Chapter 182

Dripping in jewels, every inch sparkling like a blood drenched diamond. I let her step into the abundance of fabric before adjusting the sweetheart neckline to perfectly show off her glorious curves. The ballgown snatches her waist like nobody’s business until she’s pure hourglass, before spilling out into an awe inspiring full skirt.

This dress is bigger than I ever thought she could wear with her tiny frame but she pulls it off majestically. In fact, she looks every inch the true princess Jayce has always called her.

Al's decision not to wear a veil was one we fought over but when she showed me the ruby set crown she’d found at the jewellery shop we loved at the bay I couldn’t complain.

Slotting it into the pinned back curls that fall over her petite little shoulders, her look just levels up. She already had her ring from Jayce and the bracelet from her Prince that never left her wrist - covering both the bases new and blue, but we’d done some digging and found a delicate chain with a red ruby pendant that belonged to her Mum and a pair of earrings I’d let her borrow from Granny’s jewellery box. Old and borrowed. She was ready.

Stepping back I let myself soak her in. My girl...

Fuck. She’s the most beautiful bride I’ve ever seen.

In the sea of black and white today, she will be the beckon of colour.

“Aleah...” I can’t find the words. Instead I pull her straight into my arms and force my lids to hold back tears. I don’t want her messing up that make up either, that smoky eye and red lip are perfection. “I love you. I love you so fucking much. You’re perfect girl. He’s the luckiest cocky prick on the planet.”

She bursts out laughing and I join her before we realise there’s still two very important people waiting to see her on the other side of the door.

“You ready?”

With a nod, I let her go. That’ll be the last time I hold her before she becomes his. My soul sister moving on to a whole new chapter in her book. I hope he knows, no matter how much I love him, I’d kill for that girl, so he better fucking appreciate her for the rest of his existence.

I open the doors, Tara and Cole standing to their feet anxiously waiting to see her. I take a breath before moving to the side and letting them take in their little girl, now all grown up.

The moment Coles eyes fall on Aleah he can’t stop the tears from running down his cheeks. Tara falls back into her chair just trying to hold it together but Cole doesn’t even try, just letting the emotions spill out of him.

“Poppet... Oh you look... You’re Mum, you look just like her on our wedding day... I thought she was the most beautiful woman in the world that day too but...”

Tara can’t stop nodding in agreement. I’ve always respected that about Tara, there’s never been any jealousy when it comes to Heather. She knows how much Cole and Aleah loved that amazing woman and she doesn’t try to pretend she never existed, she embraces the love they have for herself, knowing it may never be what they felt for Heather.

Cole pulls Aleah into his embrace, exactly the way he did when we were kids, his hand cupping the back of her head delicately. The way Dad’s love their daughters, it doesn’t change with age.

“I’m going to be the proudest man in the world today to walk you down that aisle.”

Aleah smiles up at him. “I actually need to talk to you about that.” She steps out of Coles hold and takes Tara’s hands, pulling her up from her seat even though the woman still seems to be at a loss for words at the goddess before her. “Tara, I need to ask you a favour.”

Tara nods, stopping the tears cascading down her cheeks before taking one of Aleah’s stray curls and tucking it back behind her ear. “You can ask me anything Aleah.”

Al smiles at her. “You’re the reason I’m here Tara. You made all this possible, you made me and Jayce possible. You have loved me even when I didn’t deserve to be loved by you, you take everyone’s crap and never ask for a thank you. You are the sweetest, kindest, most gentle soul I’ve ever known and I love you more than you can possibly ever imagine.”

There’s no way Tara can stop those tears now. Damn it Al, you got me going...

“You Tara, have been one of the most important people in my life and you’ve never asked me for anything. You have been the mother Jayce needed, the second love my Dad deserved and the most amazing Nanny to my daughter. I wish I could give you more but right now I just have to show you that no matter what, you’re my mother too Tara. I love you so much. So please, please will you walk me down the aisle with Dad... as my Mum?”

Oh God...

The poor woman hardly gets out the word yes before Cole has them both wrapped up in a hug.

Tara doesn’t get enough credit. When she realised the love between Jayce and Aleah was true, she did everything she could to bring them together. She didn’t marry the man she loved just so they could have this day. When she found out about May she didn’t hesitate to make her part of her family, even now she treats her like she birthed her into the world.

There are a lot of amazing people in this world, but Tara Thompson, yeah she’s one of the fucking best.

A loud knock hits the door, bringing an end to the magical moment before Sonya steps inside, slutty no boobs following closely behind with the clipboard I’m so familiar with.

Her eyes lock on Aleah and even she’s taken aback by how beautiful she looks. She smiles at her before turning to me.

“I’m sorry, could I possibly borrow Brianna for a moment? The photographer is on his way up and the groom has arrived Aleah, we’ll be starting the ceremony soon so if you’re going to make a run for it, this is your chance.”

