9 hours later, Keely, Roger, Jason and Rick are in the waiting room with all the band members waiting for Wendy to give birth. It’s been a long day and Angel has been unusually fussy. Roger is walking the halls bouncing the 6 and a half month old in his arms. “OK, Angel. Come on, Princess. I know you want to go home, but your cousin is being stubborn so I need you to be the good girl that you are and just be a little patient.” he told her, kissing her head.
“Roger, are you really trying to reason with a 6 month old?” Nathan asked looking up at his friend.
“I figured it was worth a shot. I’ve tried everything else but nothing is working.” he looked down at him as Keely approached him.
“Let me see something for a minute.” she looked up at him, reaching up to look inside the baby’s mouth.
“What are you looking for?” he asked as he held the baby down to his wife
“She’s teething. That’s why she’s being so fussy.” she told him, going towards her cooler bag.
“What do you mean she’s teething? Didn’t she already start that?” he asked walking towards her.
“No Roger, she hasn’t yet. Babies usually start earlier, but I guess this little one is special.” she took out a cold teething ring.
“How do you know that’s what it is?” he asked holding on to the ring.
“Do you see this?” she asked opening the baby’s mouth and showing him the white cap on her bottom gum in the front of her mouth.
“Oh shit, that’s her first tooth.” he smiled looking at his daughter.
“Yep. Be prepared for some sleepless nights. Teething is a bitch.” she looked up at him.
“She must be in so much pain. My poor Angel.” Roger kissed her head.
“I have medicine for her when it gets bad, but I don’t want her taking it all the time. The teething rings I bought should be enough most of the time.” she looked up at him, handing the baby the teething ring.
“How do you happen to have a teething ring in your bag of tricks?” he looked down at her.
“Because I’m the mommy. We’re like Boy Scouts. Always prepared.” she laughed sitting next to the carriage. The teething ring seemed to calm Angel down.
“You’re a good mommy, Keel.” Jason smiled over at her.
“Well, I had enough practice with you boys.” she laughed looking over at him.
“Your mama is something else.” Roger smiled at the calmed child, walking her around the waiting room.
“Don’t you forget it either, Greyson.” she laughed, putting her head back to close her eyes.
As Roger walked around the waiting room, Everyone tried to occupy their time. Reading magazines and talking to one another. Approximately an hour later, Oliver came rushing into the waiting room.
“Well?” Roger asked as everyone jumped up from their seats.
“She… she did great. I… I have a son and he’s incredible.” he announced as tears streamed down his face.
“That’s great, Oli.” Keely rushed towards him, throwing her arm around him.
“She’s OK?” Roger asked as Angel slept in the carriage.
“Yeah, she’s… she’s perfect. They brought her to the recovery room already. Marty is in the nursery getting cleaned up. I can’t wait for you guys to meet him.” he smiled at them as he held Keely.
“You… you should call your parents. I’ll call mine and let them know that dad’s little namesake is here. He’s so excited to have another Martin in the family.” she laughed looking up at him.
“Yeah, I… I should do that. They’re gonna be so excited.” he smiled rushing towards the phones.
“I’ll be right back. Don’t go anywhere.” Keely smiled leaning up to kiss Roger before going over to where Oliver was to call her parents.
“Can you believe we have another baby around here?” Jason asked looking over at Roger.
“As if things weren’t exciting enough with all the girls in our lives, now we have a little boy.” Roger laughed looking over at his sleeping daughter.
“’And you, my friend, have a teething infant on your hands.” Rick laughed looking up at him.
“Pretty cool, huh?” Roger smiled at him with his arms across his chest.
“OK, let’s go see my boy.” Oliver smiled at them as her returned to the men.
“Let’s wait for Keel.” Roger looked over at him.
“Yeah, that’s a good idea. She’ll kill us if we leave without her.” Oliver smiled at him.
“When do we get to see Wendy?” Jason asked looking at him.
“Soon. Probably about an hour or so. She’s really tired.” he looked at him.
