Life as Usual
Kaiya put her bag in the passenger seat and the rest of her papers on top of it. She walked over to the door of the house and locked it and pulled out the keys. She looked briefly at the weather outside. Nice and sunny. She walked over to the driver side and hopped in. As she turned on the ignition, her cell phone rang. It was Marcel.
“Hello?” she answered.
“Hi!” an enticing male voice said. “Where are you?”
“I was just leaving home,” Kaiya replied. “I am in the car.”
“Hmm,” was the throaty reply. “Just wanted to wish you all the best in your meeting,” he added.
Kaiya took a deep breath. “I needed that,” she confessed.
“Hey, you’ll do great,” Marcel assured.
“Thanks,” Kaiya said genuinely almost able to see Marcel’s green eyes and breathtaking smile.
“Bye,” he finished off, “I love you.”
“I love you too,” Kaiya said. “Bye.”
She hung up feeling better and less nervous. She backed the car up and exited her driveway. As she was straightening the vehicle to head off, a big container truck stopped at the driveway next door. The house was sold and remained empty for a little less than two months. Finally someone had come.
Not paying much attention, Kaiya drove off to her meeting. Kaiya was an interior decorator and worked closely with a couple of interior decorating corporate bodies but mostly she was a freelancer. Today’s meeting, as always, made her nervous. She took a deep breath and remembered Marcel’s words. You’ll do great. I will do great. I am the best they have and I am the best there is. She assured herself there was nothing to lose and she had done her homework and was ready for her presentation.
She decided to meet up with Marcel for lunch as soon as the meeting was over. Quick time check- ten forty. Not so bad. She had almost reached her destination. She parked her car and got off taking her folders and papers along with her.
As she pushed open the huge wooden door of the restaurant and walked in, she bumped into a tall figure. Her folder flew to the ground.
“I am so sorry,” she said crouching over to collect her fallen items. Kaiya didn’t even look at who she bumped into. She didn’t notice that he was still standing there. She stood up again and started walking. A familiar scent toyed with her senses. Halfway to her destination table, something made Kaiya turn back to see who she bumped into.
Obviously the tall figure was making its way outside the door but Kaiya couldn’t help but notice a huge muscular fully tattooed arm exiting the door. She frowned at herself then turned back to head to her table.
The presentation went well and the clients seemed impressed. They talked a bit over coffee and settled for some minor changes to Kaiya’s design. Kaiya was impressed that she managed to satisfy her clients. It’s not that she needed money, she was just very passionate about her work and she did all that she could to give her clients the look and feel they were after. She was complimented as a designer who could turn an old piece of history to a modern delight.
Kaiya gathered her things again and headed off towards her car. She thought to call Marcel and tell him she would stop by for lunch. Then she discarded the idea and thought to surprise him. She reached his office and parked her car and walked into the reception.
“Hello there!” an older lady from the reception booth greeted politely.
“Hello Jenny,” Kaiya replied at the lady. Jenny was always smiling and definitely a very polite woman at heart.
“How are you today?” Jenny enquired.
“I am good thank you,” Kaiya smiled genuinely.
“Mr. Hunter is in a meeting right now. I will just call him to say you’re here,” Jenny informed reaching for the telephone.
“Oh no that’s ok,” Kaiya stated. “I am in no rush. I will just wait for him.”
“Alright then,” Jenny stated. “You know where to go.”
“Thank you.” Kaiya smiled at the other lady and made her way towards Marcel’s cabin. She waited in his guest lounge for his meeting to be over. Kaiya pulled out her tablet and looked through her schedule of appointments. Today was Thursday and there was nothing scheduled for Friday. And luckily she had the weekend off. Great!
After a good half hour wait, the huge doors to Marcel’s cabin opened and three suited gentlemen walked out shaking hands with Marcel. They said their formal goodbyes before Marcel spotted Kaiya in the waiting area.
