The Reflection Of Love

“Sarah, you ready?”

“Just let me finish my page!” I screamed, pulling the book away from him as he went to snatch it.

“We’re already running late.”

“I don’t even want to go,” I complained before I growled when he took my book and threw it to the other side of my bed. “I can’t dance. I can’t walk. You’ll probably ditch me so I’ll be left defending for myself.”

“Never,” he scoffed, taking my arms to pull me to my feet. I winced slightly, feeling how sore my ankles were as well as my stomach.

“Oliver, I don’t want to go,” I told him as he picked me up bridal style. “It feels wrong.”

“You’ll love it.”

“I can’t go out partying while Liam’s stuck in a stupid coma, okay? Just put me back to bed,” I said and he shook his head, clenching his jaw. “Helen!”

“She’s not here. It’ll be fun, okay?”

“No it won’t be.”

“How do you know?”

“How do you know it’ll be fun?” I replied, shrieking and looking at him hard as he looked back at me sternly. “I’m tired-.”

“You’re always tired.”

“Oliver,” I complained. “I don’t feel okay. I just want to stay here.”

“You can’t stay here alone.”

“We can watch a movie or we can play some games,” I said and swallowed hard as he turned around and into the lounge. “Thank you,” I sighed when he put me on the couch and walked back out. I groaned a little, looking towards the television before I looked around for the remote.

“Oliver!” I called when it was on the armchair. When he didn’t come or reply, I groaned again and pushed myself to get up. I used the couch to keep myself balanced but it hurt a lot and I knew I shouldn’t but I had to for the remote.

“What are you doing?” Oliver growled and I grunted, falling back onto the couch and wincing when my body ached.

“I need the remote,” I pointed to it but he was already getting it. I took it when he held it to me, shaking his head as I laid awkwardly and painfully on the couch, half on my front.

“Stop hurting yourself, how many times do I need to tell you?”

“Let’s go a hundred,” I replied and shifted uncomfortably, wincing and groaning when he put his hands under my arms and picked me up and sat me down right again.

“Who’s the idiot now?”

“You’ll always be the idiot,” I muttered, turning the television on as he walked back out. I went through all the channels twice and then a third time, seeing if anything new had come on since the last swipe through.

When I gave up on the television, I went onto Netflix to see if there would be anything I’d like to watch. I moved through the shows and movies as Oliver came back in, his arms full of food.

“Hungry much?” I muttered, watching him drop the chips, popcorn, biscuits and all onto the coffee table. He walked back and I just waited because he was back with cans of soda and cartons of beer and cider plus a few bottles of other alcoholic drinks.

“Explain,” I said as he set it all up, spreading the drinks and food out on the table.

“You wouldn’t come to the party,” he shrugged, his head swooning for a moment before he smirked at me, his eyes dangerously dark for that moment. “So I brought the party to us.”

“You did what?”

“Don’t worry. You look great.”

“Thank you but no thank you!” I yelled back, grabbing a cushion to throw at him only he caught it and threw it back. It hit my face, making me groan because I can’t believe he did that.

I said I didn’t want to go out. I didn’t want to party while Liam was unconscious and what does he go do?

“How could you do that?”

“Easy. It’s called a phone call-.”

“I don’t want to. It’s not fair to Liam that we do this without him-.”

“I know. I get it but stop being a baby because he’s okay and we’re allowed to have a good time. He’d rather us be having a good time than sook around and do nothing.”

“Says you,” I scoffed. “You weren’t eating or sleeping for days. Are you still or are you only eating around me?”

“Well, now I’m alright again and I want to have a good night. If you’re going to ruin that, break a leg trying to get to your room,” he said, walking away as I heard the house alarms sound through the hallway. I sighed softly, leaning back against the couch, hearing someone I knew too well yell out.

“Let’s get this party started!” Khloe jumped into the lounge, making me laugh as she jumped onto the couch next to me.

“Hey, I didn’t know you were coming.”

“Of course,” she smirked, her arms around my neck as I watched our usual group file into the lounge.

“Whoa. I didn’t know you were here,” one of the guys said, coming over to sit next to me. “How is everything?”

“Meh,” I shrugged, looked to Oliver with a small smile, telling him this was okay. He just rolled his eyes at me and sat down in the armchair.

