It was time for the talk.

We had been putting it off for weeks, while we enjoyed wedded bliss but it was time to face reality.
After we had breakfast that morning, when we had dropped AJ at my parents’ for the weekend, we took the jet and flew out immediately. I surprised her with a romantic holiday in St Lucia, in the Caribbean. I had bought for us a private villa on Jade Mountains as a wedding present.
She thought I was being purely romantic and spontaneous, but I was literally putting her in a corner. I needed to get her alone without any distractions. Don’t get me wrong, I wanted to spend some quality time with my wife, I’ve been looking forward to it for a very long time.

We took off and the view from above was almost as breathtaking as the beauty sitting next to me. She looked so happy and tranquil that I felt like an ogre for spoiling the moment.
“I know you’ve been avoiding this,” I turned down the volume on the TV and threw the remote to the side. “But we need to go back to college opens next week. What are we going to do, cookie?”

She tucked her legs under her plaid skirt and gnawed at her lower lip. Her hair was free, the long, loose curls cascading down her shoulders and back. “Can we talk about this-”

“Now,” I said firmly, clasping her hand. “We’re going to talk about this now. We can’t-we need to do this, baby.”

“How about we do something more interesting…” she trailed a finger down my chest.

“Please, Laura-Jane?” I pressed. “We have to do this. Not only for us but for Ashton.”

“I can’t transfer him again,” she frowned at the thought. “He’s changed schools three times already. I can’t do that to him again, Corbyn.”

“Then why don’t we do this…” I hesitated as her troubled gaze ran over my face. “I will stay with AJ and you can go back to New York?”

“But I don’t want to be apart from you guys again.”

“I don’t want you to leave New York on my account, cookie,” I cupped her soft cheek and brushed her delicate jawline with my thumb. “I could never ask that of you.”

Dark brows crouched over equally dark eyes. “Would you be prepared to move to New York?”

I pulled away from her, propping up on an elbow as I studied her face. “I can’t baby, you know that.”

“Looks like we have a stalemate,” she sighed and snuggled against me.

The silence stretched between them at the impasse.
“Not necessarily, we will work it out.”

“As I said before,” I repeated. “AJ can stay here with me-”

“I can’t do that,” she argued.

“Why not?”

She huffed and pulled her hand away/ “AJ is my responsibility-”

My frown deepened. “So, am I going to be his father in name only?”

“That’s not what I meant-”

“Then I stand to be corrected.”

“Stop being unreasonable, honeycomb,” she rubbed her eyes and sat up, peering out the window. “This is why I didn’t want to discuss this.”

“Avoiding it isn’t going to make the problem go away.”

“So, I’m a problem now?” she muttered. “Nice to know.”

“That’s not-” I let out a long breath. “What do you want me to do, Blue? How are we going to fix this?”

“I don’t know...” she said, resigning to defeat. “What I do know is that I don’t want to be away from you or our son.” Her fingers touched my chin and slid down my throat, before resting her palms on my chest.
“Then don’t,” I caressed her arms and stared into her arresting blue eyes. “You can just finish the rest of the year and move back to LA. Or maybe I can move to New York next year?”

“No,” she shook her head adamantly. “No more moving after this. Our home is here. I should be here with you and our son.” She fingered the buttons on my shirt before slipping her hands around to the back of my neck. “Have I told you how much I love you?”

“Not recently…” a smile of invaded my face.

“I love you, Corbyn Coleman. My sweet husband.”

“I will never get tired of hearing that…”
“I will never get tired of saying it.”

“For the record, I love you too,” I bent down and kissed her nose. “My crazy wife.”

“Take that back!” she laughed and punched my shoulder. “There’s something I need to tell you…” She looked nervous and uncomfortable and avoided my gaze.

“What is it?”

“I..uh..I’m..” she creased her brows and closed her eyes.
“Please fasten your seatbelts were about to land,” the captain’s voice interrupted.

“Tell me?” I prodded as we buckled up.

“I’d rather show you,” she said.
“It’s nothing kinky is it?” I raised an eyebrow.

“No…” she rolled her eyes dramatically. “Far from it actually.”

“Am I going to like whatever it is you want to tell-sorry show me?”

“I don’t know,” she shrugged, still looking anxious. “We’ll just have to wait and see.”

“Why do you look like I won’t?”

“Because I’m not sure…” There was that look again. Something was wrong.

“Whatever it is…”

“I know you love me and we will get through it,” she read my mind like an open book.
“And I can’t wait to get you alone…” I winked.

“I doubt it’s as bad as I do…”

“Just so you know,” I flashed her a naughty smile. “I spent a lot of time with the boys and…let’s just say they further enlightened me…”

“Oh gosh, this exactly what I was afraid of...” she groaned and shook her head. “But you might as well know that I’m way ahead of you my sweet little innocent.”

I stretched my legs, folded my hands over my chest, and gave her a smug smile. “We’ll see who is innocent after tonight…”
