I got up and rushed to his room and saw him sleeping still. I felt like shaking him to wake him up. But considering his situation, I could not do that. So instead, I paced in the office room. I could not be able to concentrate on anything. My hands were still shaking, and my breath was uneven. My emotions were all over the place. I felt happy, sad, angry, and even confused. I took deep breaths to calm myself down.
I took my phone twice to call Paige but decided against it. Let me talk to Jack first. Then, I decided to check on Jack once again. God! Why was I acting so impatient?
I entered to see Jack leaning and checking his mobile. I cleared my throat, and he looked up.
“Hannah! What? Why are you standing there?” He called me.
I entered the room and sat in the chair near him.
“Why?” I asked him.
His expression was confused for a moment, and then he smiled.
“Didn’t I tell you that I will right all the wrongs?” He asked me.
“But… But…” I stuttered at a loss of words.
“I cannot give back all that you have lost. But I will try till the end to give you all that I can.”
“How did you do it?”
“Hannah! I own an IT company. Do you think I cannot get into your laptop and send a mail to the university?”
I shook at his words.
“Why did you mentioned that we had a contract three years ago?”
“If I mention that I had put contract now, the university will not accept it, and they say that the action they took three years earlier was correct. They will even argue that their action is valid since we had signed the contract now.”
“Were you that confident that they will give in to the mail? Did they not demand answers? Did they not asked as to why you raised a complaint then?”
He gave a mirthless laugh. “The University was so eager to be in my good books, and they never thought for a second when they expelled you. Even now, they want to be in good books with me. And they don’t want to get into unnecessary muddling of a lawsuit. So I know they will reach out to you.”
“What if they had questioned you back? Even worse, if they filed a complaint against you.”
“I had anticipated all their actions, and I had my backup plans.”
I kept quiet after his answer. Finally, Jack looked at me and asked. “What have you decided, Hannah?”
“I don’t know. I cannot go back to the university. I don’t want that. The credit points that I scored earlier are enough to get my degree. So I am planning to ask them to send my degree by post.”
“Why? Don’t you want to go there and show them that you stole a project? To show them that you did hard work and to tell them that they did wrong?”
I shook my head. “The people knew me for three years. Even then, they turned their back without a second thought. I don’t want to see them any time in my life.”
Jack became silent at my answer. His face showed pain.
“What happened, Jack? Is it paining anywhere? How stupid of me. You should be taking a rest.”
He shook his head and took my hand.
“Do you think the same about me? That you never wanted to see me in your life?”
I was speechless at his question. I looked away for a moment. However, I did not pull back my hand as I knew that he would feel even worse if I did that.
“I thought in such a way earlier. But…” I stopped and looked at him. I sighed and continued. “But, when I knew that you did that for Amy, I understood your love for your sister. Even though I could not accept your actions as I was the victim of it.”
His face fell at my words. I looked at him with a smile.
“Now, I am not sure of myself. Even though my mind says that you too acted because of situations, my heart is not accepting it. I don’t have the same anger I had at you. But I cannot conclude still. Give me some time.”
He nodded at me with a smile.
“Thank you for considering me.”
I nodded as I got up. “It’s time for me to leave. I will see you tomorrow.” I told him.
As I was nearing the doorstep, his voice stopped me. I turned towards him.
“Do you want to say anything to me?” He asked.
I felt that he was talking about Timmy. I did not know why, but something inside told me. Surprisingly I was not feeling anxious like the other day.
“I want to, Jack. But if I tell you this, it looks as if I was telling because of what you did for me. Also, I need some time to tell you this. I don’t know if we are talking about the same matter, but please give me some time. I will tell you.”
With those words, I left the house.
Once reaching home, I mailed the university to send my degree via postal. And I called Mom and Dad and then Paige to share the news about my degree.
Mom and Dad were so happy.
Paige shrieked in happiness once I told her. Then, after talking for a couple of minutes, she asked me, “What have you decided about Timmy?”
“I have to tell him. Timmy’s birthday comes in three days. I was planning to tell him a day before that.”
Paige hummed at my answer. “What would be his reaction? Do you have any idea?”
“I don’t know Paige. Sometimes I feel that Jack knows about Timmy.”
She was surprised at my answer. “What? How?”
“No idea. But the way he quotes things, I feel like that.”
After a moment of silence, Paige said. “I think he likes you.”
I never answered for that.