“She’s a sitting duck so don’t ask her to dance,” he said, his tone mild as he reached for a beer as Khloe leaned into me.

“He’ll ask you to dance later.”

“Probably,” I muttered and she chuckled, kissed my cheek before she put her head down onto my shoulder. “Where’s Em?”

“It’s her brother’s birthday so she couldn’t join in. It’s okay though, she’s been with me a lot lately without you. I need a little break,” she murmured, making me laugh a little because I understood where she was coming from.

Emma was a lot when she wanted to be. Yes, she was quiet and usually calm but that dark side comes out now and then and she can be overwhelming at times.

“So, you’re living here now?” One of the other girls snorted. “Who’s idea was that?” She asked and I looked to Oliver softly but he wasn’t paying me any attention.

“My mum’s,” he rolled his eyes, putting up an act. I looked at Khloe since she knew the truth but she just shrugged.

“He likes to be the bad guy, let him be.”

“How’s it working out?” Genson next to me asked and I smirked to Oliver for a moment.

“It’s been fan-fucking-tastic,” I answered and most of them lit up in laughs.

“I’m not used to seeing you around in my living room, bathroom-.”

“Bed,” Alex coughed, got a mean look from Oliver as others laughed, Khloe included.

“No. Now that he’s got his own again, he keeps out of mine.”

“Oh, shut up,” Oliver growled and I shook my head lightly, leaning back again.

“What? Don’t want everyone to know you’ve caught feelings?”

“Ha,” he replied blankly, his eyes narrowing. “You’re the one dreaming about me.”

“What?” Alex laughed, leaning forward to get a handful of chips. “What were you imagining him doing? Stripping down, I bet.”

“No,” I told him sternly, looking to Oliver since he started it to stop it.

“Liam’s doing okay, by the way.”

“Oh yeah, forgot about him,” Alex said and I scowled, moving to throw a pillow at him.

“Then you’re a bad friend.”

“Chill, I forgot about you too,” he chuckled, holding his hands up. “Up until Khloe and Emma dragged my ass to your room…where is little moppet?”

“At her brother’s birthday dinner,” Khloe answered, shrugging. “Her loss.”

“Maybe you guys can come over after school tomorrow?” I murmured and she nodded, looking back at me. “So, what’s new?” I asked her and she hummed for a moment, pointed at Alex as he started a conversation with Oliver and the other guys.

“He asked Emma out and she said maybe. Maybe,” she laughed a little and slapped her forehead as I smirked a little, narrowing my eyes to Alex. “Poor guy, I feel the frustration. Sarah, who the fuck says maybe? It’s a yes or no question, is it not?”

“Maybe she hasn’t made her mind up yet,” I shrugged and she sighed. “I always thought he was gay?”

“Mhmm, same,” she replied and I just laughed, watching as Alex grabbed a handful of popcorn and shoved it into his mouth. “Perhaps not then. Anyway, Genson just got captain seat for the boys’ soccer team.”

“Hey, congrats,” I put in when Genson turned to us, obviously having heard us talking about him.

“Oh, thanks,” he smiled, leaning in closer to us. “A word to keep between us, it really wasn’t that hard,” he whispered, shaking his head a little as Khloe scoffed.

“Just because you’re a pro.”

“Thanks,” he smirked, leaned back as she rolled her eyes, shoved my shoulder softly.

“Emma practically yelled out to everyone how Oliver was sleeping with you at the hospital. And most of them didn’t take it the literal way,” she murmured next and I felt my cheeks burst as my eyes widen.

“No, really?”

“I had to hit her a few times to just shut her up. She was pretty mad about it all though back from the first time she told him off,” she sighed and moved forward, reaching for the packet of honey, soy and chicken chips to hold for us to eat.

“Khloe,” Natasha called, throwing a pillow at her face just as she went to eat a chip. I chuckled softly, watching her pull the pillow down to look at the girls on the floor. “Finally. Are you deaf? Truth or dare?”

“No, I’m not deaf, I just wasn’t paying attention,” she replied, smirking a little. “And dare,” she smiled, looked to me with wild eyes, making me smile back because I knew she loved this game. This insane and immature game. She loved the thrill, the risk and danger that came along with it and I respected her for the bravery and strength she had to do just about anything.

“I dare you,” Natasha started, looking around the room before she smirked, touched her hands together in her lap. “To give anyone you want a hickey.”