The room bursts into laughter and I give Al a quick kiss before following Sonya out. My head still high on the emotions of this amazing day.

“I’ll see you down there beaut, you’re going to knock him dead.”

Following Sonya, she hurries me into another suite before slamming the door shut.

“We have a problem!” Oh fuck. “The chef is sick, the caterers have a back up but he’s off visiting family in fucking Long Island. I can get an emergency one in but it’s going to take hours and the menu is Italian, it’s a specific skill set. I need you to do that Brianna thing and fix it! I don’t know any Italian chefs in Westbrooke.”

Oh fucking hell. Okay, who the fuck do I know that can cook? Shit!

“Elizabeth! Her brother owns this Italian restaurant in the bay, he keeps saying he’s going to retire but he fucking won’t. He tried to make me his seventh wife last year at Heather’s birthday party and she slapped him into next week so I’m not sure what’s going on with them. Find her!”

I pull up a photo of me and Elizabeth from Christmas and show it to no tits, who immediately runs from the room to find her.

Sonya smirks at me. “Sure I can’t make you come back and work for me?”

“Not if my life depended on it. I’ve missed you though bitch.”

She chuckles before attempting her best effort at a hug, her body so stiff you’d swear she died last week but was to stubborn to leave the earth. “I missed you too Brianna. I’ve been following you though, you’re doing well, I’m proud of you.”

I honestly never thought I’d hear those words from Sonya. Taking her perfectly manicured hand in mine I can’t stop smiling.

“Wow, marriage has changed you girl. That man of yours got you all mushy there?”

She rips her hand from mine with fire in her eyes. Yeah, she still ain’t a bitch to mess with.

“Don’t push me Brianna. Peter wanted me to thank you again when I saw you but I did enough of that in my fucking wedding speech so just zip it.”

The door swings open and Christina practically hurls Elizabeth into the room. Elizabeth is usually a very calm woman but as she opens her mouth and that Italian accent slips out I know someone is going to pay, so I jump in quick.

Ten minutes, and me agreeing to go for drinks next weekend with Chad 2.0 later, he finally agreed to come to the hotel and cook. Sonya almost kissed me she was so happy but quickly pulled it back.

“Is Jayce okay? Is he with Milo and Josh?” Sonya nods as we walk down the stairs together before she scurries off to go get everything in place for my girl.

Getting to the bottom of the staircase I see they’ve set up a table of remembrance pictures for all the people that should be here today but aren’t, it’s beautiful but heart breaking. There’s a really cute one of Jayce and Chad at their first basketball camp as kids, their hands hardly big enough to hold the basketballs they both look so proud of. Then there’s the one of Cole, Al and Heather that Heather had next to her hospital bed all the times I visited. It’s still such a beautiful image, she’d be so proud of her daughter today.

The one of Harley and Josh at the moment they were made King’s of the winter formal almost breaks me, until I remember that he’s probably standing next to me right now laughing at the tears in my eyes. They should be here, they should all be here.

Then there’s the one on the end, the one of a woman who would’ve sat proudly in the front row today watching two kids she helped raise unify as one. Granny smiles back at me and I can’t stop myself smiling at her too. She’d have loved every second of this, she always enjoyed a wedding. Although I’m sure Aleah’s sparkling red dress would’ve had her raising an eyebrow or two.

I was so caught up I’d almost forgot there were people around me until somebody stood at my side and slipped his arm around my shoulders before planting a kiss on the side of my head.

“You look beautiful Brie.”

Turning to face him I take in the perfectly tailored tux I helped him pick out a few weeks ago. He might be my brother, but slam someone else’s head on his body and we have got ourselves a winner.

“So do you Romeo. You ready for this?”

His smile says it all, there’s never been any doubts for him that it was always Al. These two, true destiny.

“She’s mine Brie, she always has been, this is just making it official. Is she freaking out yet?”

He knows she is but he also knows the second she sees him, all those fears will slip away. That’s the thing with this pair, they are each others strength.

“She’s good Jayce, she’s perfect.”

He kisses me again quickly but I can see other people clamouring for his attention so he makes his way over to some friends of Tara’s at the bar. Josh catches my eye, Heather sitting on his lap and looking over at Milo like he’s the most amazing person in the world. She has made no secret that he is her favourite no matter what Josh tries to convince himself.

I smile and get ready to go sit with them when Josh’s eyes grow wide and they flash from me to somewhere behind me.

The mixture of peppermint and fresh coffee scent hits me, every hair on my body standing on end as I sense his warmth close in behind me, my heart making my blood pulse around my body at an unnecessarily quick pace until the rush travels straight to my head.

Oh fuck...

His breath hits my ear as the words leave his lips and I feel every nerve in my body ripple with an anxious pleasure I haven’t felt in so long.

“Hey stranger.”
