Chapter 25

Jacob’s POV.

She looked at me and laughed.

“It’s not funny Ria, do you have any idea how painful that was?” I softly whispered.

Her laugh seized immediately and I wished I could take my words back as her expression turned painful.

“I’m so sorry Jake, my intention wasn’t to hurt you. Its just that… Victor gave me an ultimatum.” she whispered.

My jaw ticked, “What ultimatum?”

“Please don’t be angry, he just.. he thought I was a prisoner here because he was sure you wouldn’t allow me to leave.” her face looked stressed but I needed her to say it.

“And?” I waited impatiently for her to tell me what I already knew now.

“He said if you announced infront of everyone that I can leave, he’ll support us but if you don’t… then.. then-

“Then what Victoria?” I shouted.

“Then I’ll leave with him” she whispered.

“And you agreed.” I said in anger.

“I knew you’d agree, I knew that our bond is strong” she gave me a small smile.

“But what if I would’ve said no? Not because I don’t love you or respect you enough to make your own decisions but I could see it in your father’s eyes that you would never return to me? Why do you think Victor left you here until he could prepare for the wedding Victoria? Even he knew, if you left with them your father won’t allow you to even meet me let alone marry me.” I yelled at her.

“I’m sorry but I thought this was a good way to make Victor believe in us, it seemed logical to-

“To hurt me?” I said in a harsh voice. “I was ready to leave the war, the war that I was prepared for since I was a child. I was ready to abandon my kingdom, my throne, my everything, and yet you still wanted to what? Test my love for you?”

“No, no not to hurt you. And ofcourse I trust you Jake, I wasn’t testing you, please believe me. I just-” she tried touching me but for the first time I moved back not allowing her to touch me. Her face fell.

“Jake” she whispered brokenly.

I shook my head and stormed back inside to my chambers.

Victoria’s POV.

Jake, my Jake left me standing alone because he couldn’t bear to look at me. When I had agreed to Victor’s ultimatum I hadn’t thought it would cause Jake so much hurt otherwise I wouldn’t have agreed at all but.. oh god what am I going to do now.

I didn’t notice Nicholas joining me until he said, “Everything okay Victoria?”

I pushed back my tears and nodded at Nicholas.

“Do you want to go for a walk?” he asked calmly.

“Sure.” I smiled

“So Jacob’s angry?” he asked carefully.

I paused, “You saw that?”

“Yeah never thought I’d see a day when he’d be angry at you.” he gave me a small smile.

My lips wobbled, “He’s hurt, there’s a difference.”

Nicholas gave me a kind smile, “Forgive me I didn’t mean to eavesdrop.

My brother he doesn’t love easily Victoria but when he does, he loves deeply. For you he’d give his life, so to him it must have felt like a betrayal when you accepted a challenge by your brother so you could test his love for you.”

I gulped.

“I trust him. He means the world to me, my intention was never to hurt him. I thought if Victor understood our relationship, it would open doors for me and Jake.” I shook my head as a tear dropped. “What can I do? How can I make it better Nicholas?”

He sighed, “Honestly I have no idea, I just think you shouldn’t leave him alone right now, even if he says something out of anger don’t take it to your heart. Stick with him otherwise he’ll build a wall between the two of you.”

He smiled, “Go be with him Victoria, he needs you.”

I nodded gratefully and left in search of my Prince.