“Don’t say anyone,” I complained and gave Khloe a hard look as she turned to me.

“What are best friends for?”

“Are you a lesbian?”

“What?” She asked Alex, frowning at him. “No, I’d just rather give her a hickey than anyone else. Is that okay with you?”

“I mean, you can give me one-.”

“Eww,” she cut him off, giving him a disgusted look while I looked away and to Oliver for help but he looked the most amused I’d seen him since the accident.

He just smirked, raised a brow, knowing I was asking for help yet he wasn’t going to do anything.

“I hate you,” I mouthed and rolled my eyes when he mouthed back, “love you too.”

“Just don’t think about it too much,” Khloe said to me, pushing my head back to the couch. I groaned, closed my eyes and pulled a face when I felt her kiss my neck.

I can’t believe this is happening.

“C’mon. Surely some more action?”

“I’m crippled,” I reminded them, making them laugh as I felt her suck at my skin and a ripple of weird feelings started in my gut.

After a while, I swallowed and peeked an eye open as Khloe pulled back and wiped my neck, making me laugh.

“How does it look?” I whispered and she shrugged, scrunched her nose up.

“Like you got a hickey on your neck. Shit, Oli. Just wait until Emma sees that!” She exclaimed and Alex laughed, clapped his hands but Oliver didn’t look too impressed. Khloe laughed softly, squished my cheeks softly. “Truth or dare, Darling?”

“Truth,” I replied, the word coming out weirdly from my squished mouth.

“Dare? Good one,” she replied and I groaned, pulled away from her grip.

“Truth,” I repeated and she rolled her eyes.

“Fine,” she sighed and thought for a moment. “What’s literally the saddest thing you’ve ever been told?”

“Guess what! You’re moving in with your enemy,” Alex answered for me, making the others laugh as I thought back to my mum and that whole situation with her, Dad and New York.

I bit my tongue, looking at Khloe sadly as she seemed to stare back.

“Shit, what is it?” She whispered, coming closer as I moved my arm around her neck to hug her.

“My parents divorced a few days ago. My mum’s moving to New York and-and I have to go with her,” I whispered so no one else could hear. “I leave as soon as I’m better,” I murmured as she looked at me hard.

“Are you fucking serious?” She asked, narrowing her eyes as I nodded lightly. “What the fuck, Sarah?! Why didn’t you tell me before?”

“I didn’t know how, okay?”

“And you think this is the best way?”

“You dared me to.”

“What is it?” Oliver asked as Khloe stood up to walk away before she stopped and turned back to me.

“You’re not fucking with me, right?”

“No,” I told her sternly, felt my throat start to clog up in tears as she breathed, blinking and looking up to try to stop her tears.

“Let me guess, Liam got you pregnant.”

“Alex, for once in your life, shut the fuck up,” Oliver said calmly, waving a hand up as he stood. “They’re not intimate, everyone knows that,” he said, looking from Khloe to me as I kept my head down.

I can’t believe I just told my best friend about New York like that. And in front of everyone else. That was stupid of me.

“It’s nothing,” I told Oliver as he sat down next to me.

“My parents just broke up-.”

“Oh yeah and sending her to fucking New York,” Khloe blurted and I looked at Oliver as he looked over me softly before his jaw clenched and I knew the anger was leveling up. “We’ll never see you again.”

“Don’t say that,” I shook my head, looking towards her. “There are phones, we can facetime. I’ll see you when I come back to see my dad.”

If I’ll ever see him again.

“Just, if Liam wakes up before I go, no one tell him anything. I want to tell him,” I told them, watched most of them nod, Khloe included. I looked to Oliver as he stayed still.

“I said I was sick of waiting,” he murmured and looked to me. “Now it’s all going too fast.”

“Oliver,” I said when he got up and made his way out, pulling Khloe out with him by her arm. I watched them disappear into the hallway before I looked to Genson as he took my hand with his.

“How long do you have left?” He asked and I took a breath.

“A few weeks, until I’m healed enough to fly,” I answered.

“I’m sorry. That sucks,” Natasha said and I nodded in agreement. “Oliver seemed pissed.”

“Because he likes her,” Alex put in as if she was dumb and I just shook my head.

“So everyone keeps saying,” I muttered, looking towards the hall and wondering what Oliver wanted with Khloe.