“Well, she’s been in labor for almost 13 hours. That’s enough to wear anyone out.” Rick smiled over at him.
“OK, time to see my nephew.” Keely announced, bouncing back over to the boys.
“Sure, Keel. Let’s go.” Oliver laughed as she rushed to her daughters carriage so they could all go to the nursery to see Little Martin Roger O’Reilly.
“That has got to be your kid.” Nathan smiled looking in the window at all the babies.
“That’s him.” Oliver smiled as the nurse held the boy up to so everyone could see him. “I’m gonna go in and hold him.” Oliver smiled at them before going into the nursery to hold his son.
“Don’t they look great?” Keely smiled watching her cousin and her nephew.
“They look amazing, Keel.” Roger smiled holding Keely in his arms.
“I have to see Wend.” she looked up at him.
“Maybe you should wait until tomorrow. We’ve been here a long time and you really should rest.” he looked down at her.
“Roger, I’m fine. I’ve been resting all day, so I can see my best friend.”
“He’s right, Keel. You really should get your rest. With Angel teething, you’re not gonna get much sleep for a while.” Nathan agreed with Roger as Keely looked up at the both of them.
“I’m a grown woman. If I need my rest, I’ll get some rest. I’m fine. I’m not gonna be treated like a child by either one of you.” she argued looking up at them.
“But you’re still healing, Keel. You need to take care of yourself.” Roger looked down at her.
“What’s going on out here?” Oliver asked looking over at them.
“Your friends seem to think that I’m one of the children who need to be looked after. I want to see Wendy, but they think I need my rest. Since Angel is teething now.” she looked up at him.
“Tell her, Oli. It’s been a long day, she needs her rest.” Roger looked over at him.
“Oh no. Don’t drag me into this. Keel knows what she can handle. I learned a long time ago not to fight her.” Oliver told them, leaning against the wall.
“There. Now if you’ll excuse me. I’m gonna go in and see my best friend. Seeings that she’s probably awake since you clowns have been yelling at a defenseless woman out here.” she told them, turning onto the balls of her feet and going towards where Wendy was.
“Defenseless, my ass. She just handed us our asses, didn’t she?” Nathan looked over at Roger.
“That’s my wife. We’re just mere mortals in her world.” Roger laughed before getting his daughters carriage and following his wife to Wendy’s room. When they opened the door, Keely was sitting on the bed next to Wendy laughing.
“How could she go from bitch slapping you guys in the hallway to that in 30 seconds flat?” Rick asked looking over at Roger.
“She’s the mama, that’s how. The days of me being able to make her swoon with my charm are over.” Roger laughed looking over at him as they all joined the women in the hospital room.
“Can you believe how things have changed?” Rick asked looking up at Jason.
“We got really lucky when Keely came into our lives. She made us a family. Now we have 2 sisters, a whole lotta brothers and 2 new lives to celebrate.” Jason smiled as he watched Oliver bring his son into the room.
“And we thought things were boring.” Rick laughed walking away from him to go towards Oliver and Little Marty. As Rick walked away, Roger approached Jason.
“Are you OK?” he asked as they watched Oliver hand Marty over to Wendy.
“Yeah, just… things have changed so much in the last couple of years. It’s hard to believe that we’re the same people.” he looked over at him.
“We’re not. They changed all of us. I’m a husband and father, you’re finally living your own life out in the open, we have women and babies and record deals and a real family. A big, huge, crazy family.” Roger laughed putting his arm around Jason’s shoulder.
“I owe my life to you and that woman over there. I’d be dead if it wasn’t for her, and you brought her into my life. I’ll always be grateful to you for that.” he smiled at him.
“That’s why she’s the only woman you’ll ever truly love.” Roger smiled at him.
“They both are. They accept me for who I am no matter what. They fight for me when I’m too tired to fight for myself.” he smiled as Wendy and Keely smiled over at him.
“Why don’t you go over there to the girls. I’m gonna get Angel. I want her to meet her cousin.” Roger smiled going to his daughter, who was in her carriage waking up.
