I Am Proud

These past few days have been a blur. I've spent most of my time hiding out at Alaric's apartment. Somehow the video of me singing at Alaric's soundcheck has gotten out, and I've gone viral. I've had numerous managers ask to represent me and the same amount of labels to meet with me. I didn't want any of this. Damien has given me a few days off, so let things cool down for me.

Alaric is at a meeting to go on tour for 6months. He wants me to go with him, but I'm still thinking about it. I don't want to have to put my job on hold, and Alaric somewhat understands. He says that he is fine taking care of me, but I don't want it to be that way. I want to work, and I want to continue doing what I love. Alaric assures me that I will be able to work while he is on tour, and I'll help him with his sets and music, but I'm still unsure about the whole thing. He is trying to convince me, but I'm holding my ground.

I've been a little distant from him because of this whole ordeal. I know it's not his fault that I've been thrown into the spotlight, but I can't help but feel it's a little of his fault. He's giving me my space by working in the studio a lot. I really miss him because he has been working a lot more, but I am grateful that he is giving me space.

I am watching a show on Netflix, and I hear my phone ringing. I jump up because I think it's Alaric, but it's my mother. I groan out loud. She has called me a few times since the video came out. I sigh and answer.

"Hi, baby!" She sounds super chipper? Baby? What? I look at my phone to see if it really is my mom calling.

"Uhh. Hi?" I sound unsure. She hasn't called me baby since I was like 7, and she's never this happy to talk to me.

"How's everything going? I miss you so much, and I am so proud of you." Her voice is loving. What the hell is going on?

"Everything's good." I'm confused as hell.

"That's good. How's your boyfriend?" Since when does she care? The last time I talked to her about him, she basically called me a slut and said I was sleeping my way to the top and he was using me.

"Fine." My tone is clipped.

"That's so good. So are you going on tour with him? When do you leave?" She sounds fake as hell.

"What's going on, mom? Why do you care?" I sound harsh.

She gasps. "Arryn! What do you mean? Why would you think I didn't care?"

"Uhh, because you never have before." What the hell is going on with her?

"Nonsense. You know I've always cared and supported you." She tries to brush me off.

I snort. "Yeah, sure."

I hear the phone muffled, but I can still hear her telling someone she will be right back. My eyes widen. This is all for show. She is unbelievable.

She gets back on the phone, and her voice is harsh. "Arryn, don't you dare embarrass me like that ever again!"

"Embarrass you?" My voice cracks a bit.

"My friends are here, and they are excited that they know someone who has a famous daughter and a famous future son-in-law." She has no damn shame.

"I am not going to put on a show for you and pretend we have a perfect relationship! Did you forget that you said Alaric was using me? Did you forget that you basically disowned me because I left? Tell your friends that shit and see how excited they will be!" I yell at her and hang up the phone.

I am fuming! I can't believe that she thinks she can use me to get attention. She never supported me for one second.

I look down at my phone and see that she is calling back. I press ignore and throw my phone on the couch. I am too mad to talk to her again. She is ridiculous.

I get up and get some water because I need to calm the hell down before Alaric comes home. I already know that he will be mad as hell when I tell him about her call.

I'm sitting here slowly calming down, waiting for Alaric to come home. Even though I know, he won't be here for a while.

Honestly, I want all of this to be over with to get back to my normal life.
