Chapter 1

"Atta girl! Nice job princess," my father exclaimed with a proud smile as I punch his padded hands.

"Thanks dad! Can we go again!" I exclaimed excitedly.

"Not today. I've prepared you two lunch," my mother said, kissing my father on the cheek.

"Okay momma!" I said hugging them both, "let me wash up. I'll be down soon," I said while walking out of the gym.

As I walk down the stairs after my brief shower I hear faint laughter of my mother and father from the kitchen.

"So momma what did you make?" I asked as I sat down at the table across from my parents watching as their smiles grew bigger.

"I made you..."

I jolt awake. I quickly look around only to realize it was a dream. I take a shaky breath as I silently burst into tears. I sit there as my whole body shakes from the sadness erupting inside me. It has been only a month since my parents died. I had to move in with my aunt. She was my mothers eldest sister.

She has two sons and a daughter. They were all older than me. Jeremy was the oldest he was in his early 30's and had a wife and a baby on the way. Kai is in his mid to late 20's. Then there was Capala. She was the closest to my age. She was 23. We were all always so close. They’re like my siblings.

They all had pity towards me since my parents died and I hated that. It was like they were constantly walking on eggshells like one wrong move and I would explode. I have been known for my anger. But it makes me feel like a kid and they basically do everything for me. Except for Capala she always finds a way to cheer me up. She doesn't pity me. She takes me out to clubs and parties to distract me and it works until I fall asleep.

Every night I have dreams of them. Of my parents every night I dream of all our memories. Like flashbacks but I only see their faces at night. When they first died I stayed in bed all day trying to fall asleep just to see them again. To hear them call my name. To hear their laughs echo throughout the now empty halls. Soon after, Capala got tired of seeing me miserable in my room so she started to take me out almost every night.

I finally peel myself from my warm comforting bed making my way to the bathroom. I take a shower to wash my tear stained cheeks. After my quick shower I get dressed in my usual black jeans and a baggy tee. I brush my hair and shake it loose. I head downstairs for breakfast. As I reach the kitchen I am met with an overly excited Capala.

"IDONA GUESS WHAT!!" Capala loudly exclaimed for being only a few feet from me.

It is too early for this.

I was debating turning around, running back to my room, and locking the door.

"What Capala? What happened?" I breathed out knowing she would break my door down if I locked her out.

"We got invited to a party tonight," she said, jumping around in excitement.

"Oh cool where is it?" I said laughing at her excitement.

"It's at a super fancy club," she walked towards me grabbing my hand looking at me with puppy dog eyes.

"Please say you'll come with me," she said, looking as if I said no her heart would shatter.

"Of course I'll go with you silly," I said while squeezing her hands in comfort, "I need a distraction anyways," I say trying not to burst into tears thinking of the dream I had this morning.

"Another dream?" Capala asks sincerely, pulling me towards her for a hug. I rest my head on her shoulder and sigh, holding back my tears.

"Yes but I don’t wanna talk about it," I say as I pull back. She smiles a sympathetic smile and nods, "so when is the party?" I asked, changing the subject.

"It's at 10 tonight," she says, her eyes shining from excitement. I walk over to the fridge to make me and her an iced coffee as she tells me about the party and who's gonna be there. I hand her a glass of coffee and we head out back to the garden to sit at a little round white table that has rose bushes surrounding it acting as though it's a fence guarding them.

Hours pass by, Doing my normal everyday things. I hang out around the house till I have to go to work. My shift usually ends at 8. I immediately headed home dragging myself upstairs to my room. Too tired to pay attention to anything besides my bed. I don't realize Capala standing in my closet shuffling through my clothes.

"Idona! get over here and help me pick out your outfit for tonight!" I jump as I hear Capala's stern voice. I let out a loud sigh and drag myself over to my fully raided wardrobe.

"Honestly I think I should just give you something out of my closet," Capala says as she puts my clothes back on the hanger.

I protest against Capala's offer but I immediately fail. Not even a second later Capala makes her way back into my room with a couple of outfits folded in her hands. She lays them out on the bed. Three different colors all short and revealing. There's a light blue one, a pink one, and a black one. My eyes immediately fall on the black one. I pick it up and move in front of my mirror holding the short dress up to my chest.

