Chapter 6

Hannah’s POV:

I could not see Jack for the next couple of days. Then, finally, he messaged me saying that he was pretty busy in his office because of some critical project. I missed him badly, and the days looked very dull without him. I was somewhat surprised that I could miss someone very badly.

On Friday evening, I messaged Jack quoting that the code is ready. He responded immediately, saying that he is happy to hear that. I was a bit disappointed that he never responded to my other messages but this one. He also asked if we could meet the next day to discuss it. So, of course, I responded with a yes.

But then there is no answer from him after. Poor Jack, the problem should be pretty critical, else he would not be so unresponsive. I closed my mobile and started working on my assignments. Around 10 pm, my mobile rang. It was Jack.

“Hey, Jack.”

“Hey.” His voice sounded very sleepy.

“Jack,” I called him with worry.

“Sorry, I am dead tired today.” He said between yawns.

“Oh. Had your dinner?” I asked him.

“Nope, not yet. My housekeeper is on weekly off. I am too tired to cook.” He said back and continued, “Are you free tomorrow? Can we discuss the code?”

“Yes, Jack. We can.”

“That’s great. I will come to your place tomorrow evening.” He said.

“Sure. Will 5 pm suits you?” I asked him.

“Perfect. OK, Hanna. I will see you tomorrow.” He responded and cut the call. I sat in silence for 10 minutes and opened the Uber Eats. I ordered soup and Chicken rice for him.

After 30 minutes, my mobile pinged. Jack had sent a message ‘Thank you. I am now going to rest with a happy tummy.’ I smiled at his statement and continued my work.

Paige had gone home this week, and there were no classes on Saturday. I was bored to the core and decided to do the cleaning. I did all the laundry and cleaned my cupboard. After that, I order lunch, had a leisure shower sat down with one of the books on my to-read list. Only when the doorbell chimed, I realized it was 5 pm. I got up to see Jack standing on the other side. I opened the door and saw him turning and talking to someone.

I peeped out to see it was Max.

“Hey, Max,” I called him.

“Hanna.” He said seriously. What is with this guy?

Jack nod his head to him and came in. Once I locked the door, he pulled me by my waist and hugged me.

“Jack,” I was taken aback by his action.

“I missed you.” He whispered on my shoulders. I hugged him back. He took me to the couch and sat next to me.

“Did you miss me?” He asked me.

I nodded my head and said, “It was a long two days for me. I missed you too” His face brightened at my answer.

“Coffee?” I asked him. He nodded his head and moved towards the kitchen to make two mugs of coffee. Jack followed me and sat on one of the island chairs.

“Is the problem solved?” I asked him.

“Not yet, but we found the crux of the issue. Hopefully, it will be solved in a couple of days.” He responded.

After some time, we opened my laptop on the kitchen island and went through my project. He ran multiple tests and was quite satisfied with my work.

“Excellent, Hanna. This project has a great future. How about you join my company after your course and we can put a contract for this contract?”

I became speechless at his words. “Jack…” I don’t know what to say.

“What? You deserve it. This is a brilliant idea, and you have designed it very well.”

My face broke with a happy smile, and he asked, “So are you ready to join with Cyber Gate Solutions?”

“Yes,” I said in a breathless tone. Jack laughed out loud, seeing my reaction. He then looked at the watch and said, “Hanna, would you mind if we order in. I am quite exhausted to go out.”

Feeling bad for him, I ordered dinner for both of us. “Only us? Where is Ms. Nelson?” Jack asked me.

“Paige had gone to her home. Her grandmother was not well, and she had gone to visit her.” I said to him. He hummed at my answer.

After dinner, we were talking anything and everything between earth and sky. Jack had a good sense of humor. He then started looking at my project, and I sat next to him. He asked me some questions here and there, and I was explaining the logic to him. Then, finally, I slowly drifted to sleep.

I jerked open my eyes with heaving breaths searching for water. Jack was tapping my cheeks with the worrisome face.

“Hanna, Hanna,” he was waking me up.

