The Sound of Texting

PLEASE READ by Jeremy Isaac-29th November 2050

What I have discovered may be CENSORED. Read quickly and take this all in. What I am about to tell you could change everyone on Earth lives forever. I left the DVD about 1984 in by accident. I was fast asleep when all of a sudden, there was this wave of noise. The DVD player had finally started working and the DVD was playing. I turned the volume down to ensure no one in the flat next door heard. Some ads for some other films had come up and now it was on the Menu.

PLAY SCENE SELECTION SUBTITLES LANGUAGES

I selected PLAY and the film started; opening logos come on (none that I recognise) but the screen’s a bit static and it’s constantly breaking up. Too much damage to the disc had broken it, but I could still make it out a bit. Then I noticed something. There were no subtitles! None at all. No phones to text either. And that’s when I heard it. A voice. It was like my own. Then another. Another voice. I was so confused. The people on the screen were moving their mouths and every time they did, there were voices:

“What are your feelings towards Big Brother?”

“I hate him.”

“You must love him. It is not enough to obey him. You must love him.”

How are they doing that? Is this what came before the TEXT. Was there a time when people could hear each other? Before I can query any more the screen turns black and the sound crackles up and the greatest revelation in my life is gone. Possibly forever.