Capala comes up behind me and rests her hands on my shoulders, "You look stunning in that Idona."

I watched through the mirror as Capala turned and walked over to my desk and grabbed a long velvet box, "I was going to give this to you on your birthday but it would go perfectly with this dress," Capala smiles.

Swiftly, she walks back to where I stood. Capala slides the necklace around my neck. As the cold metal slides across my chest, I pick my hair up so she can clasp the necklace. She sets her hands back on my shoulders and smiles at me through the mirror.

"It's gorgeous! Thank you so much Capala," I say, turning around and hugging Capalla tearing up slightly.

"You're welcome. Now go take a shower so we can eat before we leave," Capala says, tickling my sides, making me burst into laughter.

"Fine, fine-...just please-...stop tickling me," I say between laughs trying to catch my breath.

I make my way to the bathroom, I hear Capala giggle as she leaves my room. After my shower, I throw on a baggy shirt and shorts so my hair can dry. I walk downstairs where I hear Capala shuffling around in the kitchen. I walk in to see a rushed Capala fixing something for both of us to eat.

“Whatcha making Capala?” I ask while sitting at the island in the center of the kitchen.

“Just some sandwiches,” Capala answers as she turns towards me with two plates in her hand, she sets a plate in front of me. We both eat while talking about the party.

After we finish eating we both head up to Capala’s room. I sit on my phone while Capala does my hair, straightening it. After Capala’s done she moves onto hers. I walk over to the bathroom and change into the small, backless, black dress that shows off my tattoos on my shoulder and down my back. I fix my hair so it frames my face better and adds some small earrings.

Soon after Capala walks into the bathroom wearing a short dark blue dress with curled hair that was half up half down.

“You look amazing,” we both say at the same time. Laughing afterward. We both do our makeup so it matches our dresses.

Few minutes later we both exit the bathroom. Capala set out a pair of black high heels for me. I slip them on and buckle them at my ankles. I stand up and walking back to my room, Capala following behind me. I grab my purse and everything I need. We both exit and walk down the stairs. Capala grabs her car keys and we make our way to Capala’s car.

20 minutes later we walked into the club. I look around looking for any familiar faces but I find none. Capala walks toward the bar and I follow. Soon later a group of people comes up greeting Capala. I look over and see Capala’s best friend and a couple of her other friends. I smile as Capala introduces me to them.

An hour passed, Capala and I had made our way to the middle of the dance floor sharing smiles. “I'm gonna go get us more drinks, okay?” I say, trying to talk over the loud music. Capala nods and I make my way to the bar.

While waiting for the drinks I felt a hand grab my wrist. Out of shock, I yank my wrist out of the unknown grasp. I turned to see an old bald guy maybe in his 40’s standing there with the ugliest smirk on his face.

“Hey baby, why don't you come with me?” The creep once again reached for me this time trying to grab my hips. I immediately take a step back thinking of a way to get away from him.

“Uhhh no thanks, I'm good,” I say, getting ready to punch this creep if I have to. The old guy leans closer to me. Getting entirely too close. I immediately smack him as hard as I could, sending him back a little. I make my way back to Capala to get away from the guy completely forgetting about our drinks.

“Hey girl, where's our drinks?” Capala says dancing. She notices my worried face and stops dancing, “What's wrong?” she asks worriedly.

“Some creep grabbed me and tried to get me to go with him but I took care of him,” I say, smirking at Capala. Capala giggles and grabs my hand bringing me towards her.

We continue dancing. I notice a tall man coming closer. He looks like a security guard. He's dressed in an all-black suit with an earpiece and sunglasses. Sunglasses? In a club? A little extra if you ask me. He walks up to us and we stop dancing watching him carefully.

“Sorry to disturb you ladies but would you follow me?” he asks, looking straight at me. Confused, I point towards me and he nods.

“May I ask what for sir?” I asked.

What if it's about the creep I slapped earlier.

“My boss would like to meet you,” he says politely.

