Chapter 31

“Fuck me, Cap! This place is butt ass cold!” Lucy shivered in the Toronto evening chill. Tess looked at her in surprise. Lucy was a native New Yorker. She should be used to the cold. She could kind of understand though. She grew up surrounded by the Great Lakes but Canada was a different type of cold. Giggling, she pulled her wool coat around her tighter to shut out the breeze.

“Oh you’ll be warm enough in no time, Luce,” Sam said as she sauntered past the shivering winger. “If this is anything like it is in the States, there will be hot hockey hunks as far as the eye can see.” Lucy’s brown eyes glittered with excitement. Rubbing her hands, she marched into the lobby. Looking at Tess, Sam laughed. “Well that’s one way to shut her up!” Tess threw back her head and laughed. True enough. Lucy sure loved her hunks and was not shy about it. When everyone was finally checked in, she made haste to her room with Apollo hot on her heels.

Flinging her door open, she dropped her baggage and stripped as she made her way to the bathroom. She wanted a good, hot shower before she had to go back down for the team dinner. She faintly heard the sounds of the tv being switched on and figured Apollo was flopped out on the bed surfing the sports networks. When she got the water temperature to near scalding, she stepped under the spray and sighed loudly. She stood there for a bit letting the water work its magic on her tense muscles and soothe her mind.

She scrubbed herself clean. By the time she was dried off and the towel was wrapped around her, she felt much better. “I can do this,” she whispered to herself. “There’s nothing to worry about. He’s all yours now.” Exiting the bathroom in a billow of steam, she threw on her comfy clothes and settled next to her boyfriend on the bed. They still had a couple of hours before dinner and neither seemed to be in a hurry to do anything. Apollo kissed the top of her head and gave her the remote.

“My turn, babe,” he said as he went to take his shower. He was quiet now. She wondered how much longer it was going to take him to tell her what was on his mind. She could see something dark and worrisome swirling underneath the gorgeous blue depths. Of course, her paranoid mind tried its best to take over and make a righteous mess of her emotions. When he strode back out a few minutes later in nothing but a towel, she couldn’t help but drink in every delicious inch of his naked flesh. He belonged in a museum right next to Michaelangelo’s David. Every dip and curve of his muscles was straight up perfection, right down to the dark dusting of hair at his navel that led her to the promise land.

Tess lay back, stretching her legs out and admiring the masterpiece that was Apollo Dakiedes. She would never tire of watching him. Dropping the towel, she traced the swell of his perfect ass with her eyes, licking her lips. He had no idea he was giving her such an erotic show, all just by getting dressed. When he turned around, zipping up his pants he flashed her that sexy lopsided grin. “You were totally perving on me, weren’t you?” She giggled, biting her lower lip.

“Hell yeah I was. You are smoking hot and every last six foot four inch of you is mine.” Apollo laughed and threw himself down next to her, pulling her on top of him.

“I am all yours, babe. You can perv any time you want. You will get no complaints from me.” He placed a hand on the back of her neck and brought her mouth down to his. The kiss was tender and deep, much more intimate than the hungry ones they usually shared.

“Are you ok?” she asked softly. Sighing, he pulled her down on his chest so he could wrap her up in his arms.

“Yes and no,” he said, kissing her forehead. “I don’t know, babe.” He could feel her tense under him but she didn’t push away. Her breathing picked up as did her heart rate. She was anticipating the worst and he didn’t know how to stop that from happening.

“Um,” she stuttered a bit. “D-do you want to talk about it?” He hated she was getting like this. He had to spit it out before she flew into an abject panic.

“You know, the last time we were in this hotel it didn’t end well. I spent the worst year and a half of my life without you.” He tilted her chin up so he could look into her eyes. “I’ve never been so miserable, so unhappy as I was when you were gone. A part of me thinks this place will take us back there, that it will destroy what we’ve built. I would die if that happened, ángelos. I love you so much, Tess.” She released a breath she didn’t realize she was holding.

“Oh my God, Apollo I thought you were breaking up with me,” she barely got out, trying to hold back the sob that threatened to escape. He tightened his hold on her, kissing her eyes and her cheeks.

“No, never, baby girl. I love you way too much to ever let you go.”

“Is this why you’ve been so over-the-top sweet with me lately? Don’t get me wrong, I love it but you don’t have to do all those things to prove you love me.”

“Mm, you see right through me,” he chuckled. “Yeah in a way I guess I was trying to make sure you knew in any way I could think of that you are my one and only. I don’t want to be with anyone else because no one else comes close to comparing with you.” Sighing deeply, he kissed her lips, lingering just enough. “I guess I thought this place would break us apart. It damn near killed me before.” Tess raised up and placed her hands on each side of his face.

“I have had the same thoughts, Apollo, I won’t lie about that. But, I’m not going to relive the past either. And neither should you. I have worried myself crazy thinking you’re going to dump me any minute now when the next hot blond or redhead comes your way.” Apollo opened his mouth to speak but she placed a finger over his lips. “I know it’s crazy but I couldn’t help myself. After so many years of being passed over, it’s a habit I’m trying really hard to break where you’re concerned.”

“Oh babe I’m so sorry I ever made you feel like you were less than perfect for me. I was so fucking stupid and I will spend the rest of my life making it up to you.”

“This place has been bad for both of us, yes but it has also led us to good. It made us both grow up. I will still struggle, my love but you just have to keep reminding me ok? Remind me how much you love me. Remind me how much I mean to you. Remind me how much I belong to you and with you.” Apollo looked deep into her green eyes, finally seeing all the insecurity and hurt he put there over the years. But, overshadowing it all was the love she had for him. He could see it shining just under the surface, peaking around the corners and trying to break through.

“You are everything to me, Tess. Everything.” With those last words, he covered her lips with his and poured all his love for her into that kiss. He wanted her to feel how much he loved her to the very depths of her soul, so she would never doubt again how precious she was to him. He kissed her with everything he had, then he kissed her again. There was no time to make slow sweet love to her but there would be later tonight. He would make sure she never felt insecure about him again. He would speak to her with his body because his words were doing no justice.

Eíste o ílios kai to fengári, to skotádi kai to fos. Eísai i elpída mou kai to méllon mou. agápi mou. ta pánta mou,” he whispered in her ear. “You are the sun and the moon, the dark and the light. You are my hope and my future. My love. My everything.”