I slowly sat up, realizing that I fell asleep on the couch with Jack next to me. But, unfortunately, I had the same dream in Jack’s presence.

“You were jerking in sleeping. What happened?” Jack asked with a concern-filled voice.

I shook my head. “Just some dream.” I got up to the kitchen to get a glass of water. He followed me in there.

“It doesn’t look like some dream. You were thrashing across, and I was afraid for a moment that you might fall. What happened?” He asked me.

I sighed at him. “It is the same dream occurring again and again for the past three years.”

“I don’t know. You might feel relieved if you share it with someone.” He told, hugging me.

“I even tried a therapist, but no use. The occurrence of the dream had reduced, but whenever I get the dream, the impact is the same.” I whispered on his chest.

“Why don’t you try sharing it with me?” His question made me silent. What if he thinks that I am a freak after listening to the dream?

“Hey,” he softly whispered. “It’s OK. Trust me.”

I took his hand and went back to the couch in the living room. We sat next to each other, holding our hands.

“Three years back, my friend, her sister, and I went out to celebrate an occasion. While coming back, we met with an accident. Unfortunately, I lost my friend in that accident.” I could feel his body became rigid when I said this.

“What happened?” I could not be able to decipher the emotions in his voice.

“I don’t know. I don’t remember. My mind is blocking that memory. All I remember is I was in that car, and one of us was drunk. I don’t remember anything more than that.” I started sobbing with tears saying this.

He lifted my face and kissed deeply. I was shocked at his action and looked at him with wide eyes.

He chuckled at my reaction and asked, “Are you better now? Did you come out of the shock?”

I nod my head at the loss of words. His eyes blazed with emotions that stirred something in me. His deep dark gaze made me gasp. He looked deep into my eyes and said, “I want to kiss you, feel you. Make you think only about me and make all your other memories fade away.” My eyes widened even more at his words.

He bent down again to kiss me even more profound. His kiss was gentle and fierce, soft and deep, which made all my other memories fade away. I could not feel anything else apart from his kiss. Neither do I remember him carrying me nor talking me into my room.

I woke up hugging my pillow. But why it is very hard. I opened my eyes and could see the bare chest of a male. I suddenly sat up in shock and saw Jack sleeping next to me. But our state clearly said what could have happened last night. Slowly memories flooded into me. I remember Jack carrying me into my room. And how he slowly laid me on my bed like a fragile glass, how he caressed me softly like a flower and drowned me deeper and took me higher.

I came back from my memories when I felt Jack stirring from sleep. He opened his eyes and smiled at me. “Hey.”

“Hey,” I spoke back, not know what to say further.

Jack chuckled at my reaction, pulled me to him, and hugged me. “What? Don’t say that you did not remember anything?” He teased me.

“Jack, please…” I stopped him in blushing.

“OK… OK… Are you fine now?” He asked me.

“Yes.” I not at him. He kissed me on my forehead and got up. “Let me freshen up and prepare some breakfast for you.” He said and went inside the bathroom.

I laid back, thinking about what had happened. Were we fast in taking the next step in our relationship? What will Jack feel about me? That I am an easy lay?

“Don’t overthink. Everything happens for a reason.” Jack pulled me from my cocoon of thoughts. “Get up. Go and freshen up.” He said and moved to the kitchen.

When I came to the kitchen after a shower, I saw Jack had prepared toast and eggs. Two steaming mugs of coffee were waiting on the table.

After breakfast, Jack spoke, “I have to leave today. We are deep diving on the issue in my company.”

I nod at him. I need some alone time to think about what had happened.

“Is it OK for you to have the project discussion tomorrow morning?” He asked me.

“Tomorrow?” I spat in surprise.

“Yes. The sooner, the better. You are already late because of Robert’s absence. Let us finish this soon.”

“But how can you arrange in such a short period?” I asked him.

He chuckled. “You don’t worry. I will take care of that.”

He finished his breakfast, kissed me again, and left, “See you tomorrow morning.”