“Umm, I suppose,” I say cautiously, not knowing what's to come. I look at Capala who was with her friends. I follow the guard to a small room with a purple curtain covering the entry of the room. We enter the small velvet room with 3 very attractive men sitting around a small table. They all had drinks in their hands.

“Here she is boss,” the security guard says, stepping off to the side allowing me to see all 3 of the men sitting there staring at me. One of the men immediately caught my attention. He was extremely handsome.

“Umm why did you-” I began but was immediately interrupted by the one I was unknowingly staring at.

“Sit,” he demands as he gestures to the seat in front of him. I hesitate, the feeling of rage starting to bubble. I absolutely hate being told what to do. Especially by a stranger. Even if he is an extremely handsome stranger.

“I'm good,” I answer, trying to control my anger while clenching my fists. The other two men on the sides of him scoff as though they were surprised. He stands up, not breaking our eye contact. As he stood up it hit me of how large he is. He has dark black hair, dark grey eyes that scream power and dominance. I get nervous but immediately hide it not wanting to show any weakness towards this man.

“I don't even know you and you think you can tell me what to do?” I ask, I feel as though I just challenged the devil himself. His presence made me feel weak. His eyes filled with rage burning a hole straight through me.

He signals to the other men and they both simultaneously get up and walk towards me. I prepare for anything but nothing happens. They walk right past me, both of their colognes hitting my nose.

As the curtain closes the very handsome man walks up to me. The closer he gets the faster my heart beats against my chest. He gets so close to me our bodies are almost touching. Leaning forward he tucks my hair behind my ear. I slightly flinch at his touch. He smirks, feeling my response.

“Would you like to sit?” he says sternly. He backs up walking back over to his original spot sitting back down watching me.

I let out the breath I was apparently holding. I hesitate again in confusion. He wasn’t demanding this time but his voice was still as stern and powerful as last time. I slowly walk towards the chair, I slowly sit keeping my confident demeanor.

“Can I at least know your name?” I ask, my eyes never leaving his as I adjust myself in the chair. He stares at me, an almost evil smirk appearing on his face.

“Nex” he says. Even his name is hot and powerful.

I shiver at his name. I quickly shake off the feeling, still keeping eye contact with him.

“Idona,” I say, trying to sound as powerful as him attempting to hide the fact that my confidence is slowly breaking. He doesn't seem to notice and smirks at the confidence in my voice.

“Lovely name, Idona” he says, my name rolls so smoothly off his tongue. I shift in my seat as butterflies erupt in my stomach.

“Thank you, Nex,” I replied, sending him a small soft smile.

“I saw you at the bar with some bald creep,” he said, “at first I thought he was your boyfriend or something until I saw you smack the shit out of him,” he says with an amused smirk on his face.

He noticed me? Wow.

“Uh yeah , he was trying to grab on me to go somewhere with him,” I explained. Nex remained silent like he was trying to figure something out but he looked almost angry.

“Hey, my cousin’s out there and she's probably looking for me,” I say worried about Capala, “if you want you could join us,” I offer not wanting this to be the end of our conversation.

He laughs and walks towards me, extending his hand as an acceptance of my offer. I take his hand as he leads me out of the small room and onto the dance floor. I catch up to Capala and talk with her while we dance. Capala makes her way back to her friends and I feel a certain presence behind me. Strong hands land softly on my hips and pull me closer to him. I feel a very sculpted torso press against my back. His hands slowly guide my hips to sway and we dance together.

I turn to face Nex and wrap my arms around his neck as we look into each other's eyes. I lean my head forward and rest it on his chest as we continue dancing. Suddenly he lightly grabs my chin making me look up at him.

I felt a sudden urge of confidence probably from all the alcohol. I slowly leaned up, placing a kiss on Nex’s lips. Realizing what I did I immediately pulled away. Nex gripped my chin, forcing me to look at him. He stares into my eyes and leans back in kissing me again.

I can't believe I kissed someone I just met. He could be a serial killer and I wouldn't know. Everything around me was blurry except for him. His powerful eyes never left mine as we danced the rest of the night.
