Chapter one

J-
I always knew that lying was wrong and not the kind of thing that people should do. But I figured that I was an exception, especially now when my gym teacher was looking at me with an expression of pity and concern. I really did think no one was still in the girls locker room, but of course coach Danielle had to walk in on me just putting my shirt on. I had a giant black bruise on my lower back that was still in immense pain and coach Danielle didn't seem to want to let this one slide.

I let out a nervous chuckle before swinging my backpack over my shoulder. "Coach, it's nothing I swear." I smiled again, hoping she'd just shut up and leave me alone, I hated talking to people at all. It made me nervous.

"I don't know that I believe you, June."

I sighed inwardly and tried to think of a way to get out of this situation. I stared at the floor and gripped my backpack strap until my knuckles were white. "Well I-." I tried to bring up some tears to make this more convincing, but none came to my aid. Truth be told I haven't cried in over three years. "I w-was just trying to do a cartwheel, to seem cool, you know to the cheersquad, I just fell and landed on a rock." I fake sniffed and looked up at the coach. Great. Now she just looked really confused.

"Why didn't you say that fifteen minutes ago? I could be on my way home by now." She huffed and then rolled her eyes. "What is so hard about telling me the truth?"

Oh, sweetheart. If only you knew.

"Sorry coach, its just embarrassing is all." I said quietly. Hopefully she's done with her little interrogation.

"Alright you can leave." I fake smiled again and headed for the door. "Oh and June." I turned to her, now slightly annoyed.

"Yes?"

"I expect to see you at practice tomorrow." I mumbled a maybe and hurried out the door.

Last year I played on the girls volleyball team here. It was a sport I was fairly good at but I just couldn't enjoy it like I used to. Therefore, I quit, wich earned me a lot of hate from my 'friends' on the team.
I passed by a classroom and glanced inside.

Detention. I was unfamiliar with this particular word. I'd learned early on in life to not draw attention to myself. Just keep your head down and don't make enemies. Despite my efforts I still managed to piss off a couple people. Mostly just the team.

I only saw about four guys in the classroom. One of them being the most popular guy in school. Miles Donovan. He was also a sort of bad boy or in other words, a complete asshole and womanizer. Everyone knows this yet, they still fall at his feet. He's popular and hot. Black hair that always looks messy yet perfect, an athletic body from playing lacrosse, and those dark green eyes...that I was staring at. Oh shit! I quickly spun around and headed towards the exit.

Why did I have to make freaking eye contact? I am such a weirdo.

I ran down the road for a bit before remembering I was in no rush to get home so I slowed to a walk. I pulled out my airpods and phone. I had saved up all summer for theses earbuds. I was slightly obsessed with music, so I had to get something to allow me to listen to it anywhere. I could even cover my ears with my hair and noone could tell I was listening to music.
Remembering my part time job I smiled a little, knowing I could be out of the house for the evening. It was so suffocating in that place, sometimes it drove me crazy. All I had to do was sneak in and change my clothes without him noticing.

Finally reaching my driveway, I stared at the two story house. Mom was in love with this house, she said the white made her feel so sophisticated. It was nice here until she decided to leave us. She left me with nothing but a broken and evil man. I hate her for it.

I stepped through the door as quietly as possible, the steps squeaked as I climbed them and I winced when I heard a glass bottle breaking. "Why are you late?" A gruff and sleepy voice called out from the living room.
I felt my heart beat increase but I tried to keep my voice calm.

"Talking to coach."

"Whatever. Make me some lunch, I'm fucking starving." He growled and I heard him plop back into his old chair.

I breathed out a sigh of relief that he didn't come close to me. I hurried up the stairs and into my room. Although mom was gone I still had the same stuff and room. Two matrices stacked on top of eachother and a dresser and nightstand. I also had a large closet that I was sorta in love with, it didn't have much in it though.

I threw on a pair of black ripped skinny jeans and a oversized cream sweatshirt. Slipping on my black vans I hurried downstairs to start making lunch. I whipped up some grilled cheese and then grabbed a beer from the fridge. My hands were shaking as I walked towards his old chair, he was watching some weird TV show and smirking like a creep. I placed his food and drink on the table that was beside him and then quickly turned around.

"June. Come here for a second." He spoke up suddenly, causing me to jump in fright.

I slowly made my way back to him and waited for him to speak. I kept my gaze to the floor and my hands clasped together in front of me. "You having trouble at school?" He asked calmly.

Like he gave a shit.

"No." I said quickly. Maybe too quickly, because he looked a little pissed off.

"What did I say about lying to me June? You should know by now that I can always tell." I shivered as he stood up from his chair and glared at me. "Only I can ever touch you, understand?" He said coldly. I nodded again.

"Well then, go grab me another beer for later." He began turning but I kept my guard up, I'd been playing his little games for so long I knew his every move by now.

He only turned halfway before spinning around and punching me in the cheek. I fell to the ground with a groan and instinctively I wrapped my arms around my head and brung my knees to my chest. He kept kicking and punching me and after he was done and I could barely breathe because of the pain, he leaned down and whispered into my ear with gross alcohol breath that made me wince.

"See, only I can touch you June."
