Chapter 21

Hannah’s POV

It took two days for me to gather my courage to tell him. I saw a longing in Jack’s eyes whenever he saw me. That made me chicken out whenever I wanted to talk to him. What if he got angry that I hid such a big thing from him? Or even worse, what if Timmy wanted his dad and not me? How will Jack react to this news? Had Jack guessed this already? God! Give me a break. I was overthinking, and the thoughts were killing me.

Tomorrow is Timmy’s birthday, and it’s now or never. So I took a deep breath and entered Jack’s room. Jack was sitting in the chair near the window. The doctor said that Jack could move around inside the room for now, and once his ribs and legs healed some more, he could move around the house. But climbing stairs is strictly a no-no for now. Also, the doctor had advised to start with physiotherapy.

Jack turned at the sound of me and smiled.

“What are you doing?” I asked as I sat in the chair near to him.

“Just looking at the outside world. It is so refreshing to see the lawn after looking around the same room for long.”

“Hmmm.” I was silent as I did not know how to start.

“Jack,” I called him.

“You see... When we met at the university…. On that day….” God, why was I stammering?

“Hannah,” Jack called softly. “Whatever you want to say, you can say it to me. No need to hesitate.”

“You are the father of my son.” I mentally slapped myself. I thought of a thousand ways on how to say this and finally messed up. I looked at his face to gauge his reaction. And he was smiling.

What? Was he smiling? Why? How? My face should have expressed my thoughts, and Jack chuckled at me.

“Are you not angry?” I asked him.

He shook his head. Wow. “Why?” I asked again.

“Because I already knew about Timmy.”

I got up in shock.

“Wha… How?”

“Joseph,” He said back.

Ah! I slumped back in my chair. I forgot Mr. Perez. He knew about my son and should have told Jack. Jack would have done the math. But if Jack already knew, why had he not asked me? Didn’t he want to see his son?

“If you already know about Timmy, why haven’t you asked me? Don’t you want to see him” My voice wavered in emotion.

“Who said that I haven’t seen him?”

My God! I thought it would be a shock for him. But his answers were giving me a heart attack. Seeing my reaction, Jack continued.

“When Joseph told about Timmy, I wanted to demand answers from you. But that I realized I don’t have any right to question you? In fact, I was so sure that you didn’t want to tell me about Timmy. I saw him on the next day after Kelly and Mathew’s anniversary. I saw him in the park with his nanny.”

I was afraid to ask my next question.

“Did you?” I cleared my throat and asked again. “Did you?” I could not finish the question.

He shook his head. “No. I did not talk to him. I just saw him at a distance. I made a habit of watching him in the park every day.” He was silent for a moment and looked out. “On that day, I saw you sitting with Timmy in the park. You were much tensed at some thoughts and hugged him tightly. I knew that you were thinking about me. If my guess is correct, you were afraid if someone takes away Timmy from you.” He said with such a painful voice, and I understood he was mentioning him as that someone.

He sighed and said, “I was thinking about you while driving back home. I could not forgive myself after seeing you like that. And that’s when I ran on the red light as I was thinking about you and did not see the traffic light. I am not blaming you, but merely telling my situation.”

I was stunned at his revealing.

“Do you want to meet him?”

His face lit with happiness. He nodded with a yes.

“Tomorrow is Timmy’s Birthday. If you want, I will bring him here to meet you.” I said to him.

“Please. I will be thrilled if you do that. I want to meet Timmy.” He stopped and looked at me. “Does Timmy knows that I am his father?”

I shook my head, and he nodded his head in understanding.

“I am planning to tell that tomorrow.”

“Can you tell about him?” He asked me eagerly.

“His name is Timothy Johnson. He is an adorable boy. He is brilliant for his age. He is very friendly. He understands our emotions by seeing us. He is such a sweetie. He loves Paw Patrol. He is the apple of my eye.” My face should have shown so much pride that it made him see me softly.

He looked at me with a teary smile. “Thank you for telling me about him.”

I got up and turned to go out but stopped mid-way. “Will you take my son from me?”

Jack looked as if I slapped him. “I deserve that. But, no, I will never do that. But I wish to be in his life.”

I nodded at him.

“Hannah.” He called me.

“I wish to be in your life too.” I looked at him for a moment and left the room.

Coming out of the room, I let out a huff. When Jack said he wanted to be in my life, what couldn’t I say no? What was stopping me?

***

The next day, I brought Timmy along with me. I gave a day off to Katie. I was a little bit nervous when I entered Jack’s house. But I stopped in my tracks when I entered and saw the living room decorated with balloons.

Timmy shrieked in joy seeing the colorful balloons.

“Happy Birthday Timmy” I turned at the voices and saw Jack sitting in a chair and Rafe standing near him.

Timmy looked at them and looked at me. Then, going near Jack and Rafe, I kneeled with Timmy next to me.

I looked at Timmy and said, “Baby, This is Jack. He is your dada.”

“Gampa Dan?” Timmy asked me with confusion.

I chuckled and said to him, “No. Grandpa Daniel is my dada. He is your dada.” I pointed towards Jack.

Timmy looked at Jack for a long moment and called, “Dada?”

Jack’s face broke with a bright smile. “Yes, Timmy. I am your dada” He spread his hands, and I looked worried at him.

“Jack?” I asked him.

“Don’t worry, Hannah. I am fine.” He said. Timmy slowly two the two steps to reach Jack. He then stopped and looked at the bandages.

“Boo?” He asked.

Jack looked at me with confusion.

“He is asking if you are hit.” Jack looked at Timmy and with a smile.

“Yes, Timmy. But I am OK.” He said back.

Timmy slowly went to him and called him dada again. Jack tried to bend down to lift Timmy but his face scrunched in pain. Seeing that, Rafe lifted Timmy and placed him in Jack’s lap.

“Happy Birthday Timmy. And I got a gift for you.” Saying that, he looked at Rafe. Rafe immediately went to the corner of the room and brought a giant gift box. He then kneeled next to them and kept the box on his lap. Timmy bent to rip the cover. Once the box was open, Timmy laughed and called me.

“Mama, look. Paw pattal.”

“Wow, Timmy. It’s Paw Patrol, your favorite. Do you like it?” He nodded his head vigorously, and we all laughed at that. It was a complete set of Paw Patrol toys.

I stood up as my legs started to cramp. “This is a big surprise for us,” Rafe told me.

I looked at him, and he was looking at Timmy with a smile.

“Yeah. Sorry about that.” I told him.

He shook his head and told me. “Don’t be.”

He then looked at Timmy and called him. “Hey, Timmy. I am your uncle Rafe. Nice to meet you, buddy. Happy birthday.”

Timmy looked at him and called. “Uncle Rafe?”

“Yes, bud. Uncle Rafe. And look. Here comes your cake.” I saw Brianna coming with a big cake.

Rafe pulled a small table in front of Jack and Timmy, and Brianna kept the cake on that. After that, we sang ‘Happy Birthday to Timmy’ to which he cut the cake.

Jack looked a bit tired after some time. “Jack, you look tired. Take some rest.”

“Oh! I am fine.” He said.

“You cannot sit for a long time. At least let’s go to your room. You can lean on your bed.” I told him.

He looked at Timmy and said. “Let Timmy be with me.”

He leaned on the headboard of his bed, and Timmy sat next to him and played with his new toys. He was saying something to Jack pointing- each toy and Jack was listening intently at him.

“He had never listed this intent even in-office meetings,” Rafe said with a chuckle, and I smiled at that.

“Thank you,” Rafe said again softly, and I nodded at him.
