Chapter 1

Adrian's POV

After the meeting, I waited impatiently for twenty minutes for Azura, but she didn't come. I was not keen on coffee, I already had two cups, which was more than my usual, I just wanted to see Azura. I was about to yell at Liam in frustration when there was a soft knock on my door.

Azura came in looking ravishing, as a loose tendril escaped from her bun and fluttered about her lips as she brought in a tray loaded with food.

She placed the tray on the centre table as I got up and locked the door. I approached her and stood in front of her, close enough to inhale her intoxicating scent. "You're late," I told her. "Where's my coffee?" I asked looking at the tray full of food.

"You need food now, not coffee," she said as she looked here and there, avoiding my eyes.

"Oh? Do you care about my needs?"I asked as I went closer to her, trailing my hand down her cheek, fixing that loose tendril behind her ear as she trembled like a leaf.

"Please Adrian, I need to go," she said and turned to go. I caught her waist and pulled her into my arms.

"Have lunch with me Azura," I asked her, wishing in my heart that she would say yes.

"I can't, I have work to do," she said as she shifted in my arms. I loved the feel of her body in my arms, as if she belonged there. I didn't want her to go. I tightened my embrace as she put her soft hands on my chest.

"Then take your lunch away, I don't need it," I argued.

She looked into my eyes for a moment,"Alright, I'll eat with you," she said as I guided her to the love seat and made her sit beside me, brushing my leg against hers as she blushed like a tomato.

I heaped a plateful and handed it to her. I also took the same for myself. "I've never seen you here before," I said to her as we ate together.

"I joined yesterday," she told me.

"Oh, is this your first job?" I asked her. I wanted to know everything about her.

"Oh no, this is my fifth. I've started working since the age of 12," she said with a sad smile.

I nodded, not knowing what to say. She was just a child then, yet her parents made her start working at twelve years of age.

She finished her food in record time, she must have been very hungry. "I've got to go, there's work to be done and Mr Wilson, our manager will not be happy," she said as she got up to clear the table. I was also done with eating. "Thank you," she said and left with the empty tray before I could say a word.

I tried to focus on my work and get some of it done. After struggling to concentrate for three hours, I was really relieved when the door opened. However, my happiness turned to disappointment when Theo, my best friend waltzed in with a grin on his face. "Hey, man, where were you since morning?" He asked with a smirk.

" I've been here at office. Why?" I asked irritatedly.

"Check your phone, I've called you a million times already," he complained gesturing for me to pick up my phone and check.

I picked up and saw 2 missed calls from him. "Million times?" I asked glaring at him.

"Whatever, you didn't pick up, so I called your Mr Liam and he gave me a vivid description of what went on since morning. Your sudden addiction to coffee and to a certain hot barista," he said cheekily, eyes shining with excitement.

"Cut the crap, why are you here?" I asked him with s smirk.

"You're breaking my heart, dude," he said clutching his heart melodramatically.

"You have one? I thought you donated it to the chick you took home last night," I answered as I buzzed Liam.

"Oh no, I don't give my heart to anyone. I only give pleasure. Last night was the best so far," he said as he went into his dreamland.

"Anything I can get for you both, sir?" Liam asked coming inside in a rush.

"Just coffee, ask Azura to bring two cups of coffee," I instructed as he went to do as instructed.

"Who's Azura? What a hot name!" Theo said chuckling as I glared at him, "Is she the one you're obsessing over since morning?"

"I'm not. She just makes awesome coffee," I lied looking at my laptop.

"That's all? Then you wouldn't mind me taking her for a ride?" He asked grinning.

I got up from my seat in anger. "Don't you dare Theo, she's off limits. She's mine. Only mine," I said as Theo laughed heartily.

"You're whipped man, I have to meet her. You've fallen bad for her," he said seriously.

I stared blankly outside the huge glass windows, at the evening sky, "I don't know, Theo. I can feel that she's the one for me."

He clapped my back,"Go for it then, bro."

Liam entered with a worried look. "Sir Azura's gone for the day. Should I ask another barista to make your coffee?" He asked as I nodded.

"No," I said with disappointment coursing through me.

Theo gave me a bro hug,"I'll be on my way, then?
Call you later," he said as I nodded and he left.

I tried to focus on my work. There were two presentations prepared by the marketing team that I had to approve of. By 8pm, I couldn't focus on anything, so I left the office and going to the parking lot, started my car.

As I steered out onto the streets, I saw a familiar figure walk slowly with her head down, a huge backpack on her shoulder. She was wearing a pair of denims which fitted her perfectly, and a coral tank top with her long hair tied up in a bun. There was something familiar about her. She walked to the nearby bus stop and as she turned, I stayed hypnotised at my spot. Azura!

What was she doing here so late at night? Her duty got over three hours ago. I stopped the car right in front of her. Rolling my window down I said to her,"I'll drop you, get in Azura." She stared wide eyed at me first, then composing herself, she nodded.

"No, I can take the bus," she said trying to ignore me.

I got out of my car as all the others at the bus stop stared at me. I caught Azura by her wrist and pulled her towards the car."Sir, please, I can manage," she said as I turned a deaf ear to her protests.

Opening the passenger door, I seated her, then going around to the driver's seat, I sat down and fixed my seat belt. Then leaning towards her with my face inches from hers, I fixed her belt too, staring into her azure blue eye, drowning in their hypnotic depths. "You call me that and I will kiss you so hard that you will remember my name, even in your dreams," I whispered as my eyes dropped to her red, dewy lips, which opened slightly as she gasped at my words and her cheeks turned crimson.

When she looked away and out of the window in embarrassment, I started the car,"Where do you live?"

"Brooklyn, East New York, Milford street," she said as I drove towards Brooklyn.

"You got off three hours ago?" I asked unable to stop myself.

"Yeah, I had online classes. I don't have wifi at home. So I study at the staff room," she said as I was dumbfounded by her simple answer.

"You study and go home everyday at this time?" I asked unable to keep the worry out of my mind.

"Yeah," she said blankly.

"Don't your parents worry about you?" I asked in confusion.

"I don't have parents," she said as I stopped the car at the side and looked at her.

"I'm sorry Azura, I didn't know," I said angry at myself for being such an insensitive fool.

"That's ok. I didn't mind," she said quietly looking out of the window. I stopped my interrogations and drove her to her destination. She gave me the directions till we reached an old shabby building. I stopped and looked around at the dirty neighbourhood. Azura smiled and uttering a quick 'thank you' disappeared into the house as fast as her legs could carry her.
