I'm Not Letting Her Go

We Don't Harm Our Friends

“What the fuck were you doing over there? What did you say to her?” I have my hands placed on my knees, so I don’t accidentally kill my best friend. When he sat his tray down at her table, my heart started racing. I didn’t know what he was up to, but I know Andy and It’s never well.

Then when he moved his face to within inches of her, it took all my self-control not to stand up, walk over to him, and grab him by the back of his neck. Dragging him away from her.

“Relax, I’m not hitting on your girl at all,” there’s a growl to the side interrupting the rest of what he was going to say.

Looking over we see Patty; she has her arms folded along her chest. Possession is in her eyes. “Fuck off Patty,” Andy says then looks to me.

“I was just introducing myself, since you didn’t have the decency to earlier.” He smiles at me.

“Yeah, well you were eying her like a piece of your favorite apple pie.” I grumble.

He laughs out right. So hard he’s practically shaking our table. “Damn right I was.”

I don’t even realize the growl that makes its way up my throat. He must hear it though because he stops laughing, wipes the corner of his eye, and straightens his shoulders. “Hey now man, you know me I wouldn’t even try it, but you cannot stop any man from noticing just how gorgeous that girl is.” He points behind his back at her.

Wiping my hand down my face, I’m doing what I can to calm the fuck down. He’s right any man can see just how stunningly beautiful she is, I cannot stop anyone from admiring her. I sure as hell can stop anyone from touching her though. Putting my hand behind my neck I rub it furiously.

Andy must see my demeanor change because a sly smile grows on his lips. “On it.” He says before shooting out of his chair and making his way around the cafeteria. If anyone can get the word out that the new girl, Scarlett, I chastise myself. I need to get used to her name. It’ll be coming out of my mouth in a purr more times than I can count.

Andy is a motor mouth, he’s as bad as a teenage girl. So, I know by the end of lunch the word will be spread that she’s mine. Meaning to everyone in this school, in this town, hell in this state will keep their hands off her.

“What’s up with that?” Donny asks as he and Cody place their trays on the table, and slide into the seats next to me.

“Andy is just laying down my law to every male within the vicinity.” I shrug my shoulders.

Cody looks confused, his brows are scrunched, and he’s eyeing me like I lost my dam mind. Maybe he’s right, I only just saw this girl a couple hours ago, and already my body is an electrical outlet. Awaiting until I can get my hands on her. I look to the man sitting beside me, raising my brow I silently tell him what’s up.

Understanding is in his eyes, he nods his head, straightens his shoulders, and downs one of his three milks. I hear a sigh to my left across the table. I look to my cousin Donny and he’s shaking his head, his eyes alight with mirth.

“You got something you want to say?” I fold my arms over my chest and glare at him.

“Nope,” he says popping the ‘p’ for emphasis. “Just was thinking that it’s true what our grandfather always said.” He smiles at me before taking a bite of his pizza.

“What are you talking about?” My frustration is getting to a dangerous level.

“That it’s true what they say about us King’s.” He looks at me as though he’s waiting for me to get what he’s saying.

He must see the confusion in my eyes because he continues. “The curse of falling in love is true, and once you see the one woman that captures all your attention,” he pauses and takes a minute to take a sip of his soda. Leaving me in suspense.

I reach above the table and knock it out of his hand, “Testy” he says. “As I was saying that’s its game over. She’s yours, no one else, and she doesn’t get a choice. You will hunt her down, and not give her a chance to escape your clutches.” He shrugs as though he didn’t just drop a major bomb on me.

“Now I have to go get another soda.” He growls as he stands up and walks over to the machine.

Leaving me in a state of panic. That’s not what this is. No way, I don’t believe in love. There’s no chance that a man like me can love. I just want to get her horizontal. Get her beneath me screaming my name. Once she’s out of my system I don’t care who has her. I decide then and there that’s what I’ll do. Get her beneath me screaming my name for one night, ridding her from my mind.
