CHAPTER 10: Rising Feelings – Part 1/2

I was in my room changing when a knock came at the door. “Come on in!” I shouted from across the room.

Damon opened the door and peeked his head around the door. “Are you decent?” He said as he scanned my body with his eyes.

I raised an eyebrow. “Really?” He asks if I am decent yet stares at my body like a hungry animal, not hiding the fact that he wanted to see me naked.

He chuckled. “Sorry, I couldn’t help myself. Are you ready?” He asked me while stepping fully into the room.

I slowly nodded. “Yea, I’m ready.” But, I lied, my stomach was churning, and my heart was racing from my frazzled nerves.

His brows furrowed somewhat as he stared at me, then he extended his hand out to me. “Ok, come on.” He said with a reassuring smile.

I smiled in return and grabbed his hand. We left my bedroom, hand in hand, which was a bit odd, but comforting in a way. We descended the stairs, my nerves now beginning to get the better of me, and I squeezed Damon’s hand tighter.

He looked down at our hands and then at me. “Don’t worry, everyone will love you, and if they don’t, I’ll put them in their place, baby.” He winked. I stilled for a beat, realizing he had just called me baby. I was taken aback by that, but I loved that he called me that.

I smiled and shook my head at his words. We exited through the front doors and began walking towards another building that was next to the house. It looked somewhat similar, just smaller and less extravagant.

We slowed down as we approached the building. “This is where the other members of our pack reside. The higher ranks live in the big house, with me.” He explained to me, and I thought it was interesting that they didn’t all live together and that only certain members were allowed to reside in the main house.

“How come?” I asked curiously.

He pursed his lips. “Well, if you have a high status within the pack, you reside within the big house with the Alpha. If you are of lower rank, you reside outside the main house. It’s just how things have always been.” He said, shrugging his shoulders.

I considered his words, and it made sense, reminding me of how Royalty lived. “Oh, ok.” I nodded in understanding.

We entered the building, and it appeared to be sectioned off into apartments, like a complex building, except for a few rooms just off the main entrance. There was a sitting room with chairs and shelves that held numerous books. There was also an entertainment room with TVs, game consoles, a pool table and arcade machines. I continued to glance around, taking everything in around me, when a gorgeous-looking red head ran up to us and lept onto Damon, wrapping her legs and arms around him, as she plunged her lips to his. I wrinkled my nose and glared at her, angry that she was touching him like that, then I remembered he wasn’t mine, and I wasn’t his. So, I awkwardly looked away from them, avoiding the encounter before me.

Damon let out a low growl and shoved the woman from him, causing her to stumble a bit as she landed on her feet. His gaze turned to mine, embarrassment and regret etched on his features. He almost looked guilty, and I wasn’t sure why, when there was nothing between us, right?

I looked away from him, feeling uncomfortable under his gaze now.

The woman scoffed, “What the Fuck, Damon? Why did you push me away?” She asked him, fury lacing her tone.

Damon straightened himself, puffing his chest out and glared down at the woman. “Mira, it will do you well to remember who I am and who you are. You will not do that again; do I make myself clear?” He said in a deep tone.

She put her hand on her hip. “You sure didn’t have a problem with it the last time I saw you. Especially when I was riding your dick.” She sneered.

Damon took a threatening step towards the woman before clasping a large hand around her neck and lifting her from the ground. “Watch your fucking mouth, or I will rip your tongue out.” His whole body was tense now and shaking with anger. The woman, he called Mira, was clawing at his hand and trying to free herself as she gasped for air, but he only tightened his grip.

This situation was getting out of hand, and I felt the need to do something before things escalated. Cautiously, I approached Damon, extending my hand and softly placing it onto his back. Damon froze under my touch and glanced over his shoulder at me, his eyes as black as the night sky “Damon, stop.” I said in a low and calm tone, hoping not to make things worse.

He closed his eyes and looked away from me before sucking in a deep breath and releasing the woman from his deathly grip. She collapsed to the ground, coughing and gasping for air. Damon stepped back from her and turned his attention to me again, a neutral yet pained expression on his face.

Mira stood to her feet now, nostrils flared, and her upper lip was twitching. “What the actual fuck Damon, you almost killed me. What has gotten into you?” She hollered at him. He slowly tore his gaze from mine to look at her. “You are lucky I didn’t. Next time, I won’t be so generous; take this as a lesson to respect your Alpha and remember your place here.” He said in a cold demeanour.

Her chest rose and fell heavily; then, her deadly stare turned to me. Her eyes roamed over my body as she studied me. Finally, our eyes locked, and she glared at me with disgust, then narrowed her eyes. “Is this bitch the reason why you have your panties in a knot? If you need help getting rid of her, I would be more than obliged to assist you.” She grinned mischievously as she took a taunting step towards me.

Needing more distance between us, I took a step back, and Damon side stepped in front of me, blocking her from me. “She is under my protection; you are not to touch her, understood?” He snarled, and she reluctantly nodded her head at him as she continued to glare at me coldly. “Now, you have five seconds to get away from here before I have your ass thrown into the dungeons.” His tone was dark and ominous, making it clear that he was going into beast mode.

She rolled her eyes and scoffed, “Whatever, Damon. Once you’ve had your fill with this pathetic human, you will come running back to me, just as you always do.” She confidently said as she walked away from us.

That was the most awkward encounter I’ve ever been stuck in the middle of; I felt uncomfortable and unwelcomed. Now, I just wanted to go back to my room and stay there, continuing to hide from everyone.

Damon turned around to face me; remorse etched on his features. He sighed heavily. “I am sorry about that. Are you ok?” He asked with concern.

I nodded my head. “Yes, I’m fine,” I said quietly. I was fine; I just felt out of place.

Damon’s head tilted to the side, and he brought a hand up to my face, caressing my cheek with his thumb. I closed my eyes and exhaled heavily as a feeling of comfort and calmness washed over me from his touch. Next, I opened my eyes and stared into his bright, blue orbs. He didn’t move or say a word, just continued to stare into my eyes, almost as if he was lost in them. Finally, his eyes moved down to my lips, staring at them intently while licking his lips, and I wondered for a second if he was going to kiss me. Damon then closed his eyes and shook his head.

He let go of my face, letting his hand drop to his side and backed away from me. “Would you like to continue, or would you like to go back home?” His voice sounded strained, and he seemed on edge now. I considered his question for a beat. I wanted to go back to the house, but I was curious to get to know Damon’s world, his kind, and see as much as possible.

“I would like to continue,” I answered him, and he smiled.

He gave me a curt nod. “Good, then let’s continue.” Damon placed his hand on the small of my back, causing the air to leave my lungs just from his touch and ushered me to a room on our left.
