Chapter 3. Clicking

I reached my house, the boxes were still outside. I actually couldnโ€™t believe this womenโ€ฆ As I continue to walk up to the door, I realized the door was wide open and the house lights had been on. Yes, there was furniture, but I didnโ€™t bother to go upstairs.

โ€œMOM!! MOM!! where are you! Iโ€™m back from the dock!โ€ I yelled.

Silence echoed across the room. I checked the two closest rooms near the door, the kitchen and the living room. No one.

*WHOO WHOOO*

Owls. It was pitched dark out, but for some reason I wasnโ€™t as worried about my mom missing. She probably was out getting stuff. I looked back outside. Damn. My mom really didnโ€™t bring in the boxes. It was a deal too. Ughhhhh.

I walked back out, as my back was bending down the whole way. I brought every single box into the house, but I didnโ€™t unpack anything. It was fair enough that I brought them in AND went to that beach. I then turned to the couch, and realized how late it was. My mom clearly wasnโ€™t home to make any food, even thought I was sure there wasnโ€™t anything in the fridge yet, so I flopped onto the couch and slept through the night. I couldnโ€™t help but think about the whole day. Just yesterday I was with my WHOLE familyโ€ฆnow Iโ€™m stuck with just one of them. Well actually, Iโ€™m not even sure where they are at. But I donโ€™t overthink things like these. Iโ€™m not the type to be upset over stupid shit. And not to sound weird or ungrateful, I do indeed tend to put friends over family. Itโ€™s just something that circled around me, and came to my attention.

*LOUD MUSIC PLAYS*

I woke up to see a dark blue blanket around me, and there behind me was my mom. Dancing in the kitchen and singing as loud as she possibly can. All the boxes were gone and unpacked.

โ€œOH! YOUโ€™RE AWAKE!! Sorry I wasnโ€™t home yesterday nighttt, I went to pick up things! Oh! Anddd in my office is your uniform, go get ready, Iโ€™m making you breakfast!โ€ My mom yelled across the room.

My eyes were barely open, but my legs were doing most of the work. I stood up for a few seconds then found and walked towards my momโ€™s new office. It was nice actually, it was big, but Iโ€™m not sure why would my mom need so much room forโ€ฆplants? Itโ€™s actually unnecessary, but who am I to tell my mother, (a botanist), that she doesnโ€™t need it.

I looked to her table, then at my uniform. red. not a ruby red, nor a strawberry redโ€ฆlike a dule red plaid skirt with a white button up. oh and like every other stupid uniform.. a bow?

โ€œYeah and my life just canโ€™t get any worse..it just became really un stylist. No really what the hell is this.โ€ I stated.

Iโ€™m not picky, but I have a type. I went upstairs and found the bathroom. A really big bathroom actually. I can see my mom decorated it with things in my recent home, and potted plants. How fancy actually.

I brushed my teeth, washed my face, brushed my hair out, and put my uniform on. The uniform didnโ€™t look exactly bad in my opinion. But it wasnโ€™t the look I was going for on a first day. Does everyone have to wear this kind of red? And what am I going to do with my hair. My hair was like every other Asian descent hair. it was up to my elbows, wavy, long, black, normal hair. But what can I do with it? UGH, actually, this wasnโ€™t a time to be stressing about first impressions. Who am I to try to impress anyone? Iโ€™ll blend in the whole time. I slid one side my of hair behind my ears and looked at the hooks on the bathroom wall from the mirror. A sweater. My moms to be exact. It was a beige, v-neck sweater, she had gotten from my dad as a gift on Motherโ€™s Day. Perfectโ€ฆso I grabbed the sweater and put it on top of my uniform. It was baggy. It was perfect.

โ€œMALLORY HURRY UP! YOU HAVE TO WALK TO SCHOOL YOU KNOW!โ€ My mom exclaimed from the bottom of the steps.

I ran down to see my mom had made โ€œbreakfastโ€. It was cereal. Soggy Plain fruit loop cereal.

โ€œUh, I think Iโ€™ll just skip my first day breakfast.โ€ I said awkwardly.

โ€œEh I didnโ€™t expect you to eat soggy breakfast. BUT, wait is that my sweater?โ€ My mom asked.

โ€œYeah, Iโ€™m just gonna wear it for today. And-โ€œ I got cut off.

โ€œAnd whats up with your hair mallory? You should do it in little braids, do you want me to do it quickly?โ€ My mother asked as she pulling my hair.

