Bully

“Hey,” Adrian called as he entered the cafè the next day.

We had spent at least a couple hours almost every day together. We talked on the phone every night, normally on speaker so Adrian could talk to Ally. I was extra glad to see him that day though; I was working alone with Travis and he was starting to freak me out. Almost no one was in, but I still felt the blush creeping into my cheeks. I was able to ignore Travis glaring at me, as he spun his coffee in his hands.

“Hey,” I greeted much more quietly when Adrian got to the counter.

He leaned closer and I met him halfway, revelling in the feeling of his lips on mine. I chuckled as he pulled away.

“Is that allowed?” He asked, grinning lopsidedly at me.

I bit my bottom lip and shrugged in a “who cares” way.

“You want to go out to ice cream after work? We both get off early.” He asked.

I frowned, biting my lips as I considered leaving Aaliyah again so soon after our overnight debacle.

“We would swing by your place first.” He said discreetly.

I smiled widely, nodding.

“You’re not talking much, are you okay?” He asked, and I remembered him saying that I only stuttered when I was afraid.

I glazed at Travis quickly, noting the daggers he was glaring at us, before responding. “I-I’m okay. J-just tired.”

He eyed Travis disbelievingly. “I have to run out to the car really quick. I think I forgot my wallet. If you are due for a break then go ahead and make yourself a coffee too, I’ll pay.”

I didn’t want him to go but as he smiled at me I suddenly realized he wanted me to trust him here. So I just nodded, before turning to make our drinks.

“You seriously think he likes you?” Travis’s voice was loaded with jealous spite.

I could feel him standing right behind me now and I was afraid to turn around. I took a deep breath then turned to face him with the best stoic expression I could muster. I tried to go around him but he stepped forward until his chest was almost touching mine.

My heart skipped a beat and I winced as he spoke again. “What does some pathetic mute have to offer someone like him?”

“B-back off.” I stammered, placing my empty hand on his chest to push him away.

To my relief he took a step back. However then he grabbed my arm squeezing it tightly as he stepped forward again. I squeaked in terror and he chuckled.

“Let her go.” Adrians voice was right behind Travis, and I relaxed slightly hearing it.

Travis growled low in his throat and turned his head to glare at Adrian.

“If you want to keep your hand in one piece, I would highly suggest listening to him.” Andrew’s voice startled me, what was he doing here.

Travis spat angrily before throwing my hand down. He ripped off his apron and stormed out of the cafe. I collapsed onto the floor with a sob of relief.

Within seconds Adrian was sitting next to me with his arms wrapped tightly around me.

“I’m sorry, I knew he would do something as soon as I left but I couldn’t stay all day.” He explained.

I nodded, melting into his embrace. I looked up just as Drew knelt in front of us.

“Are you hurt?”

I shook my head. Despite this he reached over and gently grabbed my hand examining the wrist. He frowned unhappily.

“Kolotrypida! The ginete me autin these travaei mesha.” Adrians voice was quiet, and somehow more dangerous sounding because of it.

“Adrian?” I asked, laying my palm against his cheek.

He leaned into it, taking a deep breath and whispered. “I love you.”

“I love you too.” I responded.

I looked up to see Drew smiling happily at me.

“What are you doing here?” I asked curiously.

“You seemed nervous when you said you were working with dickhead today. I just figured I would check in on you while I was on lunch break.” He shrugged.

“Thank you.” I responded.

“Where is Ally today?” Adrian asked as he stood helping me to my feet.

“Why?” I asked frowning.

“I was just curious.” He responded awkwardly.

“He just wants to help keep tabs on his girlfriend’s child.” Drew said. “Be nice.”

“She’s with Balissa at the daycare today.” I blushed. “Sorry, I’m over cautious when it comes to her.”

“That’s what makes you such a great mom.” He assured me with a shrug. “Are you still going to be up for ice cream?”

I nodded, “I have to call my boss. I can’t run the cafe by myself.”

“She’s going to find someone else. We are going to the police.” Drew said confidently.

“No.” I shook my head, “I can’t.”

“If he gets away with it this time he’ll think he can do worse to the next girl.” Drew demanded crossing his arms.

“What if Garret sees it.” I demanded.

“He won’t, he wouldn’t have any reason to check the public records.” Drew said less certainly. “Plus he hasn’t come yet, the chances he’s still looking for revenge is slim.”

“Are you insane?!” I snapped, “ I won’t take that risk!”

“Who’s Garret?” Adrian asked.

“Aaliyah’s uncle. He swore to hurt Ally because Jessica put his brother in prison for life.” Drew said with a sigh.

I felt blood rush into my cheeks, this wasn’t the first mention of Aaliyah's father in front of Adrian. However I still waited for the questions, for him to demand answers, but it didn’t come.

“Jess…” Drew started but I cut him off.

“No.” I glared at him, “I have a call to make.”
