Chapter 21

“I need to talk to Vic” I said

“Ria, love you’re not leaving right?” he asked his eyes alarmed.

I sighed.

I wrapped my arms around his neck pulling him closer to me, “No. I’m not leaving. You should have told me this before but I understand why you didn’t. I need to know if Vic has any idea about how vile our father can be.”

He kissed me urgently, my hands going to his hair pulling at the strands and his arms holding my waist pulling me to him. He growled moving away, “We need to leave now before I decide to keep you here to myself.”

I smiled rubbing our noses together and we walked back to the hall holding hands.

When we returned both our fathers were arguing loudly, “She won’t accept him now, I know my daughter, let us peacefully leave King Harry.”

“Watch how you speak to me Liam, I won’t tolerate your tantrums” King harry replied sternly.

“I need to speak to Victor” I deadpanned.

Victor approached me, “Are you alright?” Giving Jake the stink eye.

I ignored the curious glances of my father,

I took Victor’s hand and brought him to the chambers I was staying in, I didn’t realise Jacob had followed us until we entered the chambers.

“Jake I need to speak with Victor alone.” He looked unwilling to leave me alone with Victor.

I went to him, and gave him a peck on cheek to reassure him, “Please I need to do this” he gave me a nod and left closing the door behind him.

I looked back at Victor and he looked ill.

He came to me and held my arms, “Tori, what is going on?”

“Vic before you ask me anything, is there something you wish to tell me?”

He looked confused.

“Why is the war taking place Victor?”

His eyes became guarded.

I laughed in derision, “So it is true? The crimes father committed?”

“Tori he is a good father, don’t speak about him this way” Victor uttered.

“I know Vic, I know that, he’s an excellent father. What I don’t understand is why would he… if you weren’t ashamed of his.. misdeeds, why didn’t any of you tell me about it? Why am I only getting to know about this now.”

His eyes warmed at me, “Mother didn’t want you know about this little sister, not because you are not important to us but because she wanted to protect you from… the things that could corrupt your innocence. Father loved the way you looked upto him, he didn’t want you to feel ashamed of him.”

“If he knows what he did is wrong, why can’t he just apologise?”

“It is not as easy as you think. Things are complicated, it wouldn’t matter even if he apologized, the war would take place, aunt wouldn’t forgive him”

I understood, I mean I couldn’t blame the woman who lost her husband and then was humiliated to such an extent..

“I don’t want you to go to war Vic” I whispered

He tensed, “You know I have to”

“No, no you don’t! We weren’t even born then, these are not your sins, you shouldn’t be punished for something you had no part in. This war is going to ge gruesome. Jake won’t go if I tell him not to, and you won’t either. What if somethings happens to you Vic, no you.. you can’t leave. I can’t lose you.” I cried.

“Tori calm down, if there is a war on our kingdom I have to be present in the war, you know that.”

“Yes but not this fight Vic, this is going to be utterly damaging, all the kingdoms are involved in this battle.”

He hugged me, “You needn’t worry about it, I’ll handle it.”

“Have some trust in me, little sister.” he said tightly.

My body slumped, he wouldn’t listen to me. I understood his reasons but how could I let him do this to himself? I sighed and nodded, giving in for now.

He gave me a sad smile.

“Promise me, you’ll be safe big brother.”

“I promise.” he gave me a kiss on my forehead.

I smiled a little when when he gave my shoulder a squeeze.

His eyes clouded, “I told you the truth Tori, now it’s your turn to answer my questions. Honestly.”
