“I’m going to annihilate you!” Phoenix shouted, flinging snow up into the air so it fell like tiny pearls around him.

It was snowing for the first time in years. Nobody had expected it, yesterday morning, the whole country had woken up to inches of thick, white snow. It was Phoenix and Storm’s first snow day, schools had been cancelled, most of the shops had closed and the roads were empty.

Yesterday, I’d been so excited, that I’d run outside without a jacket despite Chase’s warnings and caught a cold. Hence why instead of playing outside today, I was leaning against the doorway with a blanket wrapped around me sipping on a hot chocolate with tiny marshmallows.

“I’m going to get you!” Phoenix yelled leaping at Chase.

Chase caught him mid-air and spun him round a few times, I smiled to myself as Phoenix screamed and laughed, since Chase moved in, I was hearing that laugh more and more. Storm was sitting in a pile of snow, padded so thick with scarves and wool that I doubt she could even feel the cold.

Storm giggled shoving a gloved, snow covered hand into her mouth. Chase saw me in the doorway and put Phoenix down, shaking off what easily could have been half a snowman worth of snow, he ran up to me.

“Didn’t think you’d be up already.” He said pulling his hood off.

“I wasn’t going to miss this.” I said looking out into the garden, to Phoenix making snow angels and Storm turning her glove into an ice-lolly.

“Yeah, the garden looks pretty with all the snow.” Chase said.

I smiled again, looking at my boyfriend’s nearly blue lips and frost covered hair, even on the verge of hypothermia he was insanely cute.

“Wasn’t talking about the snow Chase, it’s nice seeing Phoenix and Storm with you, having fun, laughing.” I paused, considering, “Maybe if I put on a proper jacket and a scarf, I could…”

Chase rolled his eyes.

“I warned you yesterday Lyric, now you have to face the consequences.” He grinned.

Lyric. He loved to call me that nowadays. Mostly because he was the only one I let call me that, like it was his own secret code name.

“Fine, maybe I’ll go back to bed.” I sighed.

Resting an arm against the doorway, Chase leant towards me and pressed his lips to mine, they were practically made of ice but somehow warmed me more than the blanket and hot chocolate combined.

“Was that an invitation?” Chase murmured.

I laughed.

“Don’t know if my immune system can handle that.” I replied pressing his nose with the tip of my index finger.

He frowned.

“Get Phoenix and Storm inside, I’ll make breakfast.” I said.

It was the 18th of January, school was supposed to start yesterday but because of the snow it didn’t, now it was Friday, so we still had a few more days of holiday bliss before the Spring term started.

Wild, my best friend, and Ryder, Chase’s best friend, were both attending Ravenwood now after they found out Wild was pregnant, it was decided that Ravenwood was the safer choice for her pregnancy. Now that the school’s east wing had been rebuilt, Blackthorn had re-opened and Chase, being the crazy boy he was, had made up his mind to join me.

I had tried to convince him otherwise, but anyways it would be hard, Chase had a job now, working at the Ravenwood Sports Club, he taught younger kids classes, worked poolside as a lifeguard and every now and then picked up a late shift at the bar. But even with both he and me working, it wouldn’t be enough for him to go to Ravenwood, he’d need at least a 90% scholarship instead of the 75 he had previously.

I was nervous about him attending Blackthorn. He hadn’t grown up with those kids, they didn’t take well to outsiders let alone ‘posh’ kids from Ravenwood. But I had to trust Chase, besides I would protect him once we were there.

“Thinking about something Blaze?” Chase said carrying Storm in as Phoenix rode on his shoulders.

“Pancakes or Crepes?”

Chase looked at me sceptically.

“What’s the difference?”

“I’m going to pretend you didn’t say that.”

Phoenix giggled and jumped about on Chase’s shoulders spraying snow everywhere.

“Let it go! Let it go!” Storm screamed, before sneezing four times.

Chase looked at me knowingly.

“Let’s go take a shower.” Chase smiled.

I internally cringed knowing that whenever Chase gave the kids showers, the bathroom floor was soaked and there were soap suds in every single corner of the room, even on the ceiling.

By the time they had drowned the bathroom floor and walls, I had finished making breakfast. Phoenix marched downstairs wearing the Mickey Mouse bathrobe Chase has bought him after getting his first pay check. And Storm was bundled in one of Chase’s t-shirts, it was way too big for her, but she loved wearing them and looked impossible adorable.

“Phoenix go set the table.” I said wiping the kitchen counter down.

“Okay Daddy. Chasey Dad, can you get the plates?” He said reaching for the cutlery drawer.

Chasey Dad, it was what Phoenix had started calling Chase, Storm was still saying Chasey, but had added the Dad part a couple of times. At first I hadn’t been so sure about it, Chase could walk out at any point, I didn’t want him being a huge part of their lives if it was only temporary. But now, I knew he wouldn’t do that.

“Careful Buddy.” Chase said handing the plates to Phoenix who sprinted to the dining room.

After Phoenix was sitting restlessly at the table and Storm was settled into her high chair, Chase came back to the kitchen.

“What’s up Baby?” He said softly from behind.

He put his arms around my waist and buried his face in my neck.

“You know Blackthorn is going to suck right?”

He rolled his eyes.

“Yes I know.”

“No Chase you don’t.”

“Blaze, let’s not do this now.” He mumbled kissing me.

I sighed but didn’t say anything.

“Now come on, our children are going to start a revolution if we don’t feed them.” He smiled reaching for the Nutella jar.

I loved it when he smiled, his big hazel eyes lit up and glittered and my heart fluttered no matter how many times I saw it.

“Our children?” I said with a smile.

“That’s right, they’re mine now was well.” He said, he kissed me again, longer, slower.

One hand gripped my waist and the other cupped the back of my head. I murmured something against his lips and kissed him back.

“And you’re mine too.” He murmured gently.
