Chapter 21

I walked inside feeling scared and nervous. Was Kenneth going to take me back or not?

Kenneth stood there waiting for me to start but I didn’t know what to say.

“Well.” He said, urging me to say something. “The clock’s ticking.”

“Kenneth... First off, I want to say sorry. What I did was wrong and horrible of me and I’m very deeply sorry about it. But I do want to tell you that Dimitri and I didn’t do anything. Nothing except sleep on the same bed. You see something happened and Dimitri wanted me to stay in his room. I was originally going to sleep on the couch but then Dimitri suddenly came and picked me up, bringing me to his bed. He told me to sleep there with him. I told him that it wasn’t right of me to do so because I was dating you. And that’s when he asked me whether I was having sex with him. I answered no. He then said it was okay for me to sleep in the same bed as him because we weren’t doing anything. And Kenneth, even though we didn’t do anything I know that it was still so wrong of me to sleep in the same bed as another man. If I was in your place, I’d be pissed at me too. And I’m so sorry about it. So very sorry, you have no idea. Please forgive me and take me back. I understand if you don’t want to take me back but please at least forgive me.” I said in the most sincerest way I possibly could. I hoped so much that he would not only forgive me but take me back as well. But I knew that was wishful thinking.

Kenneth stared at me for a minute before he decided to say something. “Isabella, you may not have done anything with him but sleeping in the same bed with another man is still cheating. You shared an intimate moment with him and that hurts a lot. I had trust in you. And I’m not sure if I want to throw my trust in you that fast again.” Kenneth said with a sad frown on his face.

“I’m so sorry Kenneth.” I whispered as a tear slid down my face. “I wasn’t thinking about how you would feel. I just thought that it was okay since I wasn’t doing anything with Dimitri. Dimitri said the same. But I’m stupid and didn’t think about you and your feelings. I’m really sorry Kenneth.”

“Isabella, you’re not stupid. You just made a mistake and I understand your intentions.” Kenneth said as he walked up to me and wiped my tear away.

“Kenneth, please take me back. I love you, and I’m so sorry!” I exclaimed.

“Isabella, I want to. But I’m not sure if that’s the right decision or not.” Kenneth said with a frown.

“Kenneth, I made a mistake and I’ve learned from it. Please just give me another chance.” I whispered, grabbing his hand in mine.

Kenneth sighed before he nodded his head. “Okay, fine.” He said causing a huge grin to break out on my face. He opened his arms and I hugged him. We stood there in each other’s embrace for a few minutes, just enjoying the way it felt to hold on to each other.

“Thank you.” I whispered, smiling up at him. He smiled down at me before leaning in to press a chaste kiss to my lips.

The rest of my day was going pretty well, since Kenneth and I were back together. Dimitri didn’t have much work for me to do. And I got the time to hang out with Thomas and Pam for a bit. Pam was such a sweetheart. She always volunteered to take care of Thomas for me since she usually had a lot of time on her hands. And Thomas was always happy to spend time with her. It was great.

Everything was great until Stark decided to approach me to set him up with Shauna. Pam was with me when he approached me about it. She let out a snort when she heard about Stark wanting to get with Shauna.

“Good luck with that!” Pam exclaimed in fake cheeriness.

“Um, I’m sorry but no one was talking to you.” Stark said glaring at her.

“I don’t need someone to talk to me for me to decide to talk. I do what I want.” Pam said with her arms crossed across her chest causing Stark to roll his eyes.

“Well I do what I want too!” He exclaimed causing Pam to laugh.

“Okay and your point is?” She asked with an eyebrow raised and an amused smile spread across her face.

Stark glared at her in annoyance. “My point is that no one cares about your opinion. So shut the hell up.”

“Excuse me, but everyone wants to hear my opinion. I’m freaking amazing!” Pam exclaimed.

“Yeah okay, whatever helps you sleep at night. Oh and you’re excused.” Stark replied with a smirk.

I smiled at their arguing. It was cute. They argued like a married couple. Instead of setting Stark up with Shauna, I should set him up with Pam. They’d make an adorable couple. I smiled at the thought.

I remember back home I used to play match-making with my friends all the time. I’ve set so many of my friends up. I remember it was always so much fun to see them fall for someone and then get with that person. It was great.

And now I was definitely going to do that with Pam and Stark. I slowly walked away from them as they continued on arguing. They didn’t even notice me leaving which made me laugh.

I walked by Dimitri’s office just as I heard him come out. I then turned around to face him. “Hi Dimitri.” I said smiling at him. He stared back at me suspiciously. He was most likely wondering why I was smiling at him for no reason. I was just really happy that Kenneth and I fixed things and about Stark and Pam making a cute couple and that I got to spend some time with Pam and Thomas. The day was great. Well as great as it could get here in Rovana.

“Hi.” He hesitantly said, still looking as if he wasn’t sure why I was so happy suddenly.

“How are you?” I asked to make some conversation. He looked really surprised now. He slowly walked up to me and placed his palm on my forehead.

“You’re not sick, so you must be on one of those human drugs.” He said scrutinizing me, as he lifted his palm away.

I burst out laughing at that. “No, I’m not. I’m just happy that Kenneth and I are back together. And today has just overall been a great day for me.”

“Oh. That’s great.” Dimitri said in a monotone voice before walking away from me. I followed him, increasing my pace so I was walking right beside him.

“So you didn’t tell me how you are.” I said causing him to suddenly stop and turn to look at me.

“Shouldn’t you be with your boyfriend right now?” He asked in a bitter voice. I was taken aback by his tone. He seemed really pissed suddenly.

“Um, he’s working right now.” I said quietly. “Why are you in such a bad mood all of a sudden?”

“I had to see your face, that’s why.” He said causing me to glare at him.

