Chapter 16

The Creator pressed a button, and the screens in front of Ten finally shut off. Once the image was gone, it revealed Ten.

She was staring blankly in front of her as tears came out of her eyes. The rest of her face was emotionless.

"Ten?" The Creator asked as he moved the monitors away from her. Her eyes slowly moved and looked at him. He sat down partly on the chair that she was in.

"What did we learn?" Ten opened her mouth, but her lip only quivered. Sighing, the Creator pulled up something on his watch and within the next second, Ten's screams filled the air.

After a few seconds, the Creator removed his fingers and looked at Ten again.

"What did we learn?" Ten's breathing was heavy.

"I l-learned." Deep breath. "I-" inhale. "I-" exhale. "Wait, no, no- AAAHHH!" More tears forced their way out of her eyes and she pulled against the restraints in vain.

The pain finally subsided and the Creator stared at her.

"What did we learn?" He was beginning to lose his patience.

"You are the kindest Creator!" Ten finally managed to choke out.

"Y-you don't hurt me like the others. I'm designed electronically, so you don't have to cut me open to fix me!"

"Do I hurt you ever?"

"No, it's not you. It's never you!" He gently smiled at her and reached out his hand, tucking her hair behind her ear.

"Stop crying," he said in a soft voice. "It's ok. You're safe." Ten nodded her head and tried her best to calm down. "I'm here," the Creator mumbled. Ten nodded her head again. "Let's get these restraints off you," he said as he stood up and walked to the desk.

After pressing a few buttons, the restraints opened around Ten, and she could finally move again.

Raising her hands off of the arms of the chair, they shook and trembled. Without the restraint around her head, it fell to the side. Before she could fall sideways, hands grabbed her shoulders and pulled her upright. He placed her head, agaisnt his chest and held her close.

The Creator sat still for a few seconds as he felt Ten shaking against him.

"I think you should rest," the Creator mumbled. Ten nodded her head before she was picked up. Her eyes closed and she became limp in his arms. She was so tired, so exhausted, so numb that just the thought of staying awake gave her a headache.

". . . Just go to sleep . . . ." The Creator's voice echoed in her head and she did just that.

Ten's eyes twitched as she felt a weird sensation in her arm. Her eyes slowly opened and she looked down at her arm. Wires were connected to various veins in her arm and a screen was being projected off of the Designer's watch. The Creator was standing next to the Designer, watching the screen.

After a few seconds, the Creator's eyes looked over to Ten.

"Stay still, Ten," he said, "we are just checking a few things."

Ten nodded and laid back down. A slight pain entered into her arm, and it naturally twitched. The pain traveled up her arm, into the veins in her neck, before it finally came into her head.

She shut her eyes in pain as she felt the technology roaming around in her brain, searching and grabbing things.

"We are just making sure that you're ok to compete with Model Eleven," the Creator said.

Something grabbed at her mind more and she winced and twitched in pain. Her hands strained and shuddered, and her eyes opened.

"Breathe," the Creator said. It was only then that Ten realized she was holding her breath. She released a gasp of air as her head tilted back and her neck and chest came up.

Ten didn't know why, but she didn't fully believe that they were doing a systems update. This was different. Before she could compose thoughts more, she inhaled deeply and winced more in pain.

Her eyes rolled into the back of her head as the only sound was her ragged breaths. Her hands clenched into fists as the computer continued to search through her mind, pulling and pushing things around, altering her brain once more.

"Ten!" A stern voice rang through her head. Her eyes opened and she looked to the side to see the Creator and Designer standing next to he bed.

"Yessir," Ten mumbled.

"We are done. You did an excellent job and I'm proud of you.

"Thank you, Sir."

"I know I'm asking a lot of you, but would you be up for a . . . update."

"Yes, Sir." He smiled faintly.

"Sit up." Ten painfully did as she was told. The Creator's hand grabbed the back of her neck and pulled her to her feet. Without giving her enough time to compose herself, he pushed her forward and they walked out of the room. Ten felt like the only reason she hadn't fallen was due to the Creator's hand holding her neck.

To Ten's surprise, he led her outside to a familiar section. She felt as though she had seen it before from possibly one of the videos, but her brain was so fragmented that she couldn't be sure. Looking over to a stream, she saw a few guards standing near it.

They walked to the guards and Ten was shoved into them. Before she could comprehend what was happening, the guards grabbed her and slammed her into the water.

Ten's hands grabbed their arms, but before she could fight back, the images that she had seen while showering in the Deadlands forced its way into her head and she became immobile.

"She can survive being drowned, hold her down for five-minute increments," the Creator said as he watched Ten weakly struggling against the guards.

No matter what it took, he would get Ten back to the way she was. She was going to be his Model once more.
