6: Almost lost you
Chapter 6: Almost lost you
When she hung up the phone I ran to my car not caring that I didn’t have any shoes on and was only in my sweatshirt and sweatpants. I got into my car and drove away from the house. It was only 10 minutes from the beach but I might not even have that long. I pressed the gas pedal making my car go faster. Ty and Tori were on a date so they had no idea and Victoria’s mom was sound asleep along with all the other adults and family members in that house.
It took me only 5 minutes of my speeding to get to the beach. It basically did nothing but give me 5 minutes to hope she’s still alive. I pulled up to the beach and saw her car there. I jumped out of my car and ran towards the water. I saw her clothes laying on the ground. I ran towards the water and looked around to see if I could see her body anywhere. I couldn’t.
No answer. I started to panic. I took off my sweat shirt and sweat pants and was just in my boxers I wanted something dry to wear after I jumped in. I ran over to the water and dove in not caring about the feeling of glass hitting my body. I swam around looking for her. I couldn’t see anything; I began to swim around feeling with my hands for anything that could feel like her. Soon I began to lose hope when I bumped into something.
I looked at where my arm had hit something and saw it was Victoria. Hope started to form back but she wasn’t breathing. I started to panic again so I grabbed hold of her and swam towards shore as quickly as I could. Once we got to shore I threw my sweatshirt onto her that covered most of her freezing body trying to bring back any life that was left inside her. I wouldn’t give up. Color started to form back into her lips and her eyes started to open again. I held her close and reached for my phone.
I rubbed her arms trying to keep her warm while I dialed 911.
“911? What’s your emergency?”
“My friend she was in the water and wasn’t moving I started to bring color back to her lips and she opened her eyes please send someone quickly. I only have her in a sweatshirt.”
“What’s your friends name and where are her parents?”
“Parent. Her mom is at her aunt’s house. My friends name is Victoria.”
“And what’s your name?”
“Alright Adam. The paramedics are on their way. Stay on the phone with me until they get there. You’re going to have to keep her warm until they arrive. Do you have anything else with you besides your sweatshirt?”
“I might have something in my car I’m not too sure.”
“You have to go and check.”
“What about Victoria what’s going to keep her warm while I go and check?”
“Bring her with you. Get her off the sand and into the car where you can have the heat warm her.”
“Alright hold on.”
I picked her up and carried her to my car and put her in the passenger seat as I cranked up the heat and made sure it was facing her. I threw on my sweat pants and looked in my trunk for something else to keep her warm. I found a blanket. I brought the phone to my face again and spoke the lady on the other end.
“I have a blanket.”
“Wrap both of yourselves in it and hold her close to you. Body heat with help bring back the heat. The paramedics should be there soon.”
I got into the car and picked her up and had her sit in between my legs as I wrapped the blanket around us and held her close. Her eyes started to close and I started to freak out again.
“Her eyes are starting to close what do I do?”
“Have her talk to you if she can. If not have her doing something to keep awake she can’t fall asleep.”
I listened to the lady and turned Victoria’s face towards me.
“Victoria you have to listen to me. You can’t fall asleep alright. Can you talk?”
She tried talking but her voice just wasn’t coming. I sighed then brushed her cheek with my hand.
“Look at me everything will be alright.”
She nodded and I had an idea.
“Are you going to keep my sweatshirt on at the hospital?”
“Do you want me to call Bryan?”
She shook her head.
“Do you want me to tell Ty?”
Soon I saw the flashing lights so I stuck out my hand and waved them over. They opened the door and I slowly got out of the car holding Victoria close to me.
“They’re here thank you so much.” She said you’re welcome and I hung up.
“Let’s get her in the ambulance and get her warmed up.”
I nodded and carried her over to the stretcher where I laid her down. The paramedic went to move the stretcher so I stepped aside and she held out her hand for me.
“I’m right here don’t worry. I’m not leaving your side.” I said looking down at her.
She nodded still holding out her hand. They lifted her into the ambulance so I climbed in and sat down next to her where she could hold my hand and where the paramedic in the back could still work on her.
“We’re going to have to give her an IV. Keep her focused on you alright?”
I nodded and Victoria went to look but I took her face in my hands and had her look at me.
“You nearly scared the crap out me Victoria. You could have called me and I would have came and stayed with you. You didn’t need to drink and go swim in the freezing water.”
She looked sad and I sighed then put my forehead on hers and said, “You’re so lucky I care about you so much or I’d give you a good long talk.”
She rolled her eyes and I kept her face in my hands and pulled away so I could see if the IV was in. I looked at the paramedic and he nodded. I smiled then let go of her face but I kept stroking her cheek as she smiled.
Soon we arrived at the hospital and they brought her in with me following right next to them holding her hand. They brought us into a room and started covering her with blankets and had her drink some hot tea to help get her voice back.
The doctor came in and checked her out, her voice would take a few days to come back but it would come back and she was going to be fine. Apparently I got to her just in time. Thank God. He gave her the okay to sleep since she was so tired.
I sat next to her bed stroking her cheek as she slept peaceful wrapped in my sweatshirt and all the blankets they wrapped her in.
I was sitting there looking at her when Bryan walked in. He took one look at her then at me and just shook his head.
“Tell her when she wakes up we need to talk.”
“I don’t think she’ll be talking to you for a long long time Bryan. You’re the reason she nearly killed herself. You can’t stop can you?”
“Is that what that whore told you? That I was the reason. HA! Maybe next time you should check and see if the girl you’re kissing is dating someone. You’re the reason she got what she got tonight. And you’re the reason she almost killed herself. Now if you don’t mind.” He said paging the nurses’ station.
“Can you please have the security escort Adam here out of the building and away from my girlfriend?”
Not even 2 minutes later two really fat hospital security guards walked into the room.
“Let’s go punk.”I sighed and looked at Victoria, I walked over and kissed her head then grabbed my phone and left. Since I didn’t have any clothes on other then my pants and the hospital gave me a shirt and some shoes to wear until I got home. I can’t believe Bryan. What he said can’t be true. Can it?
