Chapter 64

After giving the police officers a long statement about the incident, I swallowed my fear and walked outside. I squeezed my school bag tightly in my arms and followed the officers towards their cars.

“Come on, I'll drop you at home”, one of the sturdy big officers kindly offered while opening the passenger door for me. Judging by his appearance, he was probably in his early twenties. He was the only one who looked like he could have been in college. Now that I think about it, how can a young guy like him be in charged of such a dangerous case? Well, that’s not my business. I mean like just look at his body. If you would look at him from behind, you would easily think that he’s also one of the older fellows but once he would turn around, you would be like gosh, he’s so hot.

What the hell am I thinking?

Max would indeed look hot in a police uniform, though.

More hot than this guy over here.

Almost candy-ish!

Yeah. Wait, what? Does that word even exist? I rolled my eyes in annoyance.

Keep rolling your eyes, you might find a real brain back there!

I shook my head and fisted my hands to avoid myself from slapping my head in front of the officers. I had a bad habit of slapping my head whenever I sounded like an idiot. The last thing that I would want right now is for them to claim that I’m mad.

“Well, I’m waiting.", he cleared his throat awkwardly and raised one eyebrow questioningly at me.

“S-sure”, I forced a smile and with another longing glance back at the abandoned building standing behind me, I got into the car.

I just hope that the guys are fine... that Max is fine.

I lied to the officers and told them that I was alone at school since I went to the washroom when all the after-classes ended, so, all the students left and I was left behind. I’m actually glad that the officers haven’t questioned about Alex and Connor’s cars and also, about Max’s motorcycle which were still stationed in the parking lot.

“Let’s get going.”, he yelled out to his other co-workers after closing the door and ran to get in the driver’s seat.

“Don’t worry, they ran away before we could catch them.”, the officer said softly but from the way his hands were turning ghostly white with clenching the steering wheel, I could tell that he was furious at himself for missing such a golden opportunity again and he was far from being a real softie right now.

Something fell from behind causing me to gasp frighteningly when he suddenly pressed the brake to avoid from hitting a passing cat.

Stupid cat!

I jumped at every little sound that could be heard. Heck, I was still being paranoid. I kept glancing here and there in fear that I’ll hear another vicious round of gunshots being aimed at me. I just want to be back home.

I took a deep breath and tried to calm down.

“I’m just... I don’t know.", I sighed and released my grasp on my bag slowly.

“What’s wrong?“, he glanced at me quickly before looking in front of him.

“I’m scared.”, I voiced out and started playing with the tips of my hair.

“You’ll be okay.”, he threw a sheepish grin my way before rolling the steering wheel to the left and we were soon approaching the street where I live.

“We’ve been behind those men for a long time now.”, he said with a blank expression on his face while keeping his right hand on the steering wheel and adjusting his tie with his left hand.

“They always manage to get the hell away before we could reach them.", he shook his head like he’s giving up but from the way that he appears to be deeply in thought says otherwise. He’s definitely planning something.

“Oh! Before I forget, what about the cars which were still parked in the parking lot? Don’t they belong to some students?“, he asked me while narrowing his eyes at me.

Shit, I was trying to avoid this one. That’s the most dreading question.

What was I supposed to say?

“I-I... oh! That’s my house.”, I sat up straighter and pointed at the white building. I would have never thought that someday I would be so relieved to see my house standing in all its glory in front of me. It’s like I’m taking my last breath and I got to see my oreos before dying.

“That one?“, he asked me after following to where my finger was pointed at.

“Yes.", I almost screeched like a five year old girl.

He looked at me weirdly but did not ask anything bizarre.

Once he’d stopped the car in front of my house, I rushed to unbuckle the seat belt and went to get out but stopped when I heard him again.

“Do you know Max Jackson?“, he questioned while looking at Max’s house in a weird way, almost with a pervert look. What’s with the look?

I grimaced and opened my mouth to tell him that Max was my classmate but stopped when I realized something abstract.

Pervert look? Don’t tell me that he’s gay? No, no, no. That’s so cruel. How could God make such a hot guy turn that way? What if he tries to steal Max from me? Oh no! Like hell I would let him do that. ( A/N: I have nothing against these types of people! I’m actually cool about it. )

“Look, I need your help.”, he suddenly turned around and grabbed my right hand which was frozen on the door handle.

I flinched, not at all liking a stranger’s touch and he pulled back after closing the door and locking it. I was actually thankful that he hasn’t noticed my reaction but I still kept some distance between us by pressing my back up to the closed door, glad that I did not have the seat belt on anymore.

He unbuckled his seat belt too and pulled himself up against his door like I did. We both looked like complete idiots, sitting like that in a car.

“Okay, so, how do you know Max?", he asked again and I was like ‘what the freaking hell was that?’

Is he really a gay or is this about something else.
