Chapter 18

Hannah’s POV

I had invited mom and dad over dinner. It was not fair for them not to know the truth. Hence I

decided to tell them everything. I prepared dad’s favorite dishes.

Hearing the doorbell, I removed my apron, hung it on the hook, and opened the door. I saw mom and dad standing out and asked them to come in.

“Hey, Hannah. Where is Timmy?” Mom asked. I smiled and pointed at his room.

“Do you need any help with the dinner?” she asked again.

I shook my head. “No, no, mom. Everything is ready. It is in the oven. Let us eat after some time. Do you need anything to drink?”

Mom declined, and she went to Timmy’s room. Dad and I settled on the living room couch.

“How are you, darling? Hope your office pressure is reduced now.” He asked with a smile.

“I am fine, dad. Yes, we got a new project, and we’re working on that. Hence the pressure, now it is OK.” After that, mom came out with Timmy, and we chatted about things.

We had a quiet dinner. Timmy was babbling with his grandpa, and dad was also chatting with him. Mom and I were simply smiling at their conversation. After dinner, I settled Timmy in his room. I came out to see mom preparing coffee.

“What are you doing, mom?” I asked her.

“Preparing coffee for us.” She told. I took a cup, where two took one cup for her and one for dad. She gave one to him. After sitting on the couch, mom looked at me. “Spill it, Hannah.” She told.

“Mom,” I said in surprise.

“Oh. Give some credit to me. I am your mom Hannah. I know your behavior when you wanted to say something important. And you haven’t said anything important till now.”

“It regards Timmy’s father,” I told them. Dad, who was casual so far, became serious.

“What? Who is that? Did you meet him again?” Dad asked me.

“Daniel, let her talk.” Mother stopped him and looked at me. “Is it anything to do with Kelly and Mathew’s anniversary celebration?” she asked me.

God! Sometimes she scares me with this mom’s instincts. “Yes, mom,” I told her. “You see, Jack is Timmy’s father.” They already knew what happened in university. Now I told them how he believed Ruby’s words and acted to avenge Amy and that he realized the truth now. And not he is in hospital after a severe accident.

Mom and dad were silent after I told them. “Mom, Dad! Say something.”

“What do you want us to tell Hannah? That guy betrayed my girl. We have seen the way you coped up the months once you were expelled from that university. If not for Timmy…” my dad stopped for a moment, cleared his throat, and looked at me. “If not for Timmy, you would not have come out of that depression so soon. What can we say ha? It’s Ok. You can see that guy and get back together?”

“Whoa, Dad! Who said anything about getting back together? I am talking only about Timmy. Jack is his father, and he should know that. If not for Jack, Timmy has the right to know about his dad.” I told him.

Mom interfered with us. “Daniel. Calm down.”

“Don’t tell me to calm down, Nicole. Have you forgotten how Hannah suffered when she came back? How could you forget it? She suffered a lot to become what she is now. As a father, I cannot forgive the people who did that for her. And now she is talking for them.” Dad got up in anger and left out to stand outside.

I looked at mom. She sighed at pat my hand. “Your father expressed his love towards you, in his ways. He loves you and doesn’t want you to suffer.”

“I know, mom,” I said softly.

“I could see your point as a mother. You don’t want Timmy to suffer without knowing his dad. But, what about you? Have you forgiven him?”

I sighed at her words. “I don’t know, mom. I am still angry at what he did to me. My mind is accepting that he did without knowing the truth. But my heart says that he did not have a right to do, especially to play with my emotions. My feelings were all over the place. And now, he is badly hit and in hospital. So I cannot show my anger towards him now.”

I stopped for a moment with a big sigh and continued. “I am not sure about what will happen between the two of us. But I should tell about Timmy to Jack and about Jack to Timmy.”

“What did Jack told once he realized the truth?”

“He said he wanted to make things right. He said he will make it alright for me.”

“Oh! Did he said anything about you two?”

I looked at her with a side-eye. “Mom, no. Don’t become romantic.” I warned her.

“What? No. I wanted you to be happy. You are not seeing anyone. So I thought... maybe….” She dragged a little bit.

I shook my head with a smile. Typical mom. “Mom, please. I don’t have time for that. My plate is already full. I want to take care of Timmy first. Also, I am not interested in seeing anyone.” I shook a finger at her. “So, no silly ideas, ok?”

She nodded back to me. But something in her eyes said she was not backing down anytime soon. I looked up to see what my dad was doing. My mother followed my suit.

“Give him some time. He will be alright.” She told me as I nodded back.

“Ok. Let me get your father.” She went to talk to him. I saw mom saying something to dad, and he was shaking his head vigorously. After some time, I saw him sighing big time and nodding his head. Then both of them entered in.

“Dad.” I went to him and hugged him. He hugged me, rubbing my back.

“Hannah. I am still not ok with what you are doing.” He said, and mom interrupted, “Daniel.”

But dad spoke again. “Even though I am not ok with that, I am not going to back down. I will be there for you whenever you need me. You are still my little princess.” I chuckled with tears.

“Thanks, dad. I love you.”

“I love you too, baby.” He said softly.

We heard a click, and I turned to see mom taking us a snap.

“Mom,” I called her with a deadpanned look.

“What? That was so sweet.” She answered. I looked at my dad, and he shook his head at me with a smile.

“So when are you going to tell him about Timmy?” Dad asked.

“Not immediately. Even though Jack says he regrets his mistakes, I am cautious because of my experience. So I want to wait for some time and then tell him about Timmy. Even though I believe he will not act like before, something is stopping me from doing it.”

Dad nodded his head at me. “I can understand.”

After another cup of coffee, mom and dad left for the day. I cleaned up the kitchen and sat down to call Paige.

“Hey, Paige.”

“Hey, Hannah. Have you told your parents? What did they say?” She asked me.

“Dad was angry. But mom understood me. Dad could not accept it even now. But somehow, mam pacified him.” I told her.

“As anticipated” I chuckled at Paige’s answer.

“I know you will be worried and hence called you to update.”

“Yeah. I was about to call you in another 30 minutes if you hadn’t called now.” She told back.

“Paige. Thank you. You are a wonderful friend.” I said softly.

“Come on, Hannah. You are my best friend. I love you, girl.” She told me.

“Love you too.” I cut the call with a smile and sat there for some time thinking about Paige.

I checked Timmy once again before going to bed. I looked at his sleeping figure and smiled.

“Good night, bud,” I whispered and went to my room.

Once I laid down, I set my morning alarm, and my mobile beeped with a message.

It was a good night message from Jack. I looked at that message for a long time. Maybe I was happy after talking to my parents and Paige. I did not get the irritation I felt earlier.

So I messaged him back with a good night’s wish. I kept the mobile on the side table and closed my eyes.
