Chapter 27

Time flies when you’re having fun and the week slipped away quickly. Soon enough it was the last night. I felt so much pain in my heart having to leave him behind. I was torn. Did I go back to my husband of ten years? That’s a long time! The man who spoiled me rotten with materialistic things; money can buy happiness. That man who loved me more than I could possibly imagine.

Or… did I stay with Corey? My feelings for him far exceeded my husband and I was so tempted to just ditch my real world and keep my fictional one. Maybe what Tania said was true and it was just because it was strange, but it was the best damn strange.

I didn’t see much of Tania, but that was my choice. She always brought up the fact that this wasn’t real. I knew she was trying to keep my feet on the ground, but I was happier being stuck in the cloud.

“What are you guys doin’ tonight?”

I shrugged. “I’m not sure.” Actually, I already knew what was planned, but I didn’t want to discuss it with her. She annoyed me.

“I’m sure it’s gonna be hot. Brandon an’ I are gonna rock the night away in his place since it’s the last night. He has to catch a flight in the mornin’ as do we, only he’s goin’ on a different one.”

I frowned at her words. Last night just reminded me over and over that I would never see Corey again and I was trying like hell to come to grips with that. “Must ya keep remindin’ me?”

She looked over oddly confused. “What do ya mean?”

“I know I have to leave. I can’t stay here with him. You don’t have to keep rubbin’ it in.”

She blinked as I attacked her. “Hey, what’s this all about? Why are ya bitin’ my head off? Ya act like-” She gasped, cutting into her own sentence. “Elyse… what’s goin’ on?”

I sighed. I had to tell someone what happened and the only person I could tell was her! I blurted it all out. “I tried to think of this as just fun, just a fantasy, but truth of the matter is, I don’t wanna leave. I don’t ever wanna leave him.”

She winced, shaking her head. “Ya didn’t go an’ fall in love with this guy, did ya? Ya knew from day one this was how it needed to be. We talked about this. Hell, ya said ya had this under control an’ you were in control.”

“I know. It’s one of the reasons why we’re sleepin’ at his house tonight.”

“That’s good because ya can sneak out an’ leave nothin’ behind. I’ll have everythin’ in the lobby, ready for us to leave.”

“Ya act like I don’t know this already.”

“…an’ you act like a love-starved teenager about to leave her high school sweetheart behind. Hey, don’t take it out on me because you went an’ fell in love with this guy. I warned ya this was gonna happen if ya continued to live in this fantasy all week.”

“I’m not in love.” I lied to her and myself. “I just don’t wanna leave paradise to go back to borin’.”

“Well, just enjoy this last night of paradise. Ya have a lot of memories you’re takin’ back.”

“I know. That could be a bad thing, though.”

“Oh, honey. I’m sorry. I wish I had a magic wand to make everythin’ all better, but Harry Potter was already on call somewhere else. He still has my magic wand.”

I left Tania to go and meet up with Corey. I tried to ignore the pangs of depression from settling in at the thought that I was going to lose all this. It wouldn’t do any good to fret about it while I still had one more night. I was going to make this night count. I would leave Corey with a memory that he would never forget.

I drove to the address he gave me. It led to a little beach house not far from the hotel. Parking the car beside his, I got out and walked to the door. I only dressed in a bikini because I figured we weren’t going anywhere tonight. We were staying in and going to just worship each other for as long as we could.

I knocked on the door and within seconds he answered. “Wow, this is your house?”

“No, but I wanted to make our last night together special.”

I walked in. Someone had taken the time to create the perfect décor for a beach house. Everything was decked out like the ocean. From the color scheme to the pictures on the walls, to the Knick-knacks on the shelves. There were paintings of lighthouses, oceanic landscapes, captains on ships, as well as a collage of beautiful sea shells in a net.

Looking around I whistled. “This is like a little piece of heaven.”

He smiled, handing me a beer. “I know. That’s why I like it. Everything about it is perfect.” He winked at me. “Just like you.”

Smiling, I took the beer, laughing at the same time. “Am I gonna get to finish this one? After all, I usually get one or two swallows before ya take it from me.”

“I dunno. You looking sexy like that I might not be able to control myself for long.”

That was all it took for me to chug that beer down to the last drop as he watched me in surprise. I took his and put it on the table and leaned up to kiss him. “No more talkin’. I wanna make love to you all night long.”

He smiled, holding me close, breathing in. “I can definitely handle that.”
