Roger and Keely are in the doctor’s office waiting for their sonogram. They were waiting to see their baby and, hopefully, find out the sex. Roger’s looking through a magazine while Keely is looking through a song book full of songs written by both Roger and Oliver. The nurse calls out their name and they enter the examining room.
“How have you been feeling, Keely?” The doctor asked as Keely sat on the table.
“I’m great. Getting fat.” she laughed, laying back.
“You’re carrying nicely. Are you ready to see the baby?” he smiled at her.
“That’s why we’re here.” Keely laughed as Roger sat next to her quietly, obviously nervous. “Are you OK, Baby?” she asked looking over at him.
“Yeah, I’m… I’m fine. I’m just nervous.” he took her hand and brought it to his lips to kiss it.
“This is gonna be cold, OK?” the doctor advised before squirting the gel onto Keely’s small 4 months pregnant belly.
“Not so bad.” Keely giggled as the doctor put the receptor on her belly. Roger was in awe. He was looking at his child. Moving around in his wife’s belly. Keely squeezed his hand as they both held back tears.
“I’m hearing a very strong heartbeat. Do you want to know what you’re having?” the doctor smiled trying to get their attention.
“Um… yeah. We… we do.” Keely stammered wiping the tears that had fallen from her blue eyes.
“It looks like you are having a little girl.” The doctor smiled at them.
“You knew it.” Keely laughed and cried at the same time as she looked over at Roger, who was stunned. He couldn’t believe that his wife was carrying his daughter.
“I… I...” Was all he could manage before breaking down into tears of joy.
“Are you OK, Baby?” Keely asked lifting her hand to caress Roger’s face.
“I’m perfect, Keel. I just… I can’t believe that that’s our daughter.” he stammered as the tears rolled down his face.
“I’m gonna print out pictures of your little angel.” The doctor smiled at them.
“Um… is she OK? I mean, does she look healthy?” Keely asked looking over at the doctor.
“She looks perfect, Keely. Don’t worry. Everything is perfect. I’ll give you two some time alone.” The doctor smiled handing the print out to Keely.
“Thank you, doctor.” Keely smiled at him as she and Roger stared at the photos.
“That’s our little girl.” Roger smiled at Keely.
“Yes, it is. Now we have to think of a name for this little one.” Keely smiled at him.
“How about Angel? Angel Lynn Greyson?” he suggested wiping his wet face.
“Angel? I… I like that.” Keely smiled at him.
“I love you, Keel. Thank you.” he kissed her over and over.
“You helped.” she laughed caressing his face.
“My part was fun.” he smiled down at her.
“So was mine, if I remember correctly.” she giggled as they deepened their kiss. Just then, the doctor entered the room.
“Isn’t that how you two got into this predicament in the first place?” he joked as he looked over at the young couple.
“I can’t get any more pregnant than I already am, doc.” Keely laughed looking up at him.
“That is very true. See you next month.” the doctor laughed and Roger and Keely left the doctor’s office.
“Are we messing with everyone or are we having a party to announce our little Angel?” Keely asked as she and Roger walked hand in hand.
“I… I don’t have it in me to mess with everyone. I’m too excited. I’m gonna start calling as soon as we get home.” he told her, barely able to contain his excitement.
“OK, Baby. I can’t wait.” she laughed looking up at him.
“I have to get pink and purple paint and ballerina wall paper for her room. And I wanna get those big wooden letters so I can spell out her name on the wall above her crib.” Roger rambled as they walked home.
“You just painted her room. How much time are you gonna spend decorating that room?” she asked looking up at him.
“I don’t want my daughter to be stuck with a green bedroom. She should have a pink bedroom with girly stuff. I want to make it hers.” he stopped in the middle of the sidewalk.
“It is hers, Roger.” she looked up at him.
“When I painted it before, it… it was just because I wanted to do something with it. I felt like I wasn’t preparing for our child and I needed to do something, but Keel now I need to decorate Angel’s room. The room that’s hers. Does that make any sense?” he asked looking down into her blue eyes.
“When you decorated it before it was for our child, now we know who she is. She has an identity now. A name. You want to paint her room for her, not for our child, but for Angel Lynn Greyson.” she smiled.
“Exactly. So, can we? You can pick out the colors you like, and me and the guys can do all the work.” he smiled down at her.
“OK, Baby. Let’s go.” she laughed as they went to the hardware store.
An hour later, they were on their way home. Paint, wallpaper borders and other things Roger needed to decorate his daughter’s room in tow. As they entered the building, Keely and Roger began climbing the stairs. They laughed as they talked about decorating their daughter’s room. They got to their apartment and opened the door. There were lights flashing on the answering machine.
“Looks like we’re pretty popular today.” Roger laughed setting the paint can and the shopping bags just inside the doorway of the baby’s room.
“I wonder why.” Keely laughed pressing play on the answering machine.
“Rog, Keel call us.” The message was short and straight to the point. It was Jason’s voice.
“Keely, where are you guys? Call me. Maybe we can do something later.” The next voice was Wendy’s.
“Like we’re not supposed to know why they’re calling.” Keely laughed pressing stop.
“Should we call them?” Roger asked looking down at his wife.
