She disappeared out of our lives pretty much straight away.

I met Rosa when Theo was one. She doted on him, we quickly fell in love and brought Theo up together. We were the perfect little family until Carmel came back. Her beloved already had two children, and she wanted hers... I told her she couldn’t, that she could see him at the castle, but she didn’t want that.

She disappeared again for a few weeks until there was an attack on the castle. By the time I saw her with him, she had vanished. She took him, and I never saw him again... Until now.

“We never thought we would see you again… Twenty years later, and here you are, standing in front of us a fully grown man.” Rosa smiled.

“So Lawrence isn’t my father?” I gasped. “You’re my father?” I choked.

I didn’t know what to think or how to feel? My parents weren’t exactly the best... So knowing Lawrence isn’t my father doesn’t really hurt. In fact, I’m ecstatic.

If I honestly think about it, I never really fit in, not with that family. I was different. I knew I was, and so did they. I don’t understand why my mother didn’t just leave me with Alaric and Rosa. I seemed like a burden to them... I would have had a far better life, and I definitely would have found Lila sooner.

Alaric shook his head and sighed. “Carmel changed your name to Alarix… which is a far better choice, I think.” He grinned. “You have the royal crest mark because you are the rightful heir to the throne.”

“Are you ok?” Lila whispered.

I glanced down at her and nodded my head. “I’m good, babe,” I promised.

“You seem to be taking this really well, Alarix.” King Darius mentioned, raising his brow at me.

“The way things have been the past few days, I think I was expecting it, to be honest.” I chuckled. “Yes, I’m a little peeved at what my mother has done, but I would rather not dwell on things we can’t change and just get to know each other.” I smiled shyly at Alaric.

He nodded as a huge grin spread across his face. “I would love nothing more than that,” he replied.

“Well, Lila and I have to get ready for this ceremony tomorrow...” I sighed. “Would you stay?” I asked, rubbing the back of my neck awkwardly.

“It would be my absolute honour to watch you be crowned king.” He sniffled. “Your beloved is a stunning young woman. You will both make fantastic rulers.” He added.

“You don’t have a problem with me being a wolf?” Lila questioned.

He shook his head and smiled sweetly at her. “We know about the prophecy, Lila. Darius filled us in.” Rosa answered. “We love that Th-Alarix has true love.”

I do. I have the truest, rarest kind of love you can get. Lila completes me in ways I never thought possible. Tomorrow we get to start the rest of our lives together.

It’s us against the world... Lila, Lola and I.
