Chapter Twenty Nine

I witnessed Simon fall to the ground by the impact of Ray's rough hands and Mia was now standing by my side, giving me a confused look until her eyes landed on the floor.

"What the hell is going on? Why is he on the floor?" she freaked out, questioning me in fear but I could feel my mind zoning out and I was unable to process anything.

I should stop Ray before he hits him again and gets arrested or something.

"I can't believe you didn't tell her. Are you afraid that she will leave you if she knows the truth?" Simon asked him with an evil laughter and my head started to pound.

What the hell was he talking about?

"Shut your damn mouth. I should probably kill you for touching my girl." Ray shouted angrily and punched him square on the face again. I gasped in horror when I noticed blood dripping from Simon's nose.

"Ray, we need to leave now." I tried to pull him by his arms but he shrugged me off, his eyes focusing on Simon who was now holding his nose in pain. A small crowd has now formed around us, eager to watch the fight go down and I scanned the place to find Trina or a bouncer.

I just wanted to go home with him.

God, I knew coming here would be a bad idea.

"Why don't you tell her that I'm your brother before you kill me? Oh, and also tell her that you are with her only to provoke me," he snapped angrily, making me go still and I froze, not sure if I heard him right.

That can't be right.

But that's impossible.

He said that he was an only child and there was no resemblance between them whatsoever.

"You are not my fucking brother and now, you are going to be fucking dead." He roared, raising his fist again to strike him while I stood paralyzed as nothing made sense to me.

What did he mean by the last part?

Is Ray with me only to provoke him?

No, no, that's not possible too.

None of this made any sense. He is probably trying to get into his head.

"Let's see if you are man enough to do that atleast," Simon scoffed, making the situation worse.

"Ray! What the hell, man?" I heard Trina's voice as she came and stood between them thankfully. Ray lowered his hand immediately, running it through his hair in frustration.

"Simon, get your ass out of here." She scolded him as he tried to stand up and the crowd started to disperse slowly. Tears were threatening to fall down my cheeks and I rubbed my wrist which was now red with Simon's hand marks.

"Baby!" Ray came to my side immediately, his eyes scanning my whole body to see if I was hurt anywhere else but I kept staring at him with wide eyes.

"What the hell was that?" I asked in a rough tone, earning a few glances from people around us and he tried to take my hand but I stopped him.

"No, stop it. You can't 'Ridhi' me anymore. Is it true?" I started to break down, my lips trembling and I couldn't hold it back anymore.

"Babe, I'll call you later. We are heading home." Trina called out quietly from behind him with Mia by her side and I gave her a weak smile, watching them leave. Simon was nowhere to be seen too.

"Let's go home and I'll explain everything," he whispered, trying to take me in his arms again but I shook my head, knowing that some part of what Simon stated was indeed true. I had no idea how but it started to make sense as I put the pieces together.

He kissed me that day all of a sudden when Simon visited.

Was it because he was actually jealous or because he wanted to trigger his 'brother'?

"Don't touch me." I almost yelled and started to run towards the back exit of the pub. I knew he was following me as I heard his foot steps and he caught up to me quickly, pulling me back towards him in one swift movement.

"Jesus, would you stop over reacting for once?" he spoke through gritted teeth and I looked away from him.

Was everything a lie between us?

"How can I be cool after what I learnt just now? Is he your brother, Ray? Tell me that he is lying and I'll calm down." I asked, pushing him away from me roughly.

We were almost on the streets but it was deserted expect for a few employees of the pub, unloading some goods from a truck.

"Look, he is my brother but not in the way you think." He paused, his face scrunching in anger and disgust, "H---He is my half brother." He admitted finally, his face lowering in shame and I tried not to be startled by his response but it was impossible to maintain a cool facade.

Of course!

His anger towards his dad. It all made sense.

"But, he spoke you as if he was seeing you for the first time that day in the apartment?" I asked in confusion and he let out a huge sigh.

"I guess he came to know only recently but I've known for a long time." He muttered with no expression on his face and I didn't know what to make of it.

He had known all this while and yet he didn't tell me.

"So, it's all true then."

"About what?" he asked, giving me a questioning look.

"About what he said. You are with me only to provoke him and you kissed me that day out of your anger towards your brother."

"I knew it. I am just a pawn in your little feud, right?" I asked angrily, afraid to know the answer.

Please say no.

I whispered a silent prayer as I waited for his response but all he gave me was a defeated look like he didn't expect this from me.

"I can't...I mean, how can you even think like that?"

He looked so broken and I noticed the pain evident in his eyes.

Maybe I shouldn't have assumed the worst but he didn't tell me about Simon.

Can he really blame me for doubting his words and actions?

"I don't know what to think, Ray. You never told me about Simon. What am I supposed to do?"

"I'm heading home. Are you coming?" he asked in a monotonous tone, not giving me even a second glance.

"Ray, I didn't mean to accuse you. I just wanted to--" I took a step forward but he started walking outside, towards the parking lot, not waiting for my reply and I followed him behind like a lost puppy.

Silence, heavy between us.

I hated this.

I just wanted him to talk to me and open up to me. I wanted to hug him and comfort him. Simon was just trying to mess with us and it had worked.

Fuck, I shouldn't have over reacted and should have just heard him out.
