24: It'll be alright
Chapter 24: It’ll be alright
I sat heard the car pull up and looked at Ty, Val, and Adam who were all still packing things. I was sitting on my suitcase waiting since I was already ready this morning so waiting got boring an hour ago. Matt beeped the horn and their heads popped up quickly and they all looked at me.
I chuckled and got off my suitcase and brought it out to the car so I could tell them they would need a few more minutes. Matt got out the truck and opened the bed of it and took my suitcase and put it in there.
“Where are the others?”
I smiled and pointed back at the house. “They are still getting packed. They need a couple more minutes.”
He nodded then we got into the truck and I laid my head against the head rest and looked at the house. “So how’s the baby?”
Matt said trying to kill the awkward silence between us. “It’s fine. The doctor said it’s nice and healthy.”
“Weren’t you supposed to find out the gender?”
I smiled and shrugged, “Was I?”
He rolled his eyes he knew I knew but wouldn’t say anything. I was getting bored so I honked the horn and then they all walked out of the house with their bags in their hands. They threw their stuff in the bed of the truck and got into it just like I had done. Matt started the truck and drove away from the house. After an hour drive we finally arrived at the campsite. I saw Cassie and Monica unpacking the chairs and placing things on the picnic table. Cassie looked up and saw us arrive.
I hopped out of the truck and walked over to the bed of it so I could grab my things. Matt got out of the truck and jumped into the bed of the truck and handed me my stuff. When I had everything I walked over to Cassie who stopped what she was doing and walked over to hug me. Monica stopped doing what she was doing and walked over so she could take my things and put them in the tent.
When she took them I looked at Cassie and she looked back. “What?”
“Who’s her boyfriend anyways?”
I looked at her scared and she put her arm around my shoulders, “I’ve met him. It’s not Bryan.”
I nodded then went and sat down on a chair near the fire. Everyone was unpacking and Matt looked over at me, “Can you go grab a few bottles of water? There by the lake inside a building.”
I nodded then followed the path towards the lake, and saw the building. I walked into the building and there was a sign that pointed threw the double doors. I went through the double doors and looked up and saw Bryan standing there.
But it didn’t look like him but I could tell it was him by the way he looked at me and said, “There’s my girl.”
My eyes grew wide and I stopped in my tracks. “What are you doing here?”
“Had to find a way to make you suffer.”
“Why are you here Bryan?”
“Wanted to see you and when Matt invited me and Monica to the camping trip I didn’t pass it up knowing you’d be here.”
“Matt knows that’s you?” I asked feeling hurt and betrayed.
“No he has no idea it’s me.” I nodded feeling a little better.
“So are you doing to sit down and talk to me now?”
“Why should I Bryan?”
“Because we need to talk Vikky.”
“Whose baby that really is.”
“No Vikky it’s not.”
I looked at him and then looked down at my baby bump. I looked back up at him and he frowned then tried putting his hand on my shoulder. I moved away and started to run out the building.
Adam was sitting by the fire and saw me running so he got up and ran towards me. I ran right into his arms and he held me close to him, “Vikky what is it?”
I dug my hands into his shirt and cried. “Vikky talk to me.”
I wouldn’t say anything and Ty walked out of the tent and saw me holding onto Adam and he ran over and pulled Adam away from me and held me close to him. He took me away from the camp site but towards the truck and bent down so he could look me in the eyes.
“Vikky what happened?”
I stopped crying and tried to slow my breathing down. “T…T…Ty… he’s here.”
Ty’s face went still and his eyes went dark. “Ty?”
“Where is he?” I looked past Ty and at the camp site.
Adam was looking at us and when he saw me look past him he turned around. Bryan was standing behind him with a knife in his hand. When Adam turned around Bryan shoved it right into his side.
“ADAM!” I screamed and ran towards them.
Cassie, Monica, and Val all screamed. Matt stood there and looked down at Adam who fell to the ground and looked at Bryan. He was in complete shock. I ran over and got down on the ground next to Adam.Ty ran over and got next to me.