โ€œugh, itโ€™s fine mom, really. I was rushing and I really didnโ€™t even like my uniform.โ€ I stated while pulling my hair back.

โ€œHm, fair enough. Youโ€™re knapsack is on the couch, hurry up before your late. Itโ€™s 7:41, and school starts at 8. Better start walking..I think I saw Mrs.Kayโ€™s kid walk with a group of people not too long ago.โ€ My mother said.

I grabbed my knapsack and adjusted it onto my back. It wasnโ€™t heavy, so I donโ€™t think the walk would hurt my legs, which is good . I walked near the door.

โ€œBye mom, love you. Iโ€™ll see you around 3 or 4.โ€ I said before I headed out.

I walked out, and realize my mother was already getting ready for work. She wasnโ€™t the most affectionate person, so I can see why she didnโ€™t respond. I had reached the sidewalk and realized my mother didnโ€™t even give directions to the school, and I wasnโ€™t going to bother going back in to ask my somewhat busy mother how to get to school. Iโ€™m not going to be surprised if Iโ€™m late..*sigh*.

I speed walked towards out of the neighborhood gates, and realized there was actually students walking up the hill. They had the same uniform as me, just different colors. Ugh lucky, and some kids had cool colored bows, like darkish purple. I might as well had followed them up the hill, until I bumped into a girl. She didnโ€™t turn back to me, no, but she was beautiful. My few seconds hitting her bookbag, she smelled like oranges? But sweet. Her hair was all done, but I stayed behind her. I looked horrible standing right near her. I just followed her, whiling looking at the people who were going up the hill too. Not only that, I saw a wrinkly lady going up the hill with fruit. They were selling, and I even saw more carts filled with books. It was nice actually, it seemed like they were going up to the school. Smart, students will be up there to buy their products.

Crowd noises started to appear more louder. The school I saw from a far on my first day here, had been right in front of my eyes. It was nice, I saw groups of people laughing and greeting each other. Carts of fruits and greens circled the campus as students purchased their items.

Then the girl I had been following turned to me..

โ€œhey..uh i donโ€™t know who you are..but I didnโ€™t saw it back there, but Iโ€™ll say it now. Donโ€™t ever touch me, or follow me. Itโ€™s weird actually. Your uniform is all wrinkled up..are you like poor? How did you even afford to even-, actually never mind. Just take my word, and stay away from me. Thank you.โ€ The girl said with an awkward smile.

โ€œNo no, I am new. Thatโ€™s why I followed you to see where the school was. Iโ€™m Mallory, nice to meet you, sorry about the whole incident.โ€ I said

โ€œCute.. um, I donโ€™t think I need to state my name. Youโ€™ll know it soon actually. And itโ€™s fine or whatever, just donโ€™t do it again.โ€ The girl stated whiling walking towards the school entrance.

Iโ€™m going to be honest, the way she stated all of that, she seems like sheโ€™ll ruin my life. But it was a mistake. I knew someone so perfect couldnโ€™t be..so perfect after all. Iโ€™ll never be that nice to anyone again.. and whats the whole deal with me finding her name..โ€soonโ€. Is she really that known? Thereโ€™s like a hundred kids, what the hell. But if anything, Iโ€™ll not let this ruin my first day. I absolutely hated school, my day so far, my whole houseโ€ฆ and my life.. BUT ANYWAYS, I wasnโ€™t going to let this be a bad day on purpose.

So I walked towards the entrance, and from there I found the office. It was big, glass surrounded the top of the building and the side. Like a castle really..there was even a small garden in the middle. I could see students already starting to look around. I found the office area, and asked the man there, for my schedule, he had already had it ready for me.

โ€œWow thank you, that was quick heh.โ€ I said.

โ€œNo worries darling, thereโ€™s a map in between the papers. Youโ€™re actually one in the five people new here. Not much people move to Victorian, Canada.โ€ The man said with a smile.

โ€œ oh wow, well Iโ€™m glad to be here. have a good day sir, thank you again!โ€ I said smiling.

I turned back and grabbed the maps in between the papers. Then looked up. Lockers. People were all gathered either decorating their locker or practicing their combination. I didnโ€™t bother looking for my locker, I instead looked ahead at my schedule to see that History was my first class.

โ€œCould it get worse?? My map looks confusing as hell! How will I get to class in time. shit..โ€ I mumbled to myself.
