Jasper and Cleo

Drama / Romance

Seemingly average Jasper just kind of fits in, not so intelligent, not so handsome, nothing wrong, but nothing especially, well special. His schoolmates, particularly the girls, are about as interested in him as he is in school, but something has to change. Enter Cleo. New, exciting and interested in him...perhaps? As Jasper’s world begins to take a whole new shape in a way he could have never thought true he will learn what it means to live and love with his own most beautiful dream but before his fantasy can be realized must Jasper make that first most difficult move or will Cleo come to him?

Chapter 1

Jasper was not interested in the Biology lessons going on. He kept on staring out through the window. Then all of a sudden, a sombre red Acura ZDX pulled up by the school basketball court which was right beside the classroom block. A man in black suits and dark sunglasses came out and went round to the back door. He opened it and a very light-skinned teenage girl came out. She was in white button-down shirt un-tucked and a black flared skirt that was some five inches above the knee. The girl said something to the driver which was inaudible to Jasper. The driver nodded and walked back into the car. Then he drove off.

The girl then headed towards the school senior class block; that is towards Jasper’s class. Jasper was sure he had never seen the girl before in the school. She had a dark flowing hair that got to her shoulders and she was even wearing boots. Jasper began daydreaming and smiling to himself with the picture of the girl in his mind. Just then Mr. Ali the biology teacher in the class called his attention. ‘’ Mr. Davies! ‘’

Jasper bolted back into reality and sat up immediately; everybody’s gaze was now fixed on him. His heart speeded and he began forming goose bumps upon the air-conditioner in the class.

‘’ Yes Sir! ‘’ He then stood up from his chair. Mr. Ali stared at him for some time with those his frightening eyes. ‘’ What is a hermaphrodite? ‘’

Jasper’s mouth fell open, ‘’ her_? ‘’

‘’ _marphrodite ‘’ Mr. Ali completed.

‘’ _ma_ ? ‘’

‘’ Are you stupid?! ‘’ He barked and some people giggled. ‘’ Sorry Sir. ‘’ Jasper apologised and corrected himself. ‘’ Okay, hermaphrobite. ‘’

‘’ No, hermaphroeat. ‘’ Mr. Ali muttered to himself.

‘’ Hermaphrobite… hermaphrobite… hermaphrobite… ‘’ Jasper kept on mumbling ‘hermaphrobite’. He then turned to his best friend, Moses, for help. He looked at Moses from the corner of his eyes by his right. Moses was trying to explain something to him.

‘’ Okay, Jasper you don’t know it. ‘’

‘’ Wait teacher, I know it. ‘’ He stopped Mr. Ali and kept on giving Moses sidelong glances. Moses pointed at himself and then pointed at the girl sitting in front of him and then he made the sign ‘one’. He did it a second time and then Jasper turned back to the teacher. He smiled and cleared his throat. ‘’ Okay teacher, hermaphrobite… ‘’

‘’ First of all it’s hermaphrodite not ‘bite. ‘’ He corrected Jasper.

‘’ Ok, bite. It’s a person that can mate with both male and female persons. ‘’ The class burst out laughing but stopped abruptly; they knew Mr. Ali hated laughing in his class. Jasper was confused; why were they laughing at him as if he was wrong.

‘’ Just keep standing, ‘’ Mr. Ali told him. ‘’ You’ll show us what you mean, today. ‘’

At that moment, the girl Jasper had seen outside walked into the class. The whole class assumed some sort of moment of silence; Jasper’s eyes widened. That girl?

She was fresh-looking and had a sleek physique. Her eyes were like glass, they were brown and beautiful. Her lips glowed red though with a little lipstick, her slender hands were holding her backpack.

‘’ Good morning. ‘’ She greeted Mr. Ali.

Oh, what a nice voice. Jasper thought. Her voice alone was sweeter than the bell for dismissal.

‘’ Good morning. ‘’ Mr. Ali smiled with one side of the mouth. ‘’ What’s your name? ‘’ Inside Jasper’s heart he felt like pounding Mr. Ali. Imagine how he’s smiling. Doesn’t he know he’s fifty years old? Good things are even good to him.

‘’ Cleo Smith ‘’ the girl responded. Some two boys snickered but Mr. Ali ignored them. He nodded. ‘’ Miss Smith, you’re welcome to senior class two A. ‘’

‘’ Thanks. ‘’ Mr. Ali pointed at Jasper. ‘’ You can go and have a seat behind that hermaphrodite standing there. ‘’ The class giggled.

Jasper’s face went red with anger and mainly embarrassment. A new girl had just arrived and he was thinking of starting to form big boy. Mr. Ali just laid the foundation of his failure. The girl walked towards him and he bent his face. Mr. Ali made it worse by adding. ‘’ If you’re scared, you can tell me. I will change your position. ‘’

Mr. Ali then turned to Charles- the class prefect, he was in the front seat. He then asked him when the girl had sat down. ‘’ What is a hermaphrodite? ‘’

Charles bounced up. ‘’ A hermaphrodite is an animal or organism that possesses both male and female sex organs. ‘’

‘’ Thank you, sit down. ‘ He turned back to Jasper still standing. ‘’ Did you hear that? Now give me an example of a hermaphrodite you know. ‘’

Jasper bent and muttered, ‘’ your father. ‘’ Cleo- the new girl snorted behind him. No one had heard that but her, he turned backwards and their eyes met. He turned forward immediately.

Then the bell for recreation went.
