I stood on the stoop, dumbfounded. He grabbed my hand and pulled me inside.
"Ivy, how did you find me?" His eyes were wide and worried. He glanced at the door, eyes hardening.
"Sage, I-I" I stuttered. I couldn't find words. I had to many thoughts spinning in my head. He placed his hands on my face firmly.
"Are you okay? Are you in danger?" His green eyes softened as he looked at me. His hands wandered they're way to my arms. I shivered as his fingertips glided over my neck.
"I-I'm fine. I didn't know you lived here." I could barely get the words out.
"How'd you find me?" His grip on me relaxed.
"I was told to come here," I said. "Are you Sage?"
"Told to come by whom?" He said, glancing up at the door. His green eyes connected with mine once more. Light danced across his face.
"A friend. Mrs. Myers. She said you could help me." He grabbed my wrist gravely, studying my watch.
"Oh no. Not you," He looked crestfallen.
"Sage." I spoke so softly I was surprised when he looked up. He nodded as he wrapped me in his arms. He kissed the top of my head. I looked up into his deep eyes.
"I can fix this, but you'll have to trust me," He choked. I nodded. I placed my hands delicately on his firm chest. I could feel the rapid beat in his chest. Our breaths were shaky, intermingling in the small space between our faces. A few freckles dusted the bridge of his nose. I lifted myself onto my toes as our lips connected. My eyes fluttered shut. His soft lips sent bursts of energy through my body as his arms wrapped almost desperately around my thin frame. I snaked my arms around his neck. I slowly melted into him as he smell of soap and cologne engulfed me. I let out a soft sigh as he touched a small patch of exposed skin where my t-shirt had shifted. He broke the kiss, smirking.
"Sage-" I started. He placed his hands on my waist, silencing me. He kissed my forehead again.
"I'll get you out of this, okay? I'm gonna keep you safe."
