Chapter 37

She doesn’t know about the little black velvet box in my pocket. I plan to ask her to marry me tonight. I got Addy’s blessing a few weeks ago. My sisters helped me pick out the perfect ring. Now I just had to propose to the girl and pray she said yes. We decided we would wait until after college but I was impatient. I didn’t want to wait any longer. I was ready to call this woman my wife, make her mine in every way. I wanted her to strut this life with my last name. When she broke big in the music world, I wanted her to do it as a Landry. Selfish? Maybe but I’m so in love with this woman I want the whole world to know who she belongs to.

I stood up with my angel in my arms and set her gingerly back in the seat. I got down on my knee in front of her. She looked so fucking beautiful with the waning light of dusk glinting off her fiery hair, surrounded by the thousands of flashes from the lightening bugs in the air. I took her hand and kissed it tenderly. Taking a deep breath, I gathered my courage.

“From the very minute you came crashing into my life, I was hooked. I thought I had met an angel. Turns out I did. You have made my life so much more. I don’t want to spend another moment without you by my side, baby.” I pulled the box out of my pocket. Her eyes widened in shock, her delectable mouth dropping open in a perfect ‘o’. “I know we said we wanted to wait but I can’t wait any longer. I want you to be mine in every single way.” Her big green eyes shimmered with tears as her hand flew to her chest. “I want to spend forever with you, angel. Will you marry me?”

Before she answered, she threw herself in my arms and I felt the wetness of her tears on my shoulder. Oh no. My heart was thundering in my chest, so hard I thought it would burst right out. She was going to say no. I knew it. I closed my eyes and prepared for her rejection. When she pulled away, she cupped my face in her hands.

“You bet your amazing ass I will marry you!” She squealed, capturing my lips in a deep heated kiss. Oh thank God! She kissed me long and hard as if she couldn’t bear to let me go. Finally, she broke the kiss and laid her forehead against mine, both of us breathless. “I love you so much, Brock. I can’t think of anything I want more than to spend forever with you too.”

A round of loud cheering sounded behind us. I looked around in shock. I was so caught up in the moment with the love of my life, I didn’t notice her whole family stopped to witness our moment. She laughed her melodic laugh and flung herself against me again, causing us to tumble over in the grass. I joined in her laughter, wrapping my arms around her and drowning in her scent. She peppered my face with kisses between giggles and wiggles, my favorite kind.

Looking deep in her eyes, I smoothed her hair away from her face and kissed her. I kissed her with all the love I had in me, pouring every ounce of it into her. I couldn’t wait to get her alone and really show her the depth of my love for her. I was going to love every bare inch of her delicious body, leaving no part of her skin untouched. But that would have to wait. I could do that. Couldn’t I?

Our time in Louisiana had been one of the best times I’d ever had. My girl agreed to be my wife. Her family basically adopted me and insisted I bring my sisters on the next trip. Now that we were home, it was time to break the news to the gang. The triplets were home on a much needed break from the road and to spend some time in the studio to record another album. We decided to gather at their house. Sprawled across the back yard as we had done so many times before, Amber and I stood before our friends.

“So what are you guys doing around September?” I asked casually. Typical responses of shrugs and ’I don’t know’s were received. “Well how do you feel about attending a wedding?” I laughed at the speed of the heads that whipped around to stare openmouthed at us. I held up Amber’s hand showing off the big ass diamond sitting on her ring finger.

“OH MY GOD!!!” Miranda screamed. She rushed into Amber’s arms and almost tackled her. Her whiskey eyes were streaming with tears as she sobbed against her best friend. “My best friend is getting married!” she choked out.

“Aw don’t cry Mir,” Amber soothed her. Miranda giggled through her tears.

“I’m so happy for you, girl. We totally have to go wedding dress shopping!” Amber laughed and hugged Miranda tightly.

“We can all go dress shopping,” she said. “I’m wearing JuJu’s dress but since you’re all in the wedding party…”her voice trailed off with a tremulous smile. The girls looked at each other and squealed. The guys did our normal dude thing and drew me into fierce bro hugs, slapping my shoulders and back.

“It’s about fucking time you proposed, dick,” Aaron laughed. “Seriously, I’m happy for you man.”

“You’d better be because you’re all standing witness with me,” I chuckled.

“Hell yeah we are!” Ryder exclaimed. “You can’t get married without us. So you doing it here or in Louisiana?”

“She wanted to do it here but I convinced her to do it in Louisiana. Her family is fucking huge, man!” I laughed. “It would cost them a fortune to come out here and not all of them could make it. I figured I’d be the good fiancé and make the sacrifice for my bride to be.” The guys laughed and nodded their heads.

Standing here with our closest friends - no the were more than that, they were family - I thought just how pe