She smiled at him as she stood up. Marcel had a good six foot two inches broad frame. His green eyes were shielded by glasses that he wore when he needed. He had an astonishing smile with thin lips that opened up to even white teeth. He looked great in his ivory suit with mint green shirt and tie. He walked straight over to Kaiya and planted a kiss on her lips embracing her with a brief hug.
“What a pleasant surprise,” he said walking her towards his cabin taking his glasses off. Once inside he slid his arms around her waist and held her tight against the door. “What brings you here Mrs. Hunter,” he said in a velvety tone. “Did you know I was missing you?”
Kaiya let out a small laugh. She loved his warm embrace. She could spend hours attached to his hard chest inhaling his delicious scent. She put her arms around his neck. “Maybe…” she teased him reaching up to kiss his lips.
“I needed that,” he said. “Now you have me drugged and I am of no use to this organization,” he returned her kiss as she let out a giggle.
After five years of being married to this man, he still had the power to turn her bones to jelly with just one kiss. “I came to ask you out for lunch,” Kaiya said still overwhelmed by his warm arms and his enticing kiss.
“Hmm,” Marcel replied looking down into her big brown eyes. “It’s been a while since I have been asked out for a date. Kaiya smiled and raised an eyebrow. “But I must say, the offer is irresistible,” he added in a seductive tone.
Kaiya giggled and pulled at his tie bringing him closer. “So that’s a yes?” she teased him.
“Definitely yes to you anytime anyplace my love,” he said inching forward to kiss her.
“So I’ll see you downstairs in five,” she laughed quickly turning the knob of the door she stepped out before he could kiss her.
Marcel laughed aloud at her playfulness as the door quickly shut behind her. He removed is coat and put his glasses on the table before reaching for his cell phone and followed her outside.
They had lunch at a fancy restaurant nearby. Marcel and Kaiya felt like they were on their first date again. This was the very restaurant they had come to for their first date. Once desert was ordered, Marcel shifted closer and held Kaiya’s hand in his. He looked into her eyes and kissed her knuckles.
“You’ve made my life worth living and I want you to know that every little thing you do for me and for us isn’t unnoticed,” he paused as his eyes lightened in color. “Everything you do matters and you mean the world to me.”
Kaiya searched his face impressed by his honesty and appreciation and startled by his sudden change. She reached out and cupped his face with one hand. “Baby, that’s so sweet. You’re going to make me cry.” Kaiya kissed his lips softly.
“That’s the last thing I want to do Kaiya,” he said. His eyes had become serious and glassy.
“What’s the matter honey,” Kaiya searched his face stroking his chin with her thumb.
“The matter is,” Marcel started as he took her hand in his and gave it a little squeeze. “I love you from the depths of my soul and I want to spend the rest of the years of my life with you,” he finished still looking into her eyes. He pulled out a small box and put it her hand. Kaiya looked at the box in shock. He reached and planted a kiss on her forehead. “Happy anniversary love,” he stated in a heart touching tone.
Kaiya’s eyes shot up to meet his. Her brown eyes were wide in surprise. How did she forget? She had remembered until last night but in the nervousness of her meeting it slipped her mind. “I am lost for words,” she exclaimed opening the box. “I don’t know what to say,” she continued startled as she opened the box.
“Say you love me,” Marcel said.
“Oh I do love you, Kaiya said reaching out to hug him. Her hand toyed with the hair at the back of his neck. “Why do you have to be so sweet hubby?” She gently kissed his lips and then looked into his eyes. “I love you, beyond what words can describe.”
“That’s all I want to know,” Marcel confirmed kissing her again.
After lunch Kaiya dropped Marcel off to his office and headed home. She pulled into her driveway and noticed a lot of cartons stacked on the neighbor’s front porch. There was a red convertible parked out front. Kaiya was sure she had seen the car somewhere. She parked her car and got off. She walked over to the other side and picked up her folder, laptop and jacket.
