The Naked Truth

When she first arrived, she walked right into the precinct wearing nothing but a look of desperation. Her hair was dark and her eyes even darker. She placed her hand on the door and pushed it open. As the door closed, I saw the bloody hand print she left. The blood was all over her. Her arms, legs, face … her entire body looked as if it had been painted in red. Blood was the only thing covering her. She looked like she had been terribly hurt. At least that’s what we thought at the time.

We all saw this naked woman in front of us who appeared helpless. Unfortunately, none of that could have been farther from the truth. What I later found out was that she had already been on quite the adventure before landing at the precinct. The precinct was just her last stop. She was delivering something to us … or rather someone.

As she walked further into the precinct, we saw that she was carrying something. Each step she took, a bloody footprint remained. No one could turn away from her. She stopped a few feet from where we were all working. That’s when I saw who she was dragging with her. He was laying on the floor behind her. He was dead.

Our first reaction was to shoot her or at the very least arrest her. I could see the other officers in the precinct reaching for their weapons. But I couldn’t reach for mine. I don’t know why but I couldn’t. I looked at her and saw a confident smile make its way onto her face. It wasn’t an accident that she walked into the precinct. She wanted everyone to see that she had killed the Chief. She wanted everyone to know what she was capable of. She wanted them to come after her. That was her plan. One by one they ran towards her with their weapons pointed directly at her.

I kept thinking to myself that we were supposed to be the force that protected Originals. We all made an oath to protect life. But not on this day. It was like they all were on one accord and the only thought was to kill her. And then it happened. She didn’t give them a chance to fire at her. I couldn’t even draw my weapon before the blood hit me in my face. It blinded me and I wasn’t able to see what was going on. But I heard the screams.

There was no gunfire. She killed everyone in the precinct that day and not one of them were able to fire a shot. And there I was … the coward who froze. All the training that I had completed meant nothing. I froze. I kept waiting for my inevitable end but it didn’t come. I let go of my holster and wiped the blood away from my eyes. The image in front of me was blurred but I knew it was her. I could feel her breathing. She got closer and I felt her hands across my face clearing my sight.

“Are you going to kill me now?” I asked.

“No. I came for you Brian.”

“You came for me? Why? Who are you?”

“My name is Aura. I am an Original. These people I have killed were Revenants.”

“Revenants? I don’t understand. What the hell is going on?”

“You think this world is just a hunt for those who commit life-crimes and abuse the Zeta Alpha leak but you’re wrong. There is a bigger threat to us all now. You are the only one who can help me find and kill the person responsible for it.”

I knew she was telling me the truth. I knew that she had seen something and it was bigger than even the life-crimes. I needed to know why she felt this was the only way.

“You have to come with me Brian. We need to take back our world. Will you help me?”