“I was being nice to you Dimitri. But you of course can’t take kindness because you’re an asshole.” I said, crossing my arms across my chest.

“Good! I like being an asshole.” He said before he started walking away.

“Why are you so annoying?” I asked as I followed him again.

“Why the hell won’t you leave me alone?” He asked and I smiled.

“Well if you’re going to be an asshole, then I’m going to piss you off by following you around.” I said causing him to scowl at me.

“Your life must be really boring if you’re willing to waste your time that way.” He said as he walked into his room.

“It is boring. Boring until Kenneth’s done his work.” I said causing Dimitri to roll his eyes. He then picked up a bunch of files and walked out his room and towards his office.

“So what are you doing?” I asked as we entered his office. I could tell he was really starting to get pissed off which made me smile in satisfaction. I was also surprised that he actually let me in. His office was his private room where he didn’t allow anyone enter except for when he wanted me to clean some stuff for him. Devon told me that even he hasn’t ever entered Dimitri’s office and they’re really good friends.

“Well?” I asked when he wouldn’t answer my question. He ignored me as he sat down on his chair and opened up his files. I looked around to find a chair but there were no more. Instead, I made some room on his desk and sat down on it facing him, my legs dangling from the side. Dimitri glanced up at me once I settled down before his gaze travelled down to the papers in front of him.

I sat there not knowing what to say when I noticed his sketchbook. It was sitting closed on top of his desk. I picked it up and was about to flip through the pages when Dimitri suddenly grabbed it from me. “Stop touching my stuff!” He growled out angrily causing me to raise my hands up in surrender.

“Sorry.” I said with amusement. “I just wanted to look at your drawings. Calm yourself.”

“Leave.” Dimitri ordered, pointing towards the door.

“Ok, ok, I’ll stop being annoying. Just let me stay. I’m bored.” I said causing him to glare at me before he returned his gaze to his papers.

After staring at the ground for about five minutes I decided to ask him some questions. “So, do you like drawing?” I asked.

“No.” He replied back which surprised me.

“Why not? You’re really good at it.” I asked curiously.

“It’s a waste of time and I usually don’t have a reason to. Like what am I going to accomplish by drawing something?” He said shrugging.

“Drawing is more of a fun thing to do. You don’t really have to have a purpose for it. I mean you could, but most people just draw for fun.” I said causing him to shrug again.

“I don’t do anything for fun.” He said as he took out his pen and wrote something down on the files.

“Maybe that’s why you’re always in a bad mood. And so angry and annoyed all the time. Because you never do anything for fun.” I said, realization finally dawning on me. “You know what you need? A girlfriend. And not someone like Shauna, who you just use.”

“I don’t want one.” He said glancing up at me, before he flipped a page.

“Why not?” I asked, crossing my right leg over my left as I waited for his response.

“I just don’t.” He said shrugging, causing me to sigh.

“When was the last time you’ve had one?” I asked and he suddenly looked embarrassed.

“I’ve never had one...” He hesitantly said causing me to gape at him.

“How old are you?” I asked and now he looked even more embarrassed.

“235 years old.” He replied causing my mouth to fall wide open.

“You’re 235 years old? And you’ve never had a girlfriend?” I was shocked. No wonder Devon laughed so hard at the thought of Dimitri actually loving someone.

“The world doesn’t revolve in having a girlfriend or boyfriend. I have better things to do then to waste my time on a girl.” He said glaring at me.

“Like what? Killing humans? Yeah okay. And you’re just saying that because you haven’t met ‘the one’ yet. But seriously, 235 years old and you still haven’t found ‘her’. The one person you’re meant to be with. Wow. That scares me actually. Because if you’ve been living for 235 years now and you still haven’t found ‘her’ then is there a chance that I will never find the one meant for me. Well actually, I have Kenneth. But if Kenneth and I don’t work out then what am I going to do?” I said, thinking hard about this.

“So much faith you have in your relationship with Kenneth. But then again, I don’t think Kenneth and you are meant to be. You’ve only known him for a couple weeks and you’re already saying you love him. Seems to me that Kenneth is your first boyfriend. And since he’s your first, you think you love him when you probably just like him.” Dimitri said, looking up at me.

“Oh and you’ve suddenly turned into cupid. You haven’t even ever been in a relationship so you don’t know these things.” I said rolling my eyes. I was in love with Kenneth and I wasn’t just thinking that because he was my first boyfriend.

“I’ve been living way longer than you and I’ve seen so many people fall in love and fall out of love, so I think I know what love is and what it isn’t.” He said. “And you are not in love with him. Not yet at least.”

“Whatever you want to think Dimitri. Because your opinion doesn’t change anything.” I argued back. “Especially since you know nothing about love.”

“If you really loved Kenneth, you wouldn’t have slept in the same bed as me. Any smart person would know that is cheating even if we didn’t do anything.” Dimitri said causing me to glare at him.

“You were the one who said it was okay!” I exclaimed in anger.

“Yeah but I could have said all sorts of things. I could have said that us kissing is okay. And you would have listened to me? I don’t think so. So even then you shouldn’t have listened to me. If you truly did love him, you would have considered his feelings. You wouldn’t have been so careless. Kenneth honestly doesn’t deserve you. He deserves better.” Dimitri said causing me to clench my hands into fists. I was so angry right now.

“And you don’t deserve anyone at all Dimitri! That’s why you’ve never had a girlfriend in all your 235 years alive! Because you’re not meant to be with anyone!” I spat out in anger as I hopped off his desk.

“Now you’re just angry because you know I’m right.” He said chuckling. “And besides, I don’t want love anyways, so I’m okay with not being meant for anyone.” I ignored him as I left his office, slamming his office door shut.
