Claudia’s heavenly scent warmed her daughter’s heart. Quinn stared in awe into the beautiful ice blue eyes that were like a mirror image of her own.

“Is this…?”

“Heaven?” Claudia asked with a smile.

Quinn nodded her head and looked down at her body. The blood and dirt was gone. There were no scratches, no bruises, her skin was flawless. There was no pain, none. She felt at peace, she felt happy. She didn’t miss Jayce but instead was content in knowing that when his time came, he would join her and they would live out their eternal days in happiness and warmth.

“No. This is not heaven” Claudia sighed.

How could this not be heaven? Quinn was dead…wasn’t she? Her mother was here, she was also dead…wasn’t she?

“Where am I?”

“This is a space between life and the afterlife” Claudia answered, “It’s called the Holding Realm and is where souls take themselves if there is something holding them back from transitioning to their afterlife”

“Why am I here?” Quinn asked tentatively, “wait. Why are you here?”

Claudia smiled at her daughter, stroking the backs of her fingers gently down Quinn’s soft cheek.

“I was here waiting for you, my beautiful baby girl. I knew one day you would come to join me and I’ve been waiting for that day…so I could give you a gift”

Quinn stared at her mother. She never thought she would get the chance to look upon her face, to feel her warm hands stroke her cheek. But here they were, reunited again.

“A gift?” She asked.

Claudia nodded and cupped Quinn’s face in her hands.

“Your business is not finished back on earth. You see, there is someone suffering in the depths of Hell, his body being used as a vessel for hate and violence. Only you can bring him back. Can you do that Aria?”

“I…I thought he was dead”

“No, my dear. Not dead, unfortunately for him”

Quinn’s eyes glistened with tears, the peace and tranquillity slowly leeching from her body. She looked down and gasped as blood began to soak through her clothes, her once flawless skin beginning to bruise and swell.
Claudia lent forward and rubbed a tear that slid down her child’s cheek

“Goodbye sweet girl. My gift to you is…life”

Claudia’s lips touched softly on Quinn’s and the air rushed back into her lungs.

Quinn’s eyes shot open as a familiar sound filled her chest.

Thump thump.

Thump thump.

Thump thump.