“What the fuck man?!” Ty yelled looking up at Bryan.
No one knew it was him but me. “Ty…That’s him.” Ty looked at me then up at Bryan.
Bryan smiled and held the knife up. “Told you I’d make you suffer Vikky. Just didn’t think this is how I would have to.”
Bryan stepped back and looked at all of us then ran off. I looked down at Adam who was looking up at me with tears in his eyes. I looked at Ty and he nodded I moved away and him and Matt picked him up and brought him inside the tent. I went and sat with Adam with his head in my lap. He started to cough and shake, as I felt his body shake I felt tears fall from my eyes.
I looked down at Adam and he looked up at me with a frown, “Victoria don’t cry. Please don’t cry. It’ll be alright. I’ll always be with you.”
I nodded then closed my eyes and laid my lips on his forehead. His eyes looked at me and I moved away and moved closer to his lips and kissed him. I felt him kiss back but then slowly slip away. I laid my forehead against his and cried. He was gone. I stayed there holding him crying until Ty came into the tent with an officer and a paramedic.
I looked up and Ty stood there, “Vikky they need to take him.”
I nodded then slowly moved Adam away from my lap and slowly got up. Ty walked over and held me close to him as I watched the paramedics take Adam’s body away.
I cried into Ty’s chest and the officer nodded at Ty and me. “I’ll come by the house sometime next week. I’m so sorry for your loss.”
Ty nodded and I just kept crying. “Ty take me home.”
Ty nodded and we got out of the tent and Val walked over to us. Ty left me to go grab Matt’s truck keys and talk to them real quick. Val and I walked to the truck and I got into the back seat, then she got into the passenger. Val turned around to look at me but I kept my head down and my eyes on my baby bump. Tears stopped coming from my eyes but the pain wouldn’t stop. Ty got into the truck and drove away from the camp site. We got back to the house and I got out of the truck and went up to the house.
Ty and Val followed me; I turned around and looked at them, “Thanks guys but I need to be alone.”
“Vikky we are not leaving you alone with what just happened.”
I looked at them and nodded. We went inside the house and I walked over and sat down on the couch. Val went over to the kitchen and made me some tea then walked over and handed it to me. I sat on the couch with my legs pulled close to me and my arms wrapped around them. I took the cup from Val and she sat on the chair next to the couch while Ty sat on the end of the couch near my feet.
“What’s going to happen now?” I asked taking a sip of my tea and looking at Ty.
“They’re going to put warrant out for Bryan and send one to the states. They’re going to find him Vikky.”
“That’s not what I meant Ty.”
“What am I going to do? I can’t stay here where everything reminds me of him.”
“Do you want to go back to the states? Back to Florida?”
I looked at him and nodded. “I need to. I need to go and see his family.”
Ty nodded then the front door opened and my parents walked in. My mom was carrying my sister. “Hey kids we didn’t know you were going to be home. I thought you were going on a camping trip?”
My mom took one look at me and handed my sister to my father and walked over to me, “Vikky what happened?”
I looked at her and started to cry. “Is the baby ok?” I nodded.
“Where’s Adam?” My dad asked looking at us.
I started to cry more and my mother shooed him away so he went to go put the baby in the crib. Val and Ty went to go fill in my father while my mother stayed with me and held me while I cried.
“Vikky if you don’t want to tell me that’s ok.”
I cried into her arms and then looked up at her and said, “Adam’s dead mom.”
Her eyes weakened and she pulled me close, “It’ll be alright.”
I felt her body shake but I could tell she was holding back the tears so she wouldn’t look weak in front of me. A few minutes later my dad came into the room and sat down with us and held me and my mother.
We all sat there and when I finally calmed down enough to talk I looked at them, “I want to go back to the states.”My mother looked at my father who was looking at me and nodded. “Alright sweet heart. We’ll go back to the states.”
