Chapter 26

“Oh Shelly, would you mind calling Max for dinner?”, Cindy turned and looked at me.

No wait no! Is she kidding?

Oh no! I think she is being serious!

“Uhh-mmm—uhh-okay!”, I nodded and walked upstairs, searching for Max’s room. Stupid me! I should have asked Cindy which one is Max’s room but anyway, I don’t think it would be that big of a deal.

And I was right!

Do you know how I recognised it almost immediately?

Just when I reached the last steps up, I noticed a door at the very end of the hallway and it had a poster saying ‘keep out’! Very typical! I knocked on it several times but no one answered.

Why is he taking so long? I wondered and tried to listen for any noise behind the monster’s door. I turned the door knob and you wouldn’t believe it! The door opened! Like really!

Who would have thought that the bad boy can be careless like that?

Someone could easily murder him or steal his things!

But then, who would dare do something to St-Xavier’s bad boy?

I walked in and looked around. Max was nowhere to be found! Where is he!

Yeah, I know! I have walked directly into the dark cave where a certain monster can jump out at any second and kill me right away! Okay, maybe I am exaggerating a little bit. But, if you were in my place right now, you would have been scared as hell!

Why did I even came up here to call him for dinner?

At first, I did not want to come and call him but if this wasn’t about his mom asking me to call him down for dinner, I would not have done it. What can I do? I can’t just say no to his mother, right? Of course not!

Max’s room was big and has light blue walls with a single bed on the right, a white wooden desk and the rest of the room was empty except for the cupboards. The walls appeared freshly painted. There was five boxes which have yet to be unpacked. Other than that, there was two doors leading to the bathroom and the other one, maybe his closet. His room was designed as mine. The only difference is that his is boyish.

And I could very well see my room from here!

I would never have expected Max’s room to be like that!

Well, I expected everything to be dull and dark, considering the fact that Max himself is a long lost monster!

Just then I heard a noise behind me and I wheeled around.

Shit! Shit! Shit!

I froze completely and gulped down. What have I done? What have I gotten myself into?

Max walked out from the bathroom and was only wearing a grey sweat pants that was hanging low at his waist.

He was shirtless and I just couldn’t take my eyes off him!

And he had yet to notice me!

My eyes trailed down to his shirtless torso and back up to his face only to find him smirking at me!

Oh oh! That jerk!

He raised an eyebrow at me and then winked.

“Like what you see, cupcake?”, he asked gallantly while approaching me like a werewolf who has just found a prey to feast on.

And the prey here, ladies and gentlemen, is of course me!

I gave him a pointed look but took a step back at the same time.

He chuckled at my attitude and stupidity.

“What, cupcake?”, he asked and moved forward but I moved back.

I shook my head but I sucked in a deep breath when my back came into contact with the wall behind.

What the hell? Where did that came from? Stupid wall!

“What happened? You lost your voice? Oh no problem! It’s not something new! This always happens when girls see me shirtless”, he said and pecked my left cheek.

Him and his so called attitude!

I snorted and pushed him back.

“I have seen better!”, I recoiled defensively and smiled a little bit too sweetly.

“What do you mean?”, he asked, his voice raising a little bit and his face flared up with anger.

My eyes widened at his sudden change of behaviour and I took a step back but he pulled me toward him with such a force which made me crashed into his chest and we were like flesh to flesh.

My chest kept heaving up and down and I could feel Max’s breathing.

“I asked, what do you mean?”, he asked angrily and squeezed me tightly, pressing my left arm behind my back and made me looked up at him.

Ouch! That hurts! It hurts!

What’s wrong with him? Why is he suddenly behaving like a possessive alpha werewolf? Is he crazy or what?

But instead of yelling at him, I stayed quiet and held on.

He was hurting me! He kept staring back at me and his stare was deadly! Really deadly!

“Max, please! You are hurting me!”, I begged and bit my lower lip and could even taste it. It was like sucking on a penny. Blood tasted like woopery which I realized suddenly, tasted like fear.

Was I afraid of Max?

But I can easily tell that I should never be scared of Max!

I know he would never hurt me.

But I don’t know myself!

Ughhhhh

This is so annoying!

It was only when Max saw my eyes welled up with tears that he released me almost immediately as if he regained his composure.

But he was still trying to control his anger.

“What’s wrong?”, I asked and looked at him, waiting for his reply.

“Nothing!”, he answered and frowned.

“Please Max, I was only kidding!”, I told him which made him looked back at me.

I don’t even know why I felt the need of classifying things with him. It’s just that I don’t like it when he is angry at me!

“Kidding? Never joke around about such things ever again!”, he yelled while waving his hands around and ran his right hand through his hair several times.

“Why? Why are you getting so work up?”, I yelled back at him and grabbed his arms to make him look back at me as he was avoiding my gaze.

He looked at me but then pushed me away.

I stumbled a little bit but didn’t give up!

“Why?”, I questioned him and got in front of him.

He rolled his eyes at me and looked away but he remained calmed.

“Because…”, he trailed off and looked around.

“Because what, Max?”, I yelled again.

“Because you are mine!”, he yelled back.

What?