“I think it’s a good idea. Their heads are probably about to explode.” Keely laughed reaching for the phone. She called Wendy and Oliver’s before calling Jason and Rick. She didn’t tell them anything, just that they were summoned to the apartment. They told her that they would be there as soon as they could. Wendy and Jason have been very possessive of Keely and the baby lately. Both are Godparents to the Greyson baby and are taking their jobs very seriously. Keely called her parents and delivered the good news and then Roger called the Greyson’s and told them as well.
Roger made some coffee while Keely set up a snack tray. They prepared to have their 4 best friends storm the apartment to find out the sex of their newest member. Everyone arrived and sat patiently in the living room. Keely and Roger stood in front of them, excited to share their news.
“Well?” Wendy was not so patient.
“You’re getting your wish, Wend.” Keely called out excitedly.
“You’re kidding. Roger with a daughter? There is a god.” Wendy jumped up to hug Keely.
“And we have a name.” Roger smiled at them.
“What’s my little neice’s name?” Jason asked curiously.
“We decided to name her, Angel Lynn Greyson. It was Roger’s idea.” Keely smiled at them.
“That’s perfect.” Rick smiled up at them.
“She is our Angel.” Roger smiled down at Keely.
“Did you know that Angel means messenger?” Jason smiled at the.
“Messenger, huh? I like that. I hope that means that she’s gonna have a lot to say.” Roger smiled.
“She is the message, Roger. She represents our love. She’s proof that what we have is real. That everything we went through meant something. This means something.” Keely told him quietly.
They spent the night celebrating Angel. Roger recruited Jason, Rick and Oliver to paint the bedroom with him. Wendy decided to start decorating the letters spelling out her niece/ Goddaughter’s name. It surprised Roger, but Wendy was very artistic. She painted butterflies, ballet slippers and tiaras on the letters. Jason and Rick went out to get pizza and drinks and Roger and Oliver are alone, painting the room.
“So, a daughter, huh?” Oliver asked looking over at Roger as he painted the baseboards.
“Yeah, a daughter. Pretty wild, huh?” he smiled spreading the pink paint on the wall.
“Are you scared?” Oliver asked looking up.
“A little, but I’m more excited than scared. What is this all about Oli? You’ve been acting weird.” he asked as Oliver got up from the floor. He quietly closed the door as Keely and Wendy painted the letters at the dining room table. They weren’t paying attention to the boys in the other room. They had the stereo on in the living room, so they were listening to music. “Come on, Oli. What’s up.” he asked looking over at him.
“We just found out that Wendy’s pregnant. I’m… I’m gonna be a dad.” he announced as the guys looked at him.
“That’s great, right?” Roger asked looking over at him.
“Yeah, it’s really great. She scared because of the record deal. She didn’t know how we were gonna have a kid with me getting a record deal, but then we saw how confident you and Keel were with 2 record deals and a kid on the way, why can’t we?” he smiled at him.
“Does Keel know yet?” Roger asked.
“Not yet. I don’t know what she’s waiting for. I’m dying for it to be out.” he smiled at him.
“I can’t believe you told him, Oli.” Wendy said standing in the doorway, overhearing him talking to the boys.
“He’s our family, Wend. I’m happy. We’re gonna have a baby.” he smiled as he walked over to her.
“I wanted to wait. What if something happens and I lost it?” she asked as tears flooded her eyes.
“Like before?” Keely asked as Oliver looked at them confused.
“What… what are you talking about?” he asked them.
“Thanks a lot, Keel.” she looked over at her.
“You didn’t tell him?” Keely asked looking at Wendy as Oliver stood over her.
“Obviously. Um Oli… I was pregnant senior year and after homecoming, I had a miscarriage. I got home after the dance and started cramping. Um… I had only found out the day before that and I was trying to figure out a way to tell you. I went to the doctor the next day and the doctor said that I lost it, but that I would be OK. No one knew. I told Keel only because she had to wake me up from a nightmare one night when I slept over and I told her. I begged her not to tell you. I didn’t want to upset you.” she cried as Keely comforted her.
“You should have told me, Wend.” he walked over to her.
“At first I didn’t know how. We were only 17. Then I… I couldn’t bring myself to say the words out loud. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you before. But then when I found out I was pregnant a few weeks ago, I was afraid it was gonna happen again. I wanted to wait until I was sure it wouldn’t before I told anyone else.” she cried looking up at him.
“I’m sorry I wasn’t there for you last time, but I’m here now and nothing is gonna happen this time. You’re not alone.” he whispered holding her in his arms.
“Roger, I… I know you went through the same thing a couple of years ago and… I’m sorry if I brought back any bad memories.” Wendy looked over at him.
“Don’t worry, Wend. Congratulations. This is a good thing.” he smiled walking over to her.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” Keely asked looking over at her.
“I’m sorry, Keel. There’s been a lot going on lately.” she looked over at her.
“I’m really happy for you guys. Your baby isn’t gonna be much younger than my baby.” she smiled, hugging them.
“Things are about to get much more interesting around here.” Roger smiled as they celebrated the new lives about to enter their family.
Rick and Jason returned and were told the great news. With Roger and Oliver, they finished painting the baby’s room as Keely and Wendy finished the letters. They sat in the living room and ate as they waited for everything to dry and to celebrate the youngest members of their family.
