Mike parked the car at the beginning of the driveway and turned to Elizabeth.

“ Thanks for dinner, Mike.” Elizabeth said flashing him a smile as she went to get out of the car.

“Wait Beth!” Mike started. Mike ran his fingers nervously through his curly hair.

“Yeah, Mike?” Elizabeth asked. She glanced at him sharply and waited. Beautiful and independent, people often wondered how the short soft-spoken Portuguese kid ever got her to notice him.

“Elizabeth, will you marry me?” Mike held out a small box, where a ring glistened in the street lights.

“No,” Elizabeth said flatly. Mike looked down.

“I’m not ready yet, Mike!” her tone picked up a pleading note. “I like you a lot but I’m just not ready.” Mike smiled and looked back up at her.

“Fine Beth, but I would like you to try on the ring.” Elizabeth shook her head.

“No, Mike.” Mike rolled his eyes and pressed again.

“Aw come on, just see if it fits” Elizabeth gave a noncommittal grunt as Mike slipped the ring onto her finger. He grinned.

“ There love, now we are engaged!” He kissed her lightly on the lips and jumped out of the car. He went around to open her door, and Elizabeth stepped out in a daze. Blinking as he kissed her again. Before Elizabeth could react, Mike was back in the car and driving away.

"That was not nice." She grumbled.
